Hi everyone, my name is Leon Cullens and I'm a software engineer from the Netherlands. I made a Windows Phone 8 app for the Kraken exchange: http://www.windowsphone.com/s?appid=a3857353-599a-434f-8293-398745723de6. Note that this is not the official Kraken app, there are no current plans to release an official app for Windows Phone.

Right now it supports these features:

• List of all tradable currency pairs and their current value.
• Details for each tradable pair, inclusing current price, high/low price and the bid/ask price.
• Live tile for your favorite pair.
• Overview of your account balance.
• Overview of your open orders (and the ability to close them).
• Overview of your closed orders.
• The ability to open new trades from within the app.

I've followed your app through time, and it just looks amazing. It's a very clean neat design and the speed is what you need for an exchange app.
I'm looking forward to new versions that include trading from within the app.

Already waiting a long time for a good app for kraken(they say they are working on it but nothing published so far) and this app is more than welcome. Design is also great ;)

I'm sure these (free!!) initiatives will help bitcoin to gain a broader acceptance and become more professional.

I just submitted a new major release for my Kraken app. It will include an overview of your balance, an overview of your open & closed orders, and the ability to close orders.

I hope it will be live in the store within 5 days, but I'm not sure if it will pass certification since I didn't provide my API key.

The update successfully passed certification :) It should be live on your phone within 24 hours.

I've been busy with implementing trading. You can now purchase credits through in-app purchases, and the user interface for trading is almost done (see screenshot, it's more advanced than you can see at this one screenshot though). I also implemented a lot of small improvements.

I feel sad for not having a windows phone. This app looks awesome! I saw it has been downloaded already many times(>800) so I'm wondering about other's experience.

Here are some interesting statistics regarding it's usage/user loyalty:

• Of all the sessions, 97% is by returning visitors. 3% is by new visitors. Of all the users, 62.4% will use the app again (and this number is increasing because there are also a lot of new users).
• There are very few users who open the app only once, or a few times. A lot of users open the app at least 10 times, most of them even more than 25 times. There are users who used the app 200+ times.
• The large majority of the people use the app at least one time per day.
• People are very fast to update the app. Within 1 day, 60% of the people had updated to the newest version. Within 2 days, 90% had updated the app.

Nice. This data should be worth something to kraken.. Perfectly shows that people really want kraken trading apps for their phones!

I just released a minor update that should fix a couple of things, including the generic error when going to 'balance' or 'orders' when you didn't enter an API key, and entering an API key now no longer requires you to restart the app.

The trading feature is done as well, I'm going to do some final testing, and then I'll submit it. If everything goes well, and Microsoft accepts it, it should be live within a week.

Woot! Big news! Microsoft approved the update, meaning that trading bitcoins on the Windows Phone platform is now _legal_.

how do you pay if you want to buy credits? essentially what happens after you click "Purchase" button?
I understand it is not an open source? I believe it would be very fair to mention that in first post.

That works the same way you purchase apps. When you click the purchase button, a new screen will open with a description of the item, the price, etc. You can then click buy (which will charge your creditcard) or cancel.

I do not have any WP8 experience. So when I would buy credits I transfer fiat currency (which I have on microsoft market) to your microsoft wallet on the market?
You may think about the more elegant solution which would utilize our currencies then :)

You add your credit card information to your Microsoft account, and when the purchase button is pressed and you accept it, Microsoft automatically charges your credit card and gives the app a confirmation that it's successfully paid and verified.

I've been thinking about implementing bitcoin payments, but I don't see how I can implement that in a smooth way. As far as I know, there's no way to pay in bitcoins on Windows Phone. There is one (crappy) third-party wallet, but then you'd have to leave the app to make a payment. And I really wouldn't know how I'd get a callback/confirmation for that in my app.

Over the last few days, the story about the latest update spread like a wildfire on twitter and the internet in general :) A lot of websites wrote a story about it, here are a couple of important sites:

A lot of niche sites wrote about it as well. To name a few: CoinCourant, CoinReporter, TechieNews, BitcoinExaminer, etc.

I've seen a massive increase in downloads over the last few days. Keep in mind that Kraken is growing with ~2000 users per day (December 2013), and doubling their use base every month (source (https://angel.co/payward-kraken)). The Windows Phone 8 platform is also seeing a consistent growth every month, it outsells iPhone in 24 countries (source (http://www.forbes.com/sites/gordonkelly/2014/01/21/here-are-24-countries-where-windows-phone-outsells-the-iphone-and-why-it-does/)). In a lot of European countries, Windows Phone is the second largest OS. This coincides with Kraken's userbase which consists of 75% EU customers, 10% US customers and 15% customers from other countries (see angel.co source). Right now, Kraken is the #2 bitcoin exchange when it comes to XBT/EUR volume (source (https://bitcoinaverage.com/markets.htm#EUR)).

Another update just got published that added the following things:

- Graph on the details page
- Detailed graph when you click on it
- Slightly different design
- Button in the trading view that allows you to insert the maximum available volume in the 'volume' field
- New textboxes for the API settings (they have a button that allows you to clear the field)
- Wide live tile
- Added a loading bar
- Small bug fixes

I just submitted a new major version: 1.4.0.0.

It has the following changes:

- An order book
- Fixed the labels underneath the charts to avoid large numbers of labels overlapping each other
- Added the type (buy/sell, limit/market) to closed orders
- Added an order details view that can be opened by pressing and holding a closed order and clicking 'details'
- Now sets the selected pair from the settings as the default pair for trading
- Minor bug fixes (e.g., removed the 'API key' error when refreshing while the user didn't enter an API key)
- Various small changes (e.g. added tooltips to notify the user of 'hidden' features)

Thanks for a great app. I've been using it on my WP8 for a few weeks. I didn't know there was a thread for it on the forum until now.

Anyway, I just wanted to say thanks and keep up to good work!

I released a minor update today. It doesn't do much, but it adds support for Windows Phone 8.1. The most noticable change is the live tile, which will be transparent on Windows Phone 8.1 when you are using a background picture:

Other than that, I didn't change much. I updated all the dependencies and the app now uses the new API. It may be a bit faster.

Windows Phone 8.1 will roll out to consumers in the coming months. You can already opt-in for a preview of the update by downloading the 'Preview for developers' app in the store, and opting in for the developer preview. You can then let the phone check for updates, and install them.
