QUICK START

  • Run a wallet
Download a binary wallet and start frozen-qt. That's all!

  • Get some coins
Check from time to time if you find an open giveaway opportunity (see below).
Check the conditions of the thread-starter (if any) and hope that the donor is as fast as Frozen! :)

  • Additional nodes *NEW*
You should not need to bother about additional nodes in your Frozen configuration "frozen.conf"
at all, but to be prepared for possible bad-luck-situations find here some entries. If you ever have
constant problems to synchronize the block chain, please stop your Frozen-client, delete your
peer.dat, add the lines below to your frozen.conf and restart your client. Here the additional nodes:
    # Sponsored by BitcoinFX (FZ: FNgbr3u4Xew9LfATmk4FxuC63NvNMogY34):
    addnode=46.19.143.137
    addnode=46.19.143.141
    addnode=46.19.139.232

    GIVEAWAYS

Frozen is not premined, therefore there is no premine "giveaway pool".
In the past some community members were giving away their own FZ (mined our bought) in giveaway threads.
Some threads aren't closed but the donor fails to payout. Please make a note in the thread and let me know.
To make the life of the donors easier it would be helpful if you edit your post (like: "Received, thanks!") if you got your FZs.

Giveaway threads and faucets (open + alive):
    • Frozen Giveaway (join frozentalk.org) (http://www.frozentalk.org/showthread.php?tid=79)

    • Frozen is a coin originally based on the hashing concept of the QUARK coin
    • The total number of Frozen coins (FZ) is much lower in comparison: only 7,777,777 FZ. This is about 1/32th of QRK!!
    • (It is still under discussion to add an inflation, like e.g. 1% per year)
    • The coin is very good suited to be mined with CPUs. At the current difficulty > 2000 you will probably have best results with a pool
    • As of this writing there are about 97,000 blocks mined, making a volume of about 4,340,000 FZ (about 55.8% of the total coin supply)
    • The block reward is quickly dropping until it vanishes. If you want to mine FZ: a sooner, a better

    CORE SPECIFICATIONS

    • FAST BLOCK GENERATION
by average one block each 30 seconds

    • MULTIPLE-STEP HASHING
the hashes are generated with a random hashing sequence,
      relying on 6 hashing functions

    • LIMITED COIN SUPPLY
There will be no more than 7,777,777 FZ available at all! (*)

    • (*) INFLATION
to be decided, currently not foreseen.
There may be an inflation of about 1% per year after block 1,691,867.
The community will vote about the inflation in time.

    • DECREASING BLOCK REWARD
The mining subsidy is quickly declining and will drop to zero at block 1,691,868.
      Miners get the transaction fees.

    • PORTS
      P2P-Port: 18451, default RPC port: 18450

    BLOCK REWARD (SUBSIDY)

Since block 77,778 the block reward is decreasing each 120 blocks (about each hour).
The last block to contain a block reward will be block 1,691,867, afterwards mining
will live from the transaction fees.  The community might vote to introduce an
inflation for the time after.  The amount discussed at the moment would relate to a
minimum block reward of 0,075 FZ, which yields about 1% inflation measured against
    the maximum of 7,777,777 coins.

Find below a table and a graph showing the development of the block reward.
Please note that "Days since launch" is an estimation, based on an average of
    one block per 30 seconds.

Block           Reward (FZ) Days since launch(*) Comment
1                      1000               0                           Block 1 with bigger reward for the original Dev. Not clear, what these coins were used for.
    2 .. 77,777            50.0               0 .. 27                     From block 2 on the reward was 50 FZ
    77,778 .. 167,057      25.0 .. 10.0       27 .. 58                    Block reward drops each 120 blocks. Until block 167,057 it declines from 25 FZ to 10 FZ.
    167,058 .. 253,457     10 .. 5.0     58 .. 87                    Block reward drops stepwise from 10 FZ to 5 FZ
    253,458 .. 604,817     5 .. 1.80   87 .. 210                   Block reward drops stepwise from 5 FZ to 1.80 FZ
    604,818 .. 1,048,497   1.80 .. 0.075 210 .. 364                  Block reward drops stepwise from 1.8 FZ to 0.075 FZ
    1,048,498 .. 1,691,866 0.075           364 .. 560                  About 650,000 blocks with a constant payout of 0,075 FZ
1,691,867              0.10900           560                         The last block with a reward yields 0,1090 FZ. Total amount issued: 7,777,777 FZ
1,691,868 .. infinity  0.0               560 .. infinity             From block 1,691,868 on the block reward is zero

(*) Estimated, based on an average of 30 seconds per block.

    https://i.imgur.com/QTF8Te6.jpg

MORE SPECIFICATIONS (may be adapted in future)
    • BLOCK MATURITY: A mined block matures after 260 blocks (at the most)

    https://i.imgur.com/NnxbNNB.png

Frozen can be mined with the same miners as Quark.

    CPU-Mining:

    • Quarkcoin-CPU-Miner from Neisklar: https://github.com/Neisklar/quarkcoin-cpuminer

Code:
minerd -a quark -o http://your-frozen-qt-ip:rcpport/ -u rpcusername -p rpcpassword --no-stratum --no-longpoll

GPU-Mining:

There is to my knowledge no GPU miner for Frozen available, at the moment!

There is a closed source software named "Smelter" ( https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=310975.0 ) which is originally
designed for Quark. Besides from some drawbacks (12.5% fee for each block, limited GPU support, no pool mining support)
the main problem seems to be, that it does not generate valid blocks for Frozen.

Sample frozen.conf:

If you want to run the frozend-daemon which gives access to RPC commands you should install a frozen.conf file.
Make sure the file is not world-readable - your frozen installation needs only reading access.
A basic frozen.conf could look like this:
Code:
rpcuser=frozenrpc
rpcpassword=replaceThisWithALongPasswordWithSomeDigits

Some further advanced options for frozen.conf:
  • Machines with little network bandwidth may prefer to reduce the number of maximum connections, e.g.: maxconnections=20
  • If you're running a daemon please restrict the RPC network access to the minimum you need. Use a star "*" as a wildcard. For a local-only installation this might be: rpcallowip=127.0.0.1

HISTORY

The coin Frozen was originally started by Block_Erupter, his original announcement (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=366762.0)  is from December 11, 2013, 06:48:27 AM.
In parallel he was engaging in a different project named "Shares", in which he admittedly tried to steal the
investors money. He refunded the  biggest part now, it stays to hope that the remaining investors are refunded
very soon as well. Block_Erupter is no longer part of the Frozen Community.

