Title: Dual R9 280X frequent BSOD
Post by: Prinzert on January 13, 2014, 02:10:02 PM
This rig seems to be experiencing a BSOD on Windows 7 every 4-5 hours.
It does not appear to be overheating in any of the components.
It's on a Gigabyte motherboard with a 750W Gold PSU.

Does anybody have any specific tips for dual 280x that seemed to be causing BSOD?

I use -w 256 -v 1 -I 13 -g 2 -l 1 --expiry 5 --scan-time 5 --queue 0  --thread-concurrency 8192 with default Voltage, Clocks, and Memory on My MSI R9 280x TF cards and they are pretty solid. They hash at about 700 MH each.  They use a lot more electricity than my MSI 7950 TF cards though.

I don't have the exact line in front of me. But they're running at 1070 GPU engine ( default ), 1500 Memory Engine ( down from 1600 default ), default volt, auto fan, temp target of 80c ( it hangs around 78 on one and 79 on the other ). I believe I have expire and queue both at 2 ( but I'll confirm when I get home this afternoon ). Intensity is set to 13. No changes to TC.
They're both running at 740+KH/s at fans about 40-50%.

I tried to undervolt but they wont take any voltage changes ( tried afterburner, trixx, asus gpu tweak ).
The PSU is 750W Gold...I know it's not a huge PSU but it's plenty to run those 2 cards.

I tried to set TC to 8192 as I saw that used by a lot of people. But, I only get like 300 out of the cards when I do that.

What mainboard/CPU combination are you using?  Two GPUs plus a CPU may be taxing the limits of your power supply, depending on how honest the rating is and what the +12v rails can provide.  Measure the voltage on your +12v rail while hashing and see if you're suffering from sagging voltage at the cards.

It's a GA-F2A88X-UP4 motherboard with an A4 4000 richland CPU.
The PSU is a Thermaltake Tough Power. The 12v rail is supposed to be able to deliver 60A. And it's not even running lukewarm.
Yesterday I lowered the air evacuation in the room that it's in, and it's actually been running stable for over 24 hours now. Not sure what to make of that.
