Post by: BitcoinAshley on January 19, 2014, 04:28:40 PM
This subforum is literally BRIMMING with bear threads. Here's what's on the first page:

BTC Beginning of the End ! (igorr)
2014 could be a slow year for bitcoin (wobber)
SHOTRING BITCOIN: This is a good idea right now (proudhon)
Worst Case Scenario: Price predictions? (Opsamk)
bearish sentiment in a possible third wave (chessnut)
Do we know why the price is dropping? (Remember remember...)
Confirmed bad news sources thread - No FUD, just facts!!!1 (proudhon)
Another BEARS ONLY discussion. When will bitcoin finally drop and how far? (Edward50)
The age of KARHU begins....seek ye refuge in alms to the KARHU! (KARHU)
Time to dump BTC now I say (DustyRah)

So with this kind of speculation subforum sentiment, why are we still more or less in the same place we've BEEN... ??????

Clearly it takes time for confirmed bad news from good sources to be internalized by enough people so that they understand how bad things are, and either SODL, or better, SHORT at maximum margin levels.  Once we enough people reach a proper understanding of the facts, as proven by good sources such as those in those threads, the price will set new 2014 lows and we will proceed with the ultimate collapse of the bitcoin market, as demonstrated by good sources.

Bitcoin has been in existence for the smallest time period and is in a hyper growth period.

Nobody has a clue.

Quite a few very reputable and educated sources do have a clue, though, and we are gathering all these good bad confirmed sources in one place (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=412280.0) so that people can see the writing on the wall.  Bitcoin cannot succeed as proven by these sources.

Lot of bearish threads are usually sign of buying or at least not selling :D

It's similar when forum gets loaded with "When will we see 1 million per BTC" threads.

You are pretty slow of the mark.

All the 'Short Bitcoin Now' threads were from 2-3 days ago. Since the shorting opportunity has passed, we have had a bounce and a revival falling short of the crucial §850 resistance, and now guess what....?

......it's another good time to short Bitcoin.

at least for the next few hours anyhow.

Oh, so you are just talking about daytraders? LOL. Good SHOTR opportunity 2-3 days ago, then rebound, now another good SHOTR opportunity? Sounds like day-trading to me.

But you can't be, because many of those threads are talking about long-term outlook, doom and gloom, bitcoin will fail in 2014! Your reply is incongruent with the content of many of these threads, which are indeed not talking about the day-trading opportunities.

So, I think it is YOU, MatTheCat, who is "slow of the mark"  ;D ;D ;D

No I think that is the point. people have been talking short for several days. I took a poll that shows most people are short. but the larger C wave correction in question has not come. time to cover your shorts? i think so!

people expect a big drop since up trend broke. this is a common mistake. doesn't mean a drop isnt coming. but people get unrealistic about the timing.

I don't really, I don't want people to lose the money. Just hate when someone is dicking around with such certainty in short time Bitcoin price movements, and specially same day in which he already lost 400$ doing the same stuff  ::)

Yeah, I guess it's mean to wish losses upon him :-P. Shorting bitcoin ends very badly for many people. And, stop-losses in bitcoin also end very badly for most - the volatility is truly unpredictable. Those who have done the best are those who HODL. It's a time-tested approach, it's worked for 4 years, and I see nothing to drastically change that *

*Except Proudhon's 100% confirmed chinese news source that says the PBOC sees bitcoin as a massive virus that will disrupt the entire global financial system, and they have millions of petahashes of power ready to deploy to attack the network.

Yes, and besides, most bulls (and bears) seems to pull these "predictions" out of their ass. Unless they use Proudhons' sources of course, then they will be probably 99.99% correct

Bitcoin is remaining at this price because speculators are not frenzy buying.

The most intriguing thing is that adoption is taking off like wildfire, but the price doesn't move.

That's because a legitimate valuation foundation is being built into the current price.

Maybe BTC wasn't really worth 1200 when it hit 1200.

But every day that goes by, $850 is less and less speculation, and more and more actual adoption.  Therefore actual value.

This means every day that goes by, the risk of BTC plummeting also plummets.

When will the price start to rise again?

When adoption/demand to purchase it outbalances availability of it.  That could be soon or in awhile.

I basically agree with all of this. The stages of adoption of bitcoin are becoming more and more obvious.

$100k on the first day on Overstock, then nothing.  My guess would be that no news means very low volume.  Also, that kind of adaptation wound kind of push the price of bitcoin down.

Maybe BTC wasn't really worth 1200 when it hit 1200.

My guess would be that Silkroad was working just fine when the price of Bitcoin was $2.

But every day that goes by, $850 is less and less speculation, and more and more actual adoption.

It's all speculation.

When will the price start to rise again?

Why do you think it would rise?

I'm starting to become increasingly suspicious of Chinese fake market data, even though i'm v bullish on the long run. Something is just not right.

I don't think it's necessarily fake. But zero trading fees make a couple of techniques involving buying/selling to yourself (or members of your "team") extremely cheap. Even without these, it becomes more attractive to scalp very small ranges which also increases volume. I still think these transactions are real in the sense that they are valid trades happening on the exchange between different accounts (not necessarily different people).

But with enough money, it's extremely cheap (compared to exchanges with fees) to make the market look the way you want, and create as much  volume as you want. If a whale sees a possibility to make money off of that (which I can easily believe exists), I'm sure they'll do.

So don't try to compare the volume to Gox or Stamp, don't believe it by the standards set by other "Western" exchanges. Still it might not be fake in the sense that the exchange is "creating" transactions that never happened.