The Frozen community took over the progress of this great coin.
Frozen was a fair coin from the beginning on, and the continuation and support of the coin is made certain.
You are very welcome to join as a user or as contributor!

The Frozen Snowflake was created by the user Tonza from bitcointalk.org. It was the winning submission in a logo contest.

Frozen News Digests: #2 (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=411291.msg4626662#msg4626662), #1 (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=411291.msg4531778#msg4531778)

HOW YOU CAN CONTRIBUTE

We are glad about all kind of support, input and help!
If you have ideas the best way is to discuss them first on FrozenTalk.org to make sure you are in sync with everybody else.
Contributions can come from all kind of areas are highly welcome! For your inspiration:
  • Advertisement and Design: spread the word of Frozen, improve the appearance of the wallet, ...
  • Coin exchanges: help to make Frozen a choice at the coin exchanges
  • Ideas for new features, discussion of bugs and missing functionalities
  • If you want to improve the sources directly please make a fork on github and send a pull request. The devs (currently only me) will evaluate and include it.
  • For the techniques of github forks refer to the documentation at: https://help.github.com/articles/fork-a-repo (https://help.github.com/articles/fork-a-repo)
  • Finally, a very good place for donations is the Donation Pool (http://www.frozentalk.org/showthread.php?tid=12) of TheFourSaint's: FKEt7AJGPBgjiq3SsXKxEihTjVWn69Bxyz
To be mentioned as donor please post in the thread / PM TheFourthSaint. If you prefer to stay anonymous simply send some coins.
PS:

Please use this thread as a the new official Frozen information thread.
Though I've been writing carefully I'm sure I missed something and I'm sure I made errors here or there.
Please keep me informed about errors, new developments and so on!

Nice to see that the community is still standing behind this project and that a coin doesn't have to die when the original dev is getting more and more shady.

There should be a good future for this coin with this community

Glad to see things are going okay now -- not sure how Block_Erupter didn't see the scam warnings on the SHARES stuff, and I said as much on the old FrozenCoin.org forums. Word to the wise: never advertise for a company or make posts for a company when you don't know the devs and don't have control of the donation wallet; it will end badly 99.9% of the time!

If anyone is looking to buy a large number of Frozen at a reasonable price without going through CoinedUp, feel free to PM me. Right now, I'm taking a "wait and see" approach though. FZ bombed for a bit, but it's recovering nicely now.

I think we will add another stratum-pool.

Updates of the main article:
  • Fixed: maturity is after 260 blocks at the most (article stated before 240. Thanks MarsuIV!)
  • Added Benezivas giveaway-Thread (thanks Benezivas! I fueled your giveaway account with 100 Fz)
  • Added the backup of the PaperWallet site under Service/Other (thanks KoningKaas!)

News:
1. fz.coinmine.pl had some problems with the frontend for a day or so, this is now fixed (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=411850.0). FYI, the mining shares were not lost, only the payout was delayed until the fix,
2. The networkhashps is back in the area close to alltime high, resulting in a high difficulty around 3000 (current networkhashps: 1685559264)

Way to go! :)

Hey all,

please don't miss the - 500 FZ Frozen Poetry Contest - https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=412571.0

Wanted: Frozen-Haikus

A Haiku is somewhat simplified a little poem consisting of three lines with 17 syllables alltogether (5 + 7 + 5). Example and Wikipedia-Link in the posting. I've added the contest in the Giveaway section of the Info-Post.

Have fun and enjoy!

Trenton :)

I think we will add another stratum-pool.

I have tried both Frozen.conf and frozen.conf with the following settings

rpcuser=name
rpcpassword=pass

1. Please stop your client
2. Please remove the file "peers.dat"
3. If you are only running frozen-qt the frozen.conf is not necessary: please delete frozen.conf
4. If you are running frozend please remove all addnode= entries from your frozen.conf
5. Make sure you are using the latest release v1.1.0.7

Please let me know if it helps and don't hesitate for further questions :)

I find all of this deathly interesting.
I helped the original "dev" (if that is what we can call him) with his website problems. I was given full access to the cPanel and recreated the forum site and did some minor database work. I actually still have a copy of the original database (not that it contains anything). I found it odd at the time how a self-professed programmer could have little or no php experience at all. In fact I find it hard to believe any programmer would admit to not knowing php or being able to pick it up very quickly. I spoke with him many times over the message system and came to some conclusions about him and Fz in general. I left myself as an admin on the forums but quickly lost interest when I realized that he had neither the experience nor the knowledge to move Fz forward.

I would like to issue a word of caution. Trenton it might be wise to echo this sentiment so as not to garnish any negative publicity for the Fz community:

All though he may have committed fraud (and it seems likely), posting identifiable information on the public internet is also highly illegal and might introduce the possibility of having his or any case against him thrown out in court. You can't break the law to uphold the law. Especially if in fact he is a minor. If you have certain information, you need to bring it to the authorities or to your respective lawyers, not publicly brandish it on some forums like a child.

Hey tangle,

with the current coin specifications the last block with a block reward will be block 1,913,379. This block will be mined in a bit less than 2 years, the total number of coins issued is then 7,777,777 (a bit less than 8 million coins). Every block from block 1,913,380 on has no more block reward. Miners will still get the transaction fees, of course.

The idea about the inflation is to guarantee a minimum block reward also for the blocks from 1,913,380 on. In discussion is an amount of 0.075 FZ per block, which sums up to 78,840 FZ per year (365*24*60*2*0.075 FZ). These 78,840 coins are about 1.01% of 7,777,777. So in effect the total amount of coins would grow each year by about 1.01% (measured against the 7,777,777). In frozentalk.org has a discussion about the inflation started. Hope this clarifies the situation a bit...

@TheMightyX: on the one hand I kind of agree, that it is futile to announce things, which not necessarily come true. On the other hand I think it is fair for users / investors to see, that there may be a small change in the coin specifications...

Many greetings

trenton

Hey all,

Find below a snapshot of the BTC markets at CoinedUp, ordered by the price per coin.

