Title: Bitcoin mentioned on a TV show
Post by: jsimnz on January 20, 2014, 05:58:51 PM
I see lots of posts about 'How long till bitcoin comes up in a movie'.

Well we've reached a new milestone, bitcoin was mentioned in this weeks eps of Criminal Minds.
It was used a payment system for prostitutes, which obviously shows as to how the media views it, but at least it's something.

That particular milestone was reached ages (internet time) ago.

There was an entire episode of the good Wife dedicated to Bitcoin in 2011 (of maybe early 2012)

Edit: To slow  :-[

Thank you all for enlightening me.

Apparently I've been inhabiting the physical space directly below a rock.

Haha, that'd actually be a good task. I love The Apprentice and the twats on there. I wonder when the next series is?

Yeah it's always good viewing. Not sure when the next one is. I always love the introductions they give themselves right before making themselves look like idiots. 'I'm the alpha and the omega, I'm a lion and the next Apprentice'. Yeah...but do you own Bitcoin?  :P

Why aim for the sky when there's footprints on the moon? Why aim for the moon when there's a rover on Mars? Yeah, they're classic arrogant megalomaniacs, but you've got to be a twat/'character' to even get on there.

Series 10 has been pushed back till autumn because of the World Cup apparently. http://www.mirror.co.uk/tv/tv-news/apprentice-next-series-pushed-back-2652853

Haha, very true. Ah I see, I think the 'Kids Apprentice' or whatever it's called got cancelled too. Sugar was tweeting his annoyance about it.

Miniature tyrants in the making. Those little gobshites are even worse because they're just as arrogant as the pricks who are ten years older than them on the adult apprentice. Imagine what levels of douchebaggery they're going to be at in the future.

Yeah exactly! I honestly don't know how some people can be that full of themselves!

Bitcoin is well and truly the talk of the town whether it be TV, radio shows or the internet. Opinions remain varied but one thing is for certain, bitcoin is heading mainstream. Hold onto your hats boys and girls!

This should be the master topic all "mentioned on X" topics are merged to.

Heading mainstream - I tend to agree. But I'm not sure if you're inferring price is primed to rise because of that? I dont think it will personally. Not for some time yet.

Yeah I've never seen this either, do they use it for everything? Do they have the whole infrastructure set up? Or do we not get to see that stuff?

Really? Wouldn’t we have heard something already if it was the main currency? And I take it this is the US version not the UK?

I think bitcoins would gain more publicity if they were featured in a popular talk show, like in The Ellen DeGeneres Show for example. Maybe that would happen in the near future, who knows, right? And being featured in a talk show is more beneficial, because it also explains to people what bitcoins are about and how can they use them as compared to just being the subject in a scripted tv show.

Saw this advert on youtube and reminded me of this thread: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LKKfHm-RMVA

I think we're a long way off daily talkshows, but that would be good exposure. Not sure how interested Ellen or her audience would be. Best bet would be to get a celeb on there who is involved or invested with/in Bitcoin like Ashton Kutcher etc.

Don't know where you live. But here (Germany) it's sometimes in the TV (not shows of course, there are no  German TV-Shows to speak of).

Also, not interested? Germany is the 3rd biggest Bitcoin community, after US and Russia.

See: http://getaddr.bitnodes.io/

Germany has declared Bitcoin private Money, well before any hearings in the US.

Don't know about other European countries, though.
