Stop posting reserved, watching, subbed, or any other variation of placeholder. It's getting ridiculous, if you don't have anything to say, then don't post. If you're only doing it so you can follow the thread, stop it and use the watchlist (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=90136.0) instead (all you have to do is hit the watch button, it's even less effort than posting crappy replies). And don't start replacing them with one word comments like "cool" or "like" either.

Report reserved posts and their variations when you see them, they will get deleted.  

Also, giveaways are no longer allowed due to the high volume of spam it generates, this is a discussion forum. Incentivizing people to post in your thread will result in your thread being locked. Finally, we'll get rid of those nonsense posts. In some threads entire first page was just reserved posts...

From time to time, I've also seen sort of placeholder posts with text like "This post is for sale for 0.01 BTC" or "Your ad here for 0.05 BTC for a lifetime".
I hope these will be deleted as well ....

Hey mod on a serious note, could we get some auto-locking of giveaway threads?
It's getting really irritating that each time a noobie get's out of the purgatory they come to the alt section and start reviving threads that are dead for weeks or even months. They don't even read if there was a post limit, date limit, or some rule for the giveaway, they just mindlessly post their address as if that would be getting them anything.

When I click on a "new" of a thread, I got directed to the top of the page where I'm supposed to go, instead of the new post itself.

I genuinely don't understand the whole reserved thing? Do they think the thread will be locked or something and they are reserving a space to ask a question later? But then, if it's locked then nobody will be able to reply to their post. Very strange.

I've ran and used some of the largest forums in the world and only on here have I ever experienced this strange behaviour.

IMHO this is coming from announcement threads, when new altcoins are announced way before launch. The first people that wrote "Reserved" meant they reserve mining power/time of their GPUs to mine the coin. Or they reserve time to setup mining.

So first "Reserved" meant "I am gonna mine (on launch).". Then it became cool, because it's pretty funny and people posted it everywhere (every thread they support or wanna watch).

I am like you, I first didn't understood it. Then I thought its fkn funny and I started to post alot of "Reserved" until it got banned. :<

I'm pretty sure this isn't what they mean when they post 'reserved'.

Haven't we learnt from history that banning people from saying something Never ever works ? I know it's annoying but now instead of "reserved" people say "interested" or another one word like "cool"

I hated the reserved thing but really who cares, it's part of the free culture of this forum.

Think of it as scolding/shouting at a child. If peoples posts keep getting deleted they'll eventually get the message.

I really miss "Reserved".

I just delete those too, don't bother me. People will learn once they get annoyed enough at having their posts deleted.

I guess you mods spot them fairly easily so would it be really helpful to report them or it will just add to the wasted time for checking my report also , for a post that might already be deleted?

Couldn't you just think of something else to say instead? I'm sure you'd be safe typing "I'm very interested in this coin" etc which you could just edit later.

I'd argue this is a valid complaint given there is a character limit for posts which I've managed to run into a couple times, on top of the obvious organizational benefits in having a "hard" separation between information. Maybe reserved posts shouldn't be removed if there's a certain flag in the post like "Reserved. [OP]" If abused, temp ban.

Well I guess that's different, but you could've put reserved for future info or whatever or just put three other comments there which would be safer. Maybe just put a note to the mod to not delete them.

This is the one legitimate time to do that with SMF character limits, but you should post something besides reserved with all the reserved spam going on lately. I don't remember deleting yours but it might have been me, even if one mod realizes that it's legitimate, not all will.

Can I just ask then .. BadBear are you the new Mod of these forums??

I've been a global moderator (which is the entire forum, includes alt currencies) for over two years. I just don't post much. Spam in alt currencies is getting out of hand lately, so more moderation, so getting noticed more.

The front page already is noticebly cleaner.

Although a relative newbie here, I have noticed that the number of threads with giveaways etc clutters the forum considerably.

However I can appreciate that these giveaways are an essential part of marketing for a coin, and moreover will be expected to happen for any coins with a premine.  It would therefore make sense to me to have a giveaway subforum where these can take place without cluttering the main alt coin forum itself.

These coins will need to be marketed, and it would seem the sensible move to allow this to continue here in a structured manner rather than drive this activity away from the site to other locations.  If coins are to be launched here, then it would seem sensible that all other information about a coin should be available here too, its just about keeping that information tidy.  Can a subforum for giveaways etc be considered?