I think FZ is doing remarkably well - going along with QRK and closer to the block of the established altcoins beginning with FTC (Feathercoin) than to those well hyped newcomers like EAC (Earthcoin). Among the newcomers only CAT comes with a remarkably better price per coin, but with a very low trade volume compared to FZ.

My impression is that the coins with a total issue in the billions have it difficult to stay in the BTC markets. And by dropping into LTC trade they may lose even more visibility and value.

Frozen keeps rocking! :)

Some advice from another thread (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=412280.msg4507992#msg4507992): be careful with stone wallets:

(a typical stone wallet as used by dinosaurs for cold storage, alas it offered no protection once the private keys were compromised)

PS: in case you haven't noticed, it's satire ;-)

I updated the section about GPU mining:

as far as I understand "Smelter" is since the mandatory update of Frozen v1.1.0.x incompatible with Frozen:
It generates blocks with a wrong block reward, all mined blocks are rejected.

I have Smelter not available, so in case this information is wrong I'd ask you to let me know.

Thanks in advance

Dear all,

fyi, since the last big change to 25 FZ / block the block reward of Frozen has reached now 20.0 FZ / block. The rapid decline continues each 120 blocks, the next decrease is at block 107658: giving a block reward 19.97984 FZ.

If you want to mine Frozen I'd advise to start better sooner than later.

Good luck!

I think much more can be done to the site to make it cleaner and professional looking.

What do you think needs to be done?  I think it's one of the most organized coin sites I've seen.

I don't think it is aesthetically pleasing. There are a lot of color clashes especially with the winter8.jpeg(Mountain pic)
FAST.SECURE.RARE is blurry
The text on white blocks doesn't look good to me.
The top bar div which contains - home - getting started - etc can be made to float when the user scrolls.

Imagine being someone that is new to cryptocurrency. Will the website suggest that it is maintained by dedicated people that believe in a cause?
I appreciate the effort so far and its not my intention to put down someone's work.

Couple of good points... I guess I should stop looking at it like a "fan" and more like a visitor.

Frozen digest #1

Changes of the initial post:
  • Added the Poll for cryptokopen.eu (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=417125.60) in the Calls for contribution
  • Added fzcoin.cc (http://www.fzcoin.cc/) as new main site of Frozen
  • Updated section about GPU-mining. Smelter seems *not* to work for Frozen (it generates bad blocks: too high rewards)
  • Updated history with the recent events about Shares (BE refunding investors)
  • Updated block reward section after recalculation: coin rewards last a bit longer than previously stated. Last block is 1,923,765 (previously: 1,913,379)

Other news:
  • Filled in a request form of coinmarketcap.com to add Frozen (philipvdlinde points out to the coinmarketcap.com thread (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=199685.1280))
  • Frozen is listed since a while at the Chinese site btc38.com (http://www.btc38.com/altcoin/fz/)
  • The giveaway thread (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=412125.0) is about to be closed, the Haiku contest (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=412571) lasts until end of January and got some cool submissions.
  • I plan to continue these digests from time to time and thought it's a good idea to give them a count. This one is not the first, but the first counted :)

More recent digests:
  • #2 (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=411291.msg4626662#msg4626662)

I have now closed the giveaway thread (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=412125.0). Please have a read through the reason (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=412125.msg4536126#msg4536126) behind it. If there is some kind of a community-wallet, I'd be willing to transfer the remaining coins onto it. Otherwise, I'd re-donate the reward into the haiku contest.

I hope everyone was able to get their coins, I, for one, got a bigger ignorelist out of it.

what makes this panic buying??

There will be a number of swings up and down till the price settles, seeing them already I guess...

In general: the total coin supply of QRK is about 32 times higher, that's why I guess that Frozen's price will sooner or later settle at about 10-20 times the price of Quark - or higher :)

He stole a load of money from IPO investors, then got scared when everyone threatened him, so paid them all back.  Still not the person to run a nice, fair, community driven coin.

No, he is not back and my personal opinion is that he should have no more active role in Frozen at all.

If the Frozen Community would accept him back be assured to find a big announcement.

Don't know, juniorjill.

I think he is slowly getting back on the right track and is starting to earn some trust again by refunding all the duped people. I also think that everybody should get a second chance if making up with his victims and being ruefully.

But: this second chance is not involving Frozen, he is no longer welcome in the community. He should start something anew and be honest with the people from the beginning on.

Many greetings

trenton

While I usually agree with you, he did attempt to steal over $40,000 worth of bitcoin. He deserves to be driven away from the community and not allowed to participate in moving and progressing the coin.

This is not something the community will forget. His reputation is that he scams people. If you troll his B_E and Lecture account, you can see he has been trying to scam people for a long time on bitcointalk.org

My word: He is no longer part of the coin he started. I know I am but one person working on this coin, but I feel like I can speak for us as a whole on this matter.

Cory informs on frozentalk.org that FZ has been added to the Chinese altcoin trading site GuoGao.com. So far I see the site is supporting besides FZ currently: ALF, BIL, FUC, LOT, MOL, PRT, TCN, UNC and VEL.

I don't know the reputation of the site. If you have information about it and / or have traded successfully on the site please let me know. The listing of FZ finds here:

Well, it was running for 2 weeks. I restarted it today and got problems with connection. Now it's not connecting at all

Is it ok now? The reason was probably the typical scenario: peers.dat collects a number of peers which are getting invalid after a while. When restarting the client is working through this list, each one with a certain timeout. So it simply takes some time until good ones are found. After having stopped your client you could delete peers.dat in order to speed up the next boot. Disadvantage: the good peers among the list are gone then. Btw, if you ever run into the situation that your client seems stuck a simple restart usually helps (basically for the same reason as just mentioned).

@all, I've been sponsoring today a new permanent seed node to further improve the initial sync.

Many greetings

trenton

PS: most or all of the addnode entries from the "historical" postings probably don't work any longer and cause startup delays. I suggest to remove these addnodes completely from your frozen.conf.

what is the fix for the 'transaction too large' issue?

Title: Re: [FZ] Frozen | NoPremine | Rare | Fast Transactions | COMMUNITY TAKEOVER
Post by: trenton81 on January 17, 2014, 06:48:32 PM
what is the fix for the 'transaction too large' issue?

