Title: Heavy duty plastic shelving for miners? Post by: llamabucket on January 22, 2014, 01:43:51 PM Hey everyone!
Newbie on the forums. :) I'm not new to mining, been doing it for a while (alt coins) and I'm setting up a new farm at the moment. I made custom aluminum frames for my first few rigs (https://i.imgur.com/jCj5mWA.jpg (https://i.imgur.com/jCj5mWA.jpg)) but now that I'm dealing with many rigs, I want to simplify and put them on shelving units. My debate is metal vs. plastic. I picked up some heavy duty shelves from Target, something like this: http://images.rasmuscatalog.com/Main%20Street%20Market/small/14912.jpg (http://images.rasmuscatalog.com/Main%20Street%20Market/small/14912.jpg) They're perfect for what I want! Easy to adjust and airy. However, I know people that have placed motherboards directly on plastic shelves only to have burned out four of them in a row. I'll definitely be using stand offs for whatever I choose but I'm wondering if you guys have any personal input for me? Pros and cons of using plastic or metal shelves? Anti static bags, grounding the rigs with copper wire and standoffs are some good ideas. Mounting on metal shelves will mean I still have to screw the standoffs into some sort of wood or metal sheet. I've narrowed it down to: Pros of plastic: light, easy to manipulate, cheap easy to mount motherboard, and no risk of shorting Cons of plastic: static Pros of metal: sturdy, no risk of static Cons of metal: expensive, heavy, risk of shorting, problematic to mount motherboard Here is an actual photo of the shelves (left side of photo): https://i.imgur.com/B75V8kM.jpg (https://i.imgur.com/B75V8kM.jpg) Thank you for any help in advance :) -llama Title: Re: Heavy duty plastic shelving for miners?
