so, happy mining!
I'm new to the forum, also.

does anyone recommend any monitoring software?
i used cgmonitor so far, but it does seem to have little trouble with ANTs and switched to bfg anyway.

Welcome aboard people. I don't know much about monitoring software, but I am positive the mining section has an answer for you.

Welcome aboard! I suggest you read the newbie readme (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=177133.0) and also this Bitcoin guide (http://free-btc.net.tf/#!/whats_btc) if you are relatively new to BTC.
