Title: Windows 7 // 4 card max?
Post by: TsaktuO on January 15, 2014, 10:58:37 PM
I was wondering if anyone else is having troubles with loading more than 4 cards on 1 mobo for windows 7 rig setup. I plan on running 6 cards on 1 mobo.
If it will be an issue, i will than have to run linux.. but Im kinda scared i wont be able to get the drivers i want with Linux.

PLEASE help me with what it best, thank youin advance for these questions.

In windows 7 maximum is 4 GPUs, try windows 8 I think there you can install 6 GPUs, last station is Linux SMOS or something else, its your choice.

You can do at least 5 if you use the correct driver. I recommend Cat 12.6 + SDK 2.7

Not sure about 6, never tried.

Also you may run into hardware limitations with your actual motherboard. Sometimes they won't let you use every PCI slot, even if you have them, without a workaround (presence jumper) or sometimes not even that. Varies by model.

Generally I find Win8 to be crappier for a rig than Win7, so try the old driver first.

It is possible to use 6gpu win7 system, but you have to manually edit the drivers, imo if you don't *want to feel suicidal or have a mental breakdown, go for 4gpu systems with win7 or win8 for 6gpu. Its just not worth it... or go for 5gpu in win7 but still, 4 is the safe choice. (typo edit)