The problem is that the byte size of these transactions is indeed too large because they consist of too many small inputs. These transactions > 100 kByte cannot (and should not) be processed as it would create other problems (slower network, increased possibilities to attack the network).

The current workaround is to send yourself smaller amounts, until the "fragmentation" is done. Recipe: create an address "big" and transfer all Fz from other addresses to the "big" one.
1. create an address "big" in your wallet
2. Open the console window ("Help" -> "Debug Window")
3. Unlock your wallet for e.g. 120 seconds by entering: "walletpassphrase <passphrase> 120" (substitute with your passphrase)
4. For each of your addresses run as long until you get an "insufficient funds": "sendfrom <fromaccount> <tofrozenaddress> <amount>" (fromaccount: the account name or "" for the standard account, <tofrozenaddress> the address of your freshly generated "big" account, <amount> something like 200). If you reach "insufficient funds" make a transaction with the remaining amount so that <fromaccount> is more or less at zero in the end). Note: you can use "cursor-up" in the console window to simplify your life. Note 2: an account inside a wallet can get into the minus.
5. In the end your complete Frozens should be in your account "big". You should be able to send quite large transactions again.

For your info:
- the problem affects only miners (working with very little payouts) or services (receiving many little amounts). Normal users should not be affected at all.
- transactions like "1000 Fz" may sound not really big today. But compared to the total number of coins it is in fact quite a big share.

Hope it helps a bit.

Many greetings

trenton

Why would he say you want him back on the team?
Don't know, juniorjill.

I think he is slowly getting back on the right track and is starting to earn some trust again by refunding all the duped people. I also think that everybody should get a second chance if making up with his victims and being ruefully. But this second chance is not involving Frozen.

Agreed 100%.

@Trenton: I'm going to be frank and say that I'm not buying his story at all. I think his only regret is that he got caught. His history of wanting to take people for their money repeatedly makes him untrustworthy and a liability in general. Quite honestly, his presence -even behind the scenes- is toxic and unwanted.

TFS is right on the money: the coin now belongs to us (the community) and BE can try to scam another group somewhere else.

News:

Cory informs on frozentalk.org that FZ has been added to the Chinese altcoin trading site GuoGao.com. So far I see the site is supporting besides FZ currently: ALF, BIL, FUC, LOT, MOL, PRT, TCN, UNC and VEL.

I don't know the reputation of the site. If you have information about it and / or have traded successfully on the site please let me know. The listing of FZ finds here:

http://www.guogao.com/trade/FZ/

Many greetings

Got 3500 FZ stuck with guogao. Missing. Other transactions with FX from them were fine today. Been a few hours.
Any English support or anyone know Chinese that's knows them?

Is this related to the "large transaction" issue?
If they sent it then it's stuck on receiving end?

After you trade Fz to Yuan on guogao, how do you get back into cryptocurrency since there is no btc/ltc etc.
Unless your currency is yuan ofcourse.

Am I missing something?

It's a little dicey to be honest. You would have to move it from one to another Alt. I am already missing 3500 FZ and not sure what to do next. Going to contact
the receiver first and hope they can fix the wallet on their end. Sounds likes it's a client issue with FZ? If not then I guess if off to learn Chinese or find someone who knows
the site to get my money. That was fast .. lol. Been on guogao for one day.

BTER has English speakers. They have been good to me lately.

But this new site seems a little scary for now. Seems to work but no english and now missing FZ.
I do think the FZ missing is a client issue and not the site from what is being said here.

I am hoping trenton or someone from the forum can help. Also contacting receiver tonight.

Hello YoyodyneSystems,

I don't think it's the issue about large transactions: in this case the transaction is declined at the sender's site and is generating no transaction id. Could you send the transaction id or the raw transaction? I could then check if the txid has arrived here or try to push the tx to the block chain.

I'll update the comment in the OP to be careful with the site. Thanks for the feedback also regarding FZ/CNY and good luck with the 3.5k Fz!

Many greetings

trenton

Yep, you're a bit late, but luckily not yet too late to participate at the larger block rewards. It's still at about 18.5 Fz / block.

Maybe you give the Haiku contest a shot for a few extra coins?

I think it is people that are interested in owning and using Frozen - a non premined alt. People have been mining for about 5 weeks now and the block reward is decreasing every day making it harder to mine.

This is good for the community. I'm sure there will be a dip, as there is with every increase, but it will just continue to progress.

Something tells me the sudden interest is because BTC38 is adding two new coins in like two hours to their exchange.  Maybe some people think frozen will be one of them.

Release v1.1.0.8 (Win + Mac + Lin64)
Dear all,

I've just released the new Release v1.1.0.8. I recommend an upgrade, even though it is not strictly necessary or urgent. The Windows release has now the QR code functionality included, and there is the first time a Linux variant (for the beginning only for 64 bit variants). I wait a bit for your feedback before updating the bct-thread.

*** As for all upgrades: please make a backup of your wallet.dat to be on the safe side ***

Binaries:
v1.1.0.8 Windows (for 32 + 64 bit)
v1.1.0.8 Mac (OSX Intel)
v1.1.0.8 Linux (64bit)

Changes of v1.1.0.8:
added rpc command "getcoinsupply [blockheight]" and the entry coinsupply for the rpc command "getinfo"
added tests for the total coin supply and found a bug for late blocks. After fix: block 1,691,867 is the last last block allowing a reward, it is scheduled to be mined about 560 days after block one
added rpc command "getblockreward [blockheight]"
fixed the parametrized version of "getnetworkhashps"
added checkpoint for block 77778 (first block with reduced reward)
removed an unused seed node source

Anyone else lose FZ coins withdrawn from guogao.com?
I lost 3 FZ withdrawals now. One to the wallet of mine and 2 to coinedup.
Seems like it's randomly failing to send them but recording them as sent.

We are certain it's an exchange issue. Just have to find English support or someone that can help.

Anyone know the operators and speak Chinese...heh?

I've just released the new Release v1.1.0.8. I recommend an upgrade, even though it is not strictly necessary or urgent.

Just tested... (also new commands), works great, thx.

Just wanted to say Trenton is one of the best Devs of any coin I have ever seen.
He personally helped me with an issue and responded very fast.

