Title: Need help with my Sapphire 280x Toxic
Post by: delphs on January 11, 2014, 07:40:39 PM
I installed the Toxic with Catalyst 13.11 beta and the SDK 2.9. It's a fresh install of Windows 8.1

I tried 50+ settings, overclock, underclock, under volt,  both cgminer and bfgminer... No matter what settings I use the temperature climb in the 90s!!

was doing 785kh/s at 95C change settings and got 535kh/s running as 92C, 480kh/s running at 93C.

There's something I'm obviously doing wrong lol

Anybody with a fresh idea?

I had a 280x that I had to RMA because it would constantly overheat if I tried to run it at the same settings as my other ones.  My guess is that with the rush to produce as many as possible, a few bad ones are going to slip through the cracks.

It's most likely that the heat transfer pad/thermal paste aren't doing their jobs and the chip is still overheating.

You could try undervolting it...

You've got a few options.

1) Ramp up those fans as high as they will go. 90-100%
2) Undervolt. VBE7 is your friend, and works wonderfully on those 280x BIOSs.
3) Take the cooler off and repaste it. This does NOT void your warranty, and guarantees it's not a physical problem. Verify that the fan spins freely. Some technical know-how required for this.
4) Make sure you've got plenty of airflow to the card. If it's in a case, try running it with the side of the case off.
5) Last resort, is to RMA it. It might be a dud card, but I doubt it.

it was airflow issue with my case... after taking it out and let me mobo run on outside the case I was able to get a nice 740kh/s running at a cool 73C.

Thank you all for your suggestions!
