Title: What's after Scrypt?
Post by: m4ti on January 11, 2014, 01:41:45 PM
What happens, when the Scrypt algorhythm is "destroyed" by the new ASICs (from the sight of GPU miners)?

Is a next algo only for CPU/GPU planned, which will then be used for the most coins? I heard, that the algo from Quark, Protoshares etc. is now compatible with GPUs. Will the next coins use this algorhythm for mining, or another?

The reason is: I'm thinking about buying an HD 7950, but when the ASICs for Scrypt are available, the card could become "worthless" for mining.

If this is going to happen, I keep my silent HD 7850 and use it for mining Scrypt, as long as possible/senseful.

Thanks in advance, I hope you can answer my questions ;)

I myself believe that every coin would eventually be able to mine using "ASICs", look at litecoin difficulty.

Yes, but that takes some time ...

I believe, that new algos will be released every time, an algo is cracked and then can be mined with ASICs. But I don't know much about this topic.

It's important for me, that I can use the new graphics card for getting more money than I make with my HD 7850 at this time (~100€ per month). I don't care, if the algorhythms name is Scrypt, SHA-256 or anything else ...
But, when I mine Scrypt with a GPU, when everyone buys/has ASICs, I can't get even a half-decent amount of BTC/money - that's the problem.