I have been trading Frozen and I think it may show up on BTC38 and or Cryptsy in the near future.
BTC38 actually has two more open slots and from the looks of how they move things around
on the little alt coin page FZ has a really good chance of being one of the next two coins.
And Cryptsy is highly likely in the next couple weeks also. So one of the few coins out there
you can call an "investment".

FZ is one of my favs.

I think the community here is one of the best I have seen since he took over.

I would not be surprised to see FZ trading at a 3 million -5 million market cap in a couple weeks
or so. It's moving quickly. Maybe less time? Will see. Fun ride.

We're trying to get on cryptsy. I posted another, refreshed, request.

I'm going to see if we can get the coin on reddit via the altcointip bot. I think that would be good for exposure.

Hey all,

many thanks for the good words and thank you likewise for your commitment! I think the New Cryptsy Support Request (https://cryptsy.freshdesk.com/support/discussions/topics/73038) is a good move! (Dear reader: please support Frozen here as well! And: don't miss the Frozen Haiku contest (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=412571) with rewards of 700 Fz!)

FYI, I've just completed the Frozen v1.1.0.8 binary releases (https://github.com/fzcoin/frozencoin_binaries) with a 32-bit variant: Frozen-Wallet v1.1.0.8 for Linux 32bit (https://github.com/fzcoin/frozencoin_binaries.git).

Many greetings

Frozen digest #2

Changes of the initial post:
  • TheFourthSaint started a new Cryptsy Support Ticket (https://cryptsy.freshdesk.com/support/discussions/topics/73038) to add Frozen. Please add a comment if you support Frozen!
  • Added the new Frozen release v1.1.0.8 (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=411291.msg4601344#msg4601344) including Frozen binaries for Windows, Mac, Linux 64-bit and Linux 32-bit (https://github.com/fzcoin/frozencoin_binaries)
  • Added FrozenCoinFz @ facebook (https://www.facebook.com/FrozenCoinFz)
  • Added frozencoin @ vk (http://vk.com/frozencoin) (Russian language: Элeктpoннaя вaлютa Frozen Coin (vk))
  • Intermediately removed the poll Which coin do you want to see added to http://cryptokopen.eu? (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=417125.60) because it was declared closed and was adding the number 5 or 6 of the votes (LOT). In the meantime the poll is available again, the thread owner asks for donations to get further coins listed faster.
  • Added a pool in Chinese language (SG1 | 冰河币矿池 FZ矿池 (http://fz.sg1.com.cn:10001/static/), support thread @ frozentalk.org (http://www.frozentalk.org/showthread.php?tid=41))
  • Added a new exchange in Chinese language (GuoGao.com (http://www.guogao.com/trade/FZ/)). However, the exchange seems to fight with technical issues, the user YoyodyneSystems reported about (hopefully temporary) coin losses. Current status: the site is reporting an ongoing system repair / improvement and is offline until about January 22nd.
  • Finalized the block reward table after thorough checks. The last block with a reward will be in about 1.5 years at block 1,691,867. Technical note: with release v1.1.0.8 you can check that yourself via RPC, e.g. "frozend getblockreward 1691868" or "frozend getcoinsupply 1691868".

Other news:
  • coinmarketcap.com (http://www.coinmarketcap.com) has adopted Frozen
  • Some rumors in China claimed that btc38 would adopt Frozen as the next coin. This seems to have boosted the Frozen demand (and price) for about a day, now it's back to normal
  • Beneziva's giveaway thread is closed now (lots of thanks for the sponsoring and maintenance!)
  • TheFourthSaint stocked up the Haiku Contest (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=412571) with 200 Fz from the donation pot, the rewards make now 700 Fz! Don't miss this three-line-poetry!
  • jaybeeuk continues his work on the Frozen Block Explorer (http://frozen.blockchainexplorer.co.uk/)
  • The market price is developing quite well, since the last digest Frozen is up about > 50% to about 0.00012 BTC (I ignore the mislead btc38 hype prices). Since QRK is priced at a similar level but with a coin supply of 32 times of Frozen I think it is reasonable to expect further growth

What you can do:
  • Be creative and have fun! :D
  • Join at frozentalk.org (http://www.frozentalk.org), tweet #FrozenCoin, socialize in general e.g. via facebook (https://www.facebook.com/FrozenCoinFz) / reddit (http://www.reddit.com/r/FrozenCoin) / vk (http://vk.com/frozencoin)
  • LasersGoPew @ frozentalk.org (http://www.frozentalk.org) started an initiative to Translate The Frozen Site (http://www.frozentalk.org/showthread.php?tid=48). We have so far German, Portuguese, Romanian, Spanish. It'd be cool if you can add new ones or help to verify and improve the translations :)
  • xsimlix @ frozentalk.org (http://www.frozentalk.org) suggests amongst others to Add Frozen In Your Sig (http://www.frozentalk.org/showthread.php?tid=54) with your favorite slogan (like "**Brrrr it's cold out here - Frozen is coming**")

Older digests:
  • #1 (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=411291.msg4531778#msg4531778)

Thanks to all supporters for your committment! It's fun to work with you together!

PS: As I do tend to forget... If I forgot some credits or issues please give me a shout :)

Thanks for that nice guide!
I'm a newbie in mining and wanted to test it when I saw your guide. I did all your steps and it seems that the mining is working. It is running about 4 hours now and I'm using the pool http://fz2.mine-pool.net:9372/static/ - but up to now I haven't received any Frozen when I have a look in my wallet.

Is that normal? How long does it take to get a payout?

Thanks for the help!  :)

Hey xsim27x,

in short: I think 4 hours is long enough to expect some amounts in your wallet - please check the number of shares your miner found (see below) and the settings for your payout address.

more details: when a pool finds a valid block it must wait at least until the coin reward from this block is "mature". For Frozen this maturity takes 240 blocks. The average time to mine a block is set to 30 seconds, so the maturity of the coins should take about 2 hours. This would be the minimum waiting time (rule of thumb), depending on the pool it can take longer.

If your miner found some shares and submitted them successfully to the pool you will find log lines like "[2014-01-21 14:39:00] accepted: x/y (99.11%), zz khash/s (yay!!!)". Each of these 'yay!!!' indicates a share. The number of 'yay!!!'s makes an upper estimation for the number of shares for which you will be paid (some may be discarded from the pool because the related blocks were "orphaned").

