Ripple is pretty different too. 95% of the coins people will talk about are just clones with a different flavor, or, just plain old shitcoins. Most coins are based on existing models. TimeKoin based on time rather than hashing power and XRP is, well I find it kinda hard to explain really which could be a bit of a downfall for it but i'm currently 'mining' it via World Community Grid. I run TimeKoin on the same PC as it uses almost no extra power.
