The total between both wallets is around BTC175,000 which is about 1.5% of all bitcoins. From what I have read there are arguably 20-40% of the total bitcoins out of circulation from early mining, lost bitcoins, and dormant wallets. I am sure the US Government is in for the money, simply dropping BTC175,000 for nothing is not benefit to them, it doesn't help make the US dollar stronger nor will lower the deficit. Will it take a LONG time to regain the original price if that happens ? No one knows. But at the way things are right now where the price of bitcoin is keeping at a steady $1000 CAD at MtGox if the price does drop it will eventually; in a week or two; climb back up to $1000 per BTC. If we start "marking" coins as being this or that, it would never end. Each coin would have an "audit trail", doesn't bear thinking about. Let's keep it simple.