I'm not really sure, but I think the pool you are using has two disadvantages: you don't see statistics about the number of your shares and you cannot "bundle" your share-payouts into bigger amounts. The latter is becoming quite important, because otherwise you will have to do the "bundling" yourself or can only send very small amounts.

Many greetings

trenton

I have checked that and there were several "yay!!"s so that means that I should get some Frozens but I still haven't got any.

My command is as follows:
./minerd -a quark -t 4 -o http://fz2.mine-pool.net:9372 -u <mywalletadress> -p xxx

I'm a newbie so I have just choosen the first pool I was able to find. So is there any bether pool to mine Frozen that you can recommend me? As I posted before I'm cloud mining them as KoningKaas describes it in his guide.

I have checked that and there were several "yay!!"s so that means that I should get some Frozens but I still haven't got any.
I hadn't checked the pools for a while... They developed asymmetrical, so that there is actually one pool dominating the others. This pool will snatch most of the blocks. Practically this means that most of your shares will be lost, because a different pool was winning the blocks for which you were contesting. I'm a bit unhappy to recommend you this biggest pool, because ideally there should be competition among the pools... But with little hash power you have not really an alternative to coinmine.pl. Please use this one and follow its instructions ("Getting started"):

http://www.coinmine.pl/fz/

Just to make it clear: the pool itself is very good and reliable, the user feeleep from bitcointalk has been supporting it very well (many thanks for that!). The source of my unhappyness is simply that I don't like the concentration of the main hash power in a single pool.

Many greetings and good mining!

trenton

PS: You *can* also stay at your or move to a different pool, there is also a benefit to it: *If* the pool finds a block, your share of the block reward will be bigger. You find less often a block and have less constant payouts, but the payouts are bigger.

Thanks trenton for your help. So I switched to coinmine.pl now.

The mining is working but I'm not sure if I configured it correctly. My last command I typed in was:
./minerd -a quark -o stratum+tcp://mine2.coinmine.pl:4020 -u Weblogin.Worker -p Worker password

I got this command from the Getting started page at coinmine.pl
Is this the right command to mine Frozen? Or how does the mining process know that I want to mine Frozen? (Sorry if that's a newbie question)

Also in my coinmine.pl account under the section "workers" there is a dark X under "Active" of my worker. Shouldn't the worker be active when I'm using it during my mining process?

EDIT: OK never mind, it's working fine and I even got my first Frozen reward there  :)

I have my miners split between two pools. Using coinmine.pl as the main pool and sent some MH/s to smalltimeminers also.

Big pool definitely pays out all the time, but it's small amounts per share.

Or how does the mining process know that I want to mine Frozen?
Hey xsim27x,

the "Getting started" page of coinmine.pl has the authority to say what's right :) so I guess it's ok. Frozen is using the hashing algorithms of "quark", that's how minerd knows it. The two main alternatives are "scrypt" for coins using LiteCoin algorithms and sha256 for coins using BitCoin algorithms. If your miner is delivering some shares you should see it in the stats after a while.

If you should have several cores to spend I deem it a good idea to split them amongst different pools, as TFS suggests.

Happy mining!

trenton

PS: the dark "X" at your worker list indicates that the worker is currently not sending shares. It takes a bit of time until the system recognizes it. (Just think of that the system cannot know if your miner is working until it sends 'yeah!!!' shares :)

-u Weblogin.Worker -p Worker password

Those should be YOUR workers. Under the worker tab, you can create worker names. I would do name my workers: 1, 2, 3, etc. with a password like x. so the string would look like:

./minerd -a quark -o stratum+tcp://mine2.coinmine.pl:4020 -u TheFourthSaint.1 -p x

Does that make sense?

Edit: Just saw you got it working. Ignore the above :)

In a future not too far the block reward will be 0.075 FZ - so in a way it's nearly ok to say your faucet gives 1 .. 6 blocks as reward :)

So, I'm CPU mining on Frozen on the coinmine pool.

I see users with hashrates of 20,000, 50,000, and much higher than that even.

How are they accomplishing this? Are they botnets? Are they network admins? Are they cloud computing clusters?

How?!?

Some people have access to lots of systems. I mine on 6-10 computers and hit 5-7 MH/s, because I have access to them, along with mining on cloud servers. If I really wanted to get into it, I could write a little batch file to mine during idle time on work computers (probably add another 40-50 systems) and no one would ever know. But I'm happy with what I have right now.

CPU mining is susceptible to botnets, yes, but I havent heard of anyone doing so yet.

I never fully understood why it is just CPU coins that can be botnet'd.  Would a GPU botnet not be less noticaeable?

I have to say that it is hard to find any other coin out there that works so smoothly as Frozen does. Its release was fair to the community due to no premine or any other scam actions and there hasn't been any pump and dump...

This coin truely has got the potential for a very well future and I really hope that soon some major exchanges will recognize Frozen and add it. I wish the coin all the best  :)

Not that big on the FZ funds :-X Just wasn't really sure what a good payout rate would be for the faucet
In a future not too far the block reward will be 0.075 FZ - so in a way it's nearly ok to say your faucet gives 1 .. 6 blocks as reward :)

Youre right, might lower it more by then  :-X

I've just emailed the admin of Ice Tor - http://icetor.is/ who hosts fast Tor Exit nodes in Iceland and is also a partner of torservers.net

They already accept Bitcoin donations and I thought it would be really cool (pun intended) if they might consider accepting Frozencoin as well.

The Frozencoin Accepted Here logo would look great on their donations page.

I've also asked about the cost of hosting Frozen Tor Relay's in Iceland for a year and if Frozencoin could be accepted to host such a Tor Relay.

Crypto in action - Freedom from the forzen north  ;D

~ Ice Tor Exit relays already feature as part of my example fast Tor Browser Bundle Browser confg.

See: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=331077.0

Hopefully I'll get a response from the admin. soon. Thanks.

Yeah, Cryptsy is moving more and more into crap coins with initial high volume... probably so he can make quick fees on those coins.

If another exchange picks this coin up, the trading volume will go crazy.

It's silly because the exchange would get fees from the coin, why is no one accepting it?

your better off joining a mining pool - coins already past the 1/2 way mark and its getting harder to mine. If your going solo - good luck.

addnode 46.19.139.232 add

All static VPS servers hosted in Switzerland - also running Tor Relay's although Frozen is not routing through Tor, yet.

