Yeah, but you can't start threads in there now as it's been archived.

I suppose the logic was that it's now not needed since the newbie restrictions have been lifted.

I agree. Before I joined, I would go through the newbie section and it seemed like a good starting point. Now that I joined, I'm feeling a little overwhelmed and not exactly sure where to go to post my silly newbie questions. Lol ::)

That's why I think it's still a good idea. I reckon there's gonna be a massive influx of crap posted all over the other forums now, but I must admit it hasn't been as bad as expected so far.

When did they change this? Maybe just give it time and you'll be right? Lol

Guess it's a experiment. Well at least I hope. It could either good really well or really bad and our other sections may get filled with "Hi I'm new" threads. Or, it could reduce the amount of spam and off topic posts in the newbie section.

The newbie section was a good idea.  It was the CONFINING of all new members there for x posts and x hours that was not as brilliant as it could have been.

Newbie section was pretty useful, but I think that it was full of the same "Hi, I'm just writing my obligatory first post. Here is another sentence." type posts with the occasional "Why can't I reply on the other boards?" posts haha.

I guess we will see what the effects of removing that and newbie jail will do for the boards. If the moderators are sharp (with the help of the community) then any crap can be dealt with before it becomes a problem.

newbies section was so good, that provided new starters a place to talk and exchange ideas. old stuff may discuss difficult issues, new ones just touched some easy confusions. i thought most guys loved this section, what they hated is some kind of limitation but not this section.

If think there would've been an easier solution to that. As soon as you clicked to write a new post/ start a thread a few bulletpoint reminders come up before you're allowed to post:

  • You only need to make one post and browse for four hours
  • You do not need to start a new thread
  • Do not start a new thread just to say hi
  • Do not spam your referral links anywhere, put them in your signature
  • Don't post about alt coins here
  • blah blah blah etc etc etc.

Or just a friendly reminder for you to read the newbie readme where all this info could be found. I think that would've cut down half the threads in there.

This seems like a great solution!  Thanks to the mods for bringing it back.

Indeed. There always should be a section for new comers to ask simple question and receive simple answers.
