Yeah, I'm not buying how they claim to back each coin w/ 1 MWh of solar energy produced. Plus 5% premine of 500 million coins.

I am a volunteer spokesperson for SolarCoin. If you have questions feel free to ask. I helped design the marginal utility carbon footprint model.

Here are the technical details:  https://github.com/solarcoin/solarcoin

the energy aspects are on the site: www.solarcoin.org

The large pre-mine is non-circulating and is intended as a solar energy incentive for the next 40 years. Explained on the site.

The reserve will be given to Solar energy producers based on presentation of SREC (solar renewable energy certificates) and verified feed in tarriff tracking mechanisms.

mac client is under-development.

OCA governance and charter are under development.  This is a 40 year project with a large macro goal. The team believes each SLR should ideally stabilize to $20-30 to effectively incent solar energy generation.  The team is looking for technical macro-economists to help determine optimal marginal rates for long term incentives.  The OCA mandate is: Maximize global solar energy generation over the next 40 years.

http://solarcoin.org/solarcoin-oca-accounting-transparency/
The OCA and SolarCoin resource Transparency

The OCA (Open Currency Association), which created SolarCoin, is releasing the addresses for the reserve SolarCoin accounts.  The OCA created 98 billion SolarCoin to represent the expected Solar energy generation over the next 40 years. These coins are currently held in non-circulating reserve accounts.

These currently non-circulating reserves are held in two pools. One pool comprises 97.5 billion SolarCoins and is known as the Generator Pool. The Generator Pool is awarded globally on a 1:1 basis to generators of solar energy who submit a verified proof of solar energy generation such as an SREC (solar renewable energy certificate). A second pool of 0.5 billion SolarCoins exists in a reserve known as the Genesis Pool. The Genesis Pool is used to support the SolarCoin infrastructure and reward members of renewable energy related charities, solar energy projects and early volunteers.  The Genesis pool circulation or spend is restricted by the OCA to never be greater than 5% of all circulated SolarCoins.

The OCA is organizing its initial charter and members. Until the charter is in place and the OCA is operational, no SolarCoins will be distributed from the Genesis or Generator pools.  As a fully transparent organization the OCA will describe the SolarCoins transactions.

The accounts holding the 98 billion SolarCoins can be found in the publicly available SolarCoin BlockChain. The BlockChain ledger is maintained by the SolarCoin network of miners and wallet holders.  For logistics sake the reserve accounts have been managed into sub-accounts.  These transfers involved minor transaction fees paid to the network in an amount less than 10 SLR in aggregate.

The accounts are listed below:

8HXLLWUaKg4T5NBWiFeUVtdNDxfv1D2S6i
8YVEmgenUoQi1hCAUdvAtrV2vSEeyi37Xp

All accounts are encrypted and stored in secure facilities offsite using offline cold wallets. Access requires multiple individuals and 3rd party verifications. Various operational and technical security protocols are in place to insure that no single individual process or person may access the accounts.

For security reasons, information describing the full operational and security protocols is restricted.  The accounts and any transactions into or out of them are public record.

We encourage the community to build or create a SolarCoin blockchain explorer to aid in this transparency and the SolarCoin mission of maximizing global solar energy production over the next 40 years.

Still no official thread here for it?

I saw this come across Coindesk last night, nice article! http://www.coindesk.com/solarcoin-awards-coins-solar-power-generation/

Anyway, I got excited about the idea of this and started to solo mine on my laptop last night, just through wallet mining, and found a block! LOL I'm the proud owner of 100 solarcoins this morning. :)

I was looking at the source code, thinking of creating a pool:

line 834 of main.cpp:

int64 static GetBlockValue(int nHeight, int64 nFees)
{
    int64 nSubsidy = 100 * COIN;
   if(nHeight < 99) {nSubsidy = 1000000000 * COIN;}        <--------------- premined !!!!!!!!!!!
   nSubsidy >>= (nHeight / 525600);
    return nSubsidy + nFees;
}

static const int64 nTargetTimespan_Version1 = 24 * 60 * 60; // SolarCoin: 24 Hours
static const int64 nTargetSpacing = 60 ; // SolarCoin: 1 Minute Blocks
static const int64 nInterval_Version1 = nTargetTimespan_Version1 / nTargetSpacing; // SolarCoin: 1440 bloc

looks like the first 99 blocks were premined @ 1000000000 coins each block !

that's 99,000,000,000  premined coins!!!!!!

block reward for miners is only 100 coins.

   ARE THE DEVELOPERS PAYING OFF PROMOTERS WITH PREMINE TO HYPE THIS COIN ??????

wtf?????

Is this another scam coin / pump-n-dump ???????

wow ---- people need to see this!

The supply of SLR is fully documented and comprised of the following:

The Mining Pool: 105 Million SolarCoins (0.1%) to be publicly mined over the next 40 years. All publicly mined SolarCoins represent historically generated and unclaimed solar electricity.
The Generator Pool: 97.5 Billion SolarCoins (99.4%) are currently stored in the OCA non-circulating generation pool account. These will be exchanged for “proof of work” claims of solar electricity generation submitted over the next 40 years at the rate of 1 SLR per MWh of solar energy.
The Genesis Pool: 500 Million SolarCoins (0.5%) are stored in the genesis pool account for environmental charities, early volunteers, advisers, builders and maintainers of SolarCoin infrastructure. Genesis pool circulation is capped so that it will never represent more than 5% of total SolarCoin in circulation.

The OCA is currently organizing its initial charter and members; anyone can join and participate.

This guy is posting the same thing in different areas without actually doing any research. Can we stop this person?

Please make sure not to give money to people who are using hydroelectric power when the generation happens in a way that destroys the habitat of the native species.

This would apply to the terrible things that happened to the Mekong river and anything similar. A lot of people suffer because of such harmful destruction of natural habitat. Please look into this.

On the other end it may be good to provide a smaller yet significant incentive to people who wish to make sustainable Nuclear power.

The nuclear reactors that we are capable of making today are very safe and good for the environment.

I look forward to SLR being listed on exchanges. There's tons of alts out there but none that aim to address climate change and sustainable energy. There's no areas on the planet that are more important today and it's great to see an innovation like SLR that tries to address the issues.