Donations welcome: FZ: FNgbr3u4Xew9LfATmk4FxuC63NvNMogY34

...

Windows Azure VPS currently has a FREE Trial VPS for $200 for 30 days. You do need to provide valid account details, windows live ID and credit card number etc., although it works well for mining FZ - I'd recommend just 2 x 8 core servers and you need to use windows server 2008 as it uses less credits. About 10 days or less worth of mining.

Here's a youtube guide written for quark : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eg0XOverro0

...

VPS mining FZ - The cheapest windows VPS with the most cores that I could find is with Boson VPS (http://bosonvps.com/billing/aff.php?aff=003)

Its $16 a month for a fast 4 core VPS. Promo code: BOSONOFF10  should be valid for 10% off recurring. In my experience the servers based in Germany currently have the fastest cores for mining. Better value than digitalocean !

Cheers!

...

I'm thinking to produce some Silver - Frozen cards similar to my Cryptogenic Bullion cards.

See: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=245086.msg4668999#msg4668999

Any interest in this ? Quite like the idea of 'Frozen as Cryptogenic Bullion' and perhaps accepting FZ for CGB card and vice versa.  ;D

(moved from the non-community thread)

Ok... On the pool where I mine, I'm running about 20 mh/s and I'm not even close to being in the top 15 miners. There are guys with 20, 40, and up to 100+ mh/s... I've looked into azure and other cloud services, and even Amazon EC2, and none of those seem cost effective...

Hello nightengale,

I don't know either. My best guess is that some of these large accounts are in fact collective accounts for mining-groups. Frozen is quite popular in China and I think these guys work like this.

I haven't heard of Botnets for Quark like coins, and I don't think this would be the case. About the cost effectiveness with cloud services I guess you should also consider some amount of speculation: some miners keep their coins instead of selling them off immediately. For Frozen it would make perfect sense to mine now and sell later: the block reward is currently still above 10 Fz, but not for long any more. I speculate that mid term the price per coin can easily jump to factor 10 - it would still be cheaper than QRK today when measuring against the total coin supply.

Many greetings

OP requested some port forwarded addnodes. Herewith,

addnode=46.19.143.137
addnode=46.19.143.141
addnode=46.19.139.232

or for Help > Debug window copy paste:

addnode 46.19.143.137 add
addnode 46.19.143.141 add
addnode 46.19.139.232 add

Quite like the idea of 'Frozen as Cryptogenic Bullion' and perhaps accepting FZ for CGB card and vice versa.  ;D

I tried azure a lot of times but everytime i get the message to contact mastercard :( after searching google i see they dont except prepaid cards  :-\

so the dev who did all this effort to build this "very nice" coin is not part of the coin anymore, a scammer.

and how much coin does he have? surely enough to f**** it up in the markets.

The blockchain has been inspected many times.  There was no premine, there was no insta-mine, and there have been community pools open since the very early stages of the coin.  He has as many coins as he was able to mine or buy... just like everybody else.  I have enough to "F*** up" the market as well, but only because I've invested in the coin for some time now... why would I want to try and kill the value of a coin that I've invested time and money into?

Don't think so. He had to mine as all the others. Maybe he run away with a bounty on 10000 for coding, that the community did donate. He told us it was a Kines dev that framed him :) And I thin he bought a lot @ 0.0001 BTC, if he have some left I don't think he will dump it.

Of all the Quark clones that launched since december, Frozen was one of the fairest, distribution-wise. But I think it lacks the transaction volume to be adapted by cryptsy, which seems to adopt only shitcoins that are good for big pumps recently.

That's probably true in some capacity, but it's entirely possible for it to be added to Cryptsy still. There have been a couple of coins added recently which don't have enormous volume too. RPC comes to mind.

BTC/FZ market now open on Poloniex.

:-)
Please don't use a serif font for your website...
It would look much cleaner with a sans-serif

Check http://www.pallasweb.com/fonts.html (http://www.pallasweb.com/fonts.html)

Serif fonts have small strokes or lines that extend from the ends of letters and symbols. They can look like small feet, caps, tails, flags or dots. Because the lines make each character more distinct, serif text is easier to read. Serif fonts have been used for centuries in printed books, magazines and newspapers, and are the preferred fonts for text that has a “humanistic theme.”

Dear miners,

FYI, Frozen's block reward is now at about 13 FZ / block. It will take only about 5 weeks from now to decline to 5 FZ / block and will then decline step by step to 0.075 FZ per block.

if you are inclined to mine the Frozen (quark based mining) I'd recommend you start quickly. Find various wallets and further information in the OP.

Happy mining!

Yeah, it's a warm site for disaster recovery.  If SRM (site recovery manager) kicks off the first step is to kill the running batch files.  We're paying for circuits, not for power usage, so the boxes might as well be doing something.

Frozen's block reward started with 50 FZ per block and is now at 10 FZ per block. It continues to decrease hour by hour.  About 70% of all FZ ever are mined now, which means on the other hand that 30% are still up for grabs! They will be mined in the course of about a year.

Find wallets and pools in the original posting (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=411291.0).

Have fun!

If you get the attentions from the right people, and investors coinedup may work.
Look at VTC
http://www.cryptocoincharts.info/period-charts.php?period=2-days&resolution=hour&pair=vtc-btc&market=coinedup

I'd wish I hadn't sold early :(

Hey all,

I have been asking to list FZ, the support's answer: the users may please take part in their poll of coins to add.

So: please do :)

Many greetings

We need a better exchange with more volume

And we probably need more volume on coinedup.com, to make Frozen an attractive coin for the bigger exchanges. So if every one starts to trade some, by and sell. Maybe more people will join, and we will be an attractive coin for larger exchanges :)

And I would say : all move to www.poloniex.com exchange (thx busoni !  :D)
Much much faster exchange and look at the trades of VTC, Q2C, MTC... poloniex is getting bigger and bigger... love it (except the fonts, lol  ;D)

:P
Please don't use a serif font for your website...
It would look much cleaner with a sans-serif

Good volume for FZ today, and a increase int the price. Join and do some buying and selling, we need more volume. If no one sell for less then 0.00015, we can try to go up from there ;)

I was talking about Frozen in IRC for a while and every new person that listened about it told me about BlockErupter scam. I think that the first step is some blog posts and a note on OP clarifying what happened and how the comunity took the coin, that would be an important step. After that the comunity should move the coin in the social media Reddit, Twitter, etc and act as one to reach more and more people.