It makes sense to reserve a post if the user needs it to fill more information when launching an asset
Also when someone is evaluating the IPO they may want to reserve while reading through the prospectus to come toward a proper opinion.

i have watched how these handful of well known coin spammers either create on the fly new accounts
or they simply make them far in advance.. for nothing more than pretending to be someone else etc
I'd love to see an account limit !
Maybe add a script or something that would lock the account if one of these coin cloners make a new account.
If these guys were exposed for who they are i bet a lot of these newer users would think twice about mining XYZ name new coin.

Is the goal to drive away alt coins altogether, or is this just some sort of passing buthurt?

I mean, seriously. Almost every coin has the devs reserving a space or two early on for updates. It's also common in group buys, for much the same reason. You may be planning to add something as the coin/thread/groupbuy continues.

And the giveaway thing? Make it universal, or just get rid of the altcoin section. Be consistent. (not that the administration ever has been, but hey, you could start here...)

Let's face it: Moderation on bitcointalk is random, arbitrary, and capricious. Why make a pretense to the contrary? Just state your actual intent, don't make it look as if it had something to do with "complaints" or "spam" or some other such nonsense.

It's pretty obvious you don't actually read this board if you think this is about OP's reserving the first post for updates. Before this, literally every post on the first page of new threads was 'reserved' or 'post for sale, pools contact me', and half the posts on the following pages. I even covered OPs reserving for updates on the last page, and said it was ok.

All we're asking for here is that people don't encourage others to make posts that don't move a discussion forward. You can have giveaways all you want, just don't have people make posts here to claim the item. Link to another website instead. Besides, you don't want your community to only exist under our rule, you should take that for yourself.

We get almost 1 new page of threads every day or two. Don't you see the crapcoinclones is destroying the original purpose of Cryptocurrency? Rules are needed to make this look way more professional. Investors may check this "new" thing out and find pages after pages with Sloppy coins that make them run away. Shitcoin, Fuckbankscoin, Fuckcoin, Vaginacoin, Memecoins e.t.c

• Proper firstpost, great structure and should contain all needed info for a 100% functioning coin.
• Non copyrighted stuff (Grumpycoin, Frycoin, e.t.c)
• No more clones, It should have something special, we want to bring the technology forward, not stay in the same spot

its precisely those posts, it seems to have evolved into reserved. I haven't ever seen the need for it, except for when its the original post and they have to much  info for one post.


As for the give away threads  - i was thinking that there could be official ones but it would be a case of Bitcointalk actually getting a chunk of the coin to start with to help with the costs of running the site (I assume with so many users there's are some bandwidth costs to cover)

I actually like the giveaway threads, I dont partake in many of them because generally they are so small in reward and its better just turning a miner onto the coin for a couple of blocks - but they help get people to download the wallets and thats always half the battle imo.

You cannot really do that because posts have to remain modifiable for example the first post of a thread. The post gets modified to reflect new changes and procedures.

If I remember correctly, the rule says that any "replacement" for this should be considered one-and-the-same.  Report the posts when you see them.

• ALL IPO's must have trusted escrow - if the coin fails, investors still lose.  Dev can't get paid until he gives whatever the IPO reward is.
• New alt coins cannot have Self Moderated threads.  At least 3 new ones just tonight.  Enough.

I liked It about contrilling the spam postings but for new commers to BTC and in Crypto world i think its more better if we will keep one different sections for giveaway. What you think about this Ideas?
New commers will always be in search of some free giveaways and to start. We must promote them and to encourage them.

I completely agree with this. A well defined area for giveaways is needed.

I noticed that more then 75% of posts on first pages of ANN's are still "Reserved" posts except most people don't call it that. Very annoying because it's just spam you have to wade through. There's so little actual discussion.

Why not get a few extra mods to do that ? Getting some volunteers from the altcoin community won't cost bitcointalk ANYthing, so why not ?

If you report these posts, it won't be a problem for us to handle those.

Mods are paid, but that's besides the point. Finding people that can be trusted with mod powers is always a challenge.

A challenge? Sure, but it must be done, start of with some mod powers, give more responsibility over time.
I've been moderator for many bigger forums with thousands (9000+) of members writing on them, but I never had any "reputation" when I started, I was tryed out and it worked :)

This is a new model, the old model now has no one to play, it is going to some innovation, but this pattern should be almost over.

Reserved might have stopped, but now the pointless troll posts dominate the boards.

If only there could be a voting mechanism like reddit. or hide functionality that would allow a post with enough hides (from members with enough authority or post count, or wtv criteria you figure) could hide these trolls.
