It seems like 95% of the crypto 'community' has only one goal... to sell you whatever garbage someone will pay them $2/month to shill.  It's pathetic.

Where there's money to be made, there'll always be spam I'm afraid. The first thing internet marketers will do is establish where their target audience hang out. If the answer to that it bitcointalk , there you go.

That's why you have an ignore function on their avatar, usually that sort of thing is confined to the marketplace section but there are spammers that get through.

So much spam. Spam everywhere.

Id' stay out of the newbie or alt currency sections if you don't like walls of spam and crap everywhere  ;D.

The CryptoCoin world is an unregulated shark tank full of predators.
IMHO because they all smell blood for a good reason and gives a good example of what a "scam honeypot" looks like.

As everything is much more complicated in the BTC/Altcoin world than it is i.e. in the cash world, there's plenty of room for scams and abuse of all kinds - with a never-ending fresh supply of potential (unknowing) victims.

I guess that sums it up.

Likely not Bitcoin's fault, but what I've seen in this CryptoCoin world within the last 2 months alone was the biggest display of greed, scams, stupidity and all the worst of human qualities (concerning everything money related) that I have ever seen so compressed in my life. The relative anonymity of the Internet likely supports this behaviour.

Weird to see, that extreme type of "shark tank social order" I'd normally expect to see only on Wall Street.
A bit ironic and really made me think to see that the BitCoin world actually exceeds everything what is already considered normal on Wall Street by a far margin.
That's exactly what rang my first alarm bells on day 1 and caused me to make the decision not to stay any longer in the CryptoCurrency world than I absolutely have to.
Call it civilizatory decay or the signs of our times... I simply don't like what I see and would never feel "at home" in that world. Every of my senses tells me all this can't and won't end well, thus I limited my investments and was forced to prepared an exit strategy much faster than I anticipated.

But again, it's not due to BTC - it's the people and what they do.

I guess I shouldn't be surprised that most of the responses came from people who are so desperate for money that they add advertisements to their signatures.  Bumvertising at it's finest.

Well, the ad sigs are the main source of BTC for me since I don't buy it. Just because we're able to turn our hobby into profit and there are a few particulary annoying bad apples doesn't mean it's bad on the whole.

Considering every single gambling service on the Internet is a (more or less significant) scam, advertising scams isn't exactly what I call a "sweet apple" ;)
(but it's not uncommon for people without principles to sell out their souls for the prospect of a few pennies - they're the vast majority in the BTC world)

Why is it a scam? A scam is an operation which takes away ones possesions against their will through deceptive methods.

You already gave the very definition of every internet gambling service in existence.
A good gambling service just skims enough money off its addicts using different smoke screens/deceptons and complex algorithms to preserve the illusion of fair play and make them return even after losses.
That's how these services make money, due to math (stochastic) that's the only way without running openly visible fees.

If you believe there's a mathematically non-tilted, non-rigged BTC gambling service out there - sorry to break this to you, but there isn't. To even consider otherwise would be downright naive.
The entire gambling industry out there serves only one purpose : find fools with that addiction and skin them (some more, some less), that's what it's all about.

Short of the kinky / SM industry, it's the biggest industrialized abuse of customers in the world, so to speak. Definitely the oldest of them.

The millenia old saying doesn't exist for no reason : gamblers are fools (because they volunteer to be taken advantage of)
Arguably, one could call it a "fee" for their entertainment, but the only incentive of gambling service operators has only been money - since the dawn of time...

So, that makes it ok?  Do you try to sell something to every single person you talk to in real life, or beg them to go to a store and drop your name so you get a kickback?

There are provably fair systems and if they're the actual thing (as in they can actually be used to verify the results) and if used in conjunction to choosing your own client key, it isn't rigged. Yes, the whole mathematical method is created for the casinos in the end to win, but it's the people's choice to try fighting for some short-term gain.

Do you wear branded clothing or eat and drink from branded packaging? Nobody is selling or begging you try anything here, nor is anybody forcing you to do anything. You can also turn signatures off in your profile.

a guy tattoes NIKE on his forehead and you don't tell him anything but someone sets a signature and everyone loses their minds..

It's not even as bad as that. It's just like being sponsored/paid to promote a brand or product for something you were going to do anyway. Free money? Yes, please.

You got to love the alt coin spam. In a way they succeeded because they got  sub-forums like they asked.

they raise their own motivation and recruit people to their alt coin..

Do you read non-English forums? Using U.S. centric references to generalize to the "world" of crypto-currencies is naive at best.

The vast majority of posts are in englisch and being an international language, many aren't even coming from US users.
My observations aren't limited to the english side however. I found exactly the same in another language as well... I would have been surprised - to say the least - if it was any different.