Biggest problem is google search.
When you search for "Frozen bitcoin" you get this thread : https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=366762.0  = the scam thread  :-[
If there was a possibilty to remove that thread a lot of misunderstanding about Frozen would be solved...
I don't think its possible to remove that trhead or to link it to this thread... that would be a sollution.

Why not? The first post was a scam and also after the takeover BlockErupter tried to steal more coins with the btc38 post on reddit. They just should point the first post to this one and trenton should put a note on OP explaining the situation.

You can help speeding this up by giving a link or so to the new thread.

Hey, thanks a lot for the compliments!

In fact I'd be very happy if everybody simply starts to promote Frozen. Let's all rely on all, that's best :D

PS: technically I'm starting to think about a small new feature, an encrypted "PM" (personal message) which can be sent to any Frozen address. Roughly: make it a special transaction type which *costs* a bit of fees, like 0.05 FZ per PM. I like the idea to use fees for two reasons: it helps to keep the people mining and it makes Spam expensive. If you like or hate it or have comments I'd be glad to hear.

Something else - I've the impression CoinedUp (FZ) (https://coinedup.com/OrderBook?market=FZ&base=BTC) is a lot faster than usual, are there news about upgrades or so?

Made a start...

I've built a free web based proxy to help advertise Frozen.

Frozen Proxy - http://fz.cu.cc

Its a bit of a random free domain, although the proxy web hosting is good.

Anyway, I've placed links to the Frozen website, FrozenTalk forum and also to the 'Freezer Faucet' on the homepage.

The website serves a one-time on-click pop-under per user per session for the fzcoin.cc homepage.

I'll keep the site active in various proxy listing websites, so it will get a fair amount of random traffic.

Cheers!

P.S. Also sending 1,000+ auto hits per. day via auto traffic exchanges to fzcoin.cc to help increase page rank.  :D

Hey baigreen,

the exchanges react very well if they see there is demand to exchange the coin by the users - it helps a lot all users have their favorite exchange and ask the support themselves to add Frozen. I'll certainly do the same, but my voice is just one among many.

I'm currently thinking of:
- a few new smaller features for Frozen (my favorite idea is an encrypted "personal message" via the block chain)
- supporting a mobile wallet for Android

However I have no concrete schedule yet. I'll announce it widely, when it is getting closer.

Many greetings

thanks a lot for offering donations! I know you are advertising FZ in China a lot, and I think the best use for donations would be if you continue to use the coins for giveaways for more new users.

I'm quite busy these days and therefore need more time for a mobile wallet, unfortunately I cannot give a date today. I'll make an update about a date in about two weeks.

Hey AdamT,

shouldn't be :)

First, the decline is quite small. FZ is quite stable since a month or so at a price around 0.00012 BTC, with majorly a few jumps up. The general trend is still heavily up, imho. Secondly, there is still a decline for many coins. In previous times this was similar for other coins - a relaxation phase before the next big jump.

Many greetings

When the coin was growing nobody said anything, and now a bunch of whining people come here. Do you really want a coin leaded by a scammer?

Hey bobalo,

Frozen is far from forgotten, it's development is continueing.

I wonder how can you have lost your investment, as the price of the coin is quite stable since its start? There have been a few outbreaks to the North, but if you didn't buy on the peak your investment should be fine or with a relatively marginal loss.

Hi trenton , well at the current prices I lost the investment , but that can change if the value rises.
It's not stable I bought it about 0.0002 per FZ , now current price (for about week already) is 0.00009205

There will be only 7,777,777 FZ which is about 1/32th of total supply of QRK.

So there is no reason for FZ to be less valued than QRK, price is either ridiculously low now or worse, for those HODLing, QRK is over valued which i dont think so.

I got my silver-laden Frozen card today!  Pretty cool piece of alt-coin history and going on display tomorrow at my office.  When I get out to my Vegas datacenter in April I'll take a picture with it and the dedicated FRS (FrozenCoin Server Rack) that I've been mining with since day 1.

Been mining since day two and haven't stopped.  Even when I lost 1800 due to hardware failure...I spent LTC to gain more coin.

Frozen's main issue is the limited amount of total miners...meaning coins are held by few.  Hopefully this changes soon and we start seeing progress with the coin.

if your on the latest wallet, try

backup your wallet.dat and run the -salvagewallet command from the cmd prompt.

then try and send again.

Hey MikkaMK,

good advice from tygarbyte! Additionally please set the transaction fee (settings -> options -> main) to something like 0.001 or 0.002 FZ. This workaround is actually only required for transactions with a big byte size, but it keeps you safe from running into similar situations.

@everybody, advice: please set the transaction fee to 0.002 FZ.

Many greetings

trenton

Would be nice if more exchanges listed FZ, currently trading mostly @ CoinedUp and Poloniex depending on prices.

I wish you guys the best of luck with making this coin succeed, I have moved on in the meantime. This coin could succeed if the community were to be larger, but I am afraid this coin is nearing dead, if the community stays this quiet about this coin. People should be spreading news about FZ in order to give FZ a chance of making it.

The coin is working fine. If it ain't broke, don't fix it!
Just give it some time to mature, we already have an exchange and everything - what more would you want? No need for any pump and dump here!

You guys are getting pathetic, this coin is dead and there is no single reason to baghold FZ, I am very glad I got out in time, thanks to that I became a much better trader. Trenton is a nice guy but he pretty much ruined the coin, this coin could have survived if Block Erupter took charge but the didn't and we didn't allow him, now this coin is dead. This coin can only go lower, new people should stop wasting their time on this worthless coin.

No, he's only partially right: this coin is dead, yes, but it's not Trenton's fault. Block_Eruptor basically was involved in some very shady happenings and he and his partner helped create a coin that really had no long-term potential. It's just like QRK, but with a slightly slower payout and fewer total coins. QRK is a joke now, and Frozen (apparently named after the movie when it first launched -- that's how awesome this coin is!) is even worse because it was merely a clone. It appears all of the exchanges have recognized this fact as well now.
