Many people has missed Bitcoin boat. Is bitcoin the end of the world ? I don't think so... :)
I believe in the near future there will be atleast 4 to 5 alternate currencies that will come close to the Bitcoin. So let's not miss these new boats !!

I am not an Economist. Following are speculations based on the info I gathered from different tech sources. This is an on going effort and I will be revising this list based on my findings. If you find this information helpful, don't forget to donate some BTC :). No trolling please !! If you believe in anyother innovative alt currencies, feel free to share in comments.

Ethereum is not a cloned alt coin, its a platform to create new decentralized services (Bitcoin 2.0). You can call it as an amalgamation of Mastercoin, Open Transactions, Namecoin etc..  It helps in creating DAC (Decentralized Autonomous Corporations) called Contracts which you can code using C like language using BlockChain technology. Virtual coins value are reflective of what anyone is ready to pay for them. And to pay for something it needs to add value. If it doesn't then its a simply btc clone and the question needs to be asked - Is the coin good enough to usurp btc? If not, then its not going anywhere. This actually filters most of the current coins and future coins too. Even LTC, though some like to call it silver compared to gold of btc. It certainly is not going anywhere.

Out of the two suggestions Ethereum is a good contender. So, is mastercoin and PTS.

Though the next big thing will probably be, zerocoin with its anonymity raised to another level.

Thats a big statement to make .. cause this chikun is going to the mooooon lolz.

it is certainly not when you compare it to btc as the next big thing.  while others like mastercoin, pts et al have the ability to  reach btc price if they actually implement their ideas correctly.

Me thinks your underestimating the irrational exuberance of the markets .. besides some of the ideas in something like mastercoin may well be incorporated in btc in the future.

Guys, mastercoin is not a alt coin it's a protocol layer on top of bitcoin. 

But yes, mastercoin  can do alot of thing and it's a great protocol. and  can  be  used to  do  many different  things. Its future is bright.

the focus is going to be on btc and with mbtc coming into picture, if the wallets re-assign the decimal accordingly 1BTC = $900 as the gold standard, 1mBTC = $0.9 the silver standard. Media is too focused on btc and Satoshi. So not even sure where the irrational exuberance for LTC will even be born out of. On top of it, people are calling it silver compared to btc's gold itself is going to stop it from achieving the next big thing's tag.

The underlining factor on incorporation is "may". Not every coin/DAC being born out of btc fork is supposed to be incorporated in btc in the future. Mastercoin maybe, but ethereum or protoshare or zerocoin or even levelcoins too? Nope, not all of them are going to be incorporated.

Again IMO, if looking for the next big thing, look for something which adds value. If you find a coin which just acts as a value store like most of the coins out now,  then you already have BTC. No point in looking for others.

I fail to see the point of this coin. "Not so innovative" - IMO (compared to other shitty coins it has a one up but then again not much innovation and not needed at this point).

Its not an innovative coin hence I added it under Crazy Coins category. Because of Max Keiser's popularity, this coin will be mined to hell , difficulty will hit roof & prices will raise high before hitting the exchanges.

I fail to see the crazy coin category other than and the heading of "Next BIG thing that is going to happen in Crypto Currency World".

The properties of a coin are valuable to the tiny tech community that can read into it. The rest of it is in the marketing and assurances behind the coin.
Of course active community and active development are a must.

Yes, Marketing plays the main trick in crypto world. Keiser is a strong supporter of bitcoin from longtime. This coin has got good media attention after Coinye. This will stand next to DOGE because of Keiser's impressive statistics & fan-base.

MaxKeiserTV has 39K subscribers. His “personal” twitter handle has close to 91K followers and the Maxcoin “official” twitter handle has 4.2K followers.

I want this coin to die ... its an absolutely useless piece of gimmick ... bad for the crypto world.

Network hashrate is going strong. Currenlty at 94 Gh/s. Prediction is that it will go to 1000 Gh/s by next week.

I have been skipping many IPOs including the ethereum one. They have still not given any idea on PoW or how their code will eventually work. Many things yet to be discussed. Hence sitting on the sidelines, if things look good will buy during the initial release.
Btw for guys interested in Bitshares..it has been released now. Currently no. 7 on coinmarketcap.

Well surprisingly BTSX has taken off.  :o Reached number 3 and now at 4 on coinmarketcap. Even with double the coins of NXT, it had nearly reached 2X of the price.

Never heard of these two.  no one yet has hyped the two coins, they'd have to hire trolls troll box just to say "go go go Slockit or go go go Digix" to all exchanges sites troll box. And only then this coin can be noticed. Never heard of Decred which is developed by bitcoin devs themselves?

Exactly, but ya thanks to some members atleast we know that there exist these coins or else we will be ignorant and likewise miss the train ;D

I think a coin called ParkByte could be pretty big. It aims to have some very real use in the real world.

What are the uses of this coin as compared to Bitcoin which lacks?

Parking fees. Obviously bitcoin isn´t very suitable for that on account of the slow confirmation. And confirmation fees will be going up.

If you're not on Ethereum, then you've missed the Ethereum boat too. The upside is now not that much compared to the potential decrease in price.

Better look for newer 'hot' projects.

What about ADZ Coin it has good potential and it is getting good response, its project are well known and soon it will be linked to youtube . ADZ Coin is related to advertisement online technology. For long term it has got good potential.

I think the next big thing could be Halving.

At Halving, prices can rise high, but if it does not happen then we have to see whats the future for bitcoin.

I think even if the price dont jump it dont mean that the future of bitcoins is going to be bad.
