Title: Storage Crate Issues??
Post by: jtphenom on January 16, 2014, 12:56:48 AM
Hi folks,

So I'm building my first rig following the basic steps of cryptobadger's tutorial. But my milk crates have a problem, or rather a couple of them. First, the edges where I would screw down the GPUs have a little wall (so it’s an ‘L’ shape facing out.. ya dig?), so I can’t screw them directly to the edge of the crate. Also, when resting the brace on the crate, the bracket of the GPU is not level with any edges. Here is the model I’m using:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814121803&nm_mc=TEMC-RMA-Approvel&cm_mmc=TEMC-RMA-Approvel-_-Content-_-text-_-

Any suggestions?

Thanks!!
James

You may need some wood dowels to support the card and to give a suitable edge to screw into.  Pictures of your setup may help us to help you better :-)

I actually have not put anything together yet.. just planning it all out. But I'll try to get some pictures of my equipment (and some wood dowels). Thanks!

GPUs through out heat - won't that melt the hot glue?

Nah

Actually yes it can, and even if it doesn't melt it will significantly weaken.

Looks good! Thank you!

I don't have access to crates that big, though. I just bought a normal sized one and modified it with a vibrating blade. It's working pretty well!

The force is holding down though, it'll stay tacky enough to function or is the pci bracket not touching the crate?

If you're asking me, yes the bracket is touching the crate. :D

Use nylon strings to suspend your cards. In the front the string can go around the adapter plate. In the back the string can thread through the hole in the corner of the PCB. Tie the strings to either side of the crate.

Also, duct tape can do anything.
