Title: Need Help with GAMING Desktop Upgrade Post by: btc-mike on January 20, 2014, 05:19:41 AM Looking to upgrade a desktop that is used almost exclusively to play minecraft (java based game).
Here is the current setup: Mobo = Gigabyte GA-78LNT-S2P CPU = AMD FX-6300 3.5GHZ GPU = Geforce GT 240 Hard Drive = Toshiba DT01ACA100 Power = 500watt Memory = 1 stick Corsair XMS3 8GB 1600MHz I was going to upgrade the memory to two matching sticks. Not sure what else. This machine will not be used for mining at all. Looking to keep it under $250. Title: Re: Need Help with GAMING Desktop Upgrade Post by: Lethn on January 20, 2014, 08:06:16 AM For Minecraft I don't think you even need much more than that and as you already have 8gb a RAM upgrade will hardly make a difference, the only reason to upgrade would be to buy a whole new high end PC like I'm planning on, also don't buy Alienware, their only selling point is their computer cases, like most pre-built computers they also do a crappy job of choosing computer components.
If you're only upgrading one component you'll just find yourself annoyed at the lack of change in the performance. Edit: Oh ffs, is this the new computer? Yeah that will run Minecraft fine, Minecraft doesn't really take that much to run, this is what I get for reading and responding to stuff when I'm half-asleep. Title: Re: Need Help with GAMING Desktop Upgrade Post by: btc-mike on January 20, 2014, 06:54:22 PM I know the current system is more than adequate. My son wants it "faster" and is paying for it.
