Title: Is there a market for fairtrade, organic bitcoin clothing?
Post by: HowGudAmI on January 22, 2014, 06:19:47 PM
Hi.

I may have an opportunity to produce some bitcoin related clothing, before I start, I would like to do some research on the demand (or lack of) for it.

I understand there have already been numerous sales of bitcoin clothing (Just look here - http://www.zazzle.co.uk/bitcoin+tshirts - for example).

But, who would be interested in garments that are made to a very high quality out of fairtrade certified cotton?

If you think you might be interested, please let me know the answer to the following questions:

1. Would you want a plain design with a simple BTC logo, or something more 'designer'?
2. Would you be interested in a Tee, Hoodie, or other?
3. What kind of price would you be willing to pay for such an item?
4. What country are you located within?

Note that at this stage I am just researching opinions, if you have any other comment I would be happy to hear it.

I'm sure people would buy them as obviously there's a market for Bitcoin-branded clothing, but probably only if the prices are reasonable. Will fair-trade cotton/clothing be drastically more expensive?

Not drastically, but there will be a price premium over less ethically sourced cotton. See: http://www.fairtrade.org.uk/products/cotton/

We are probably looking at (this is very rough at this stage) a price of around BTC0.03 .

It will be operated as a form of 'group buy' in the sense that sales will be open over a fixed period of time, and then delivered once all orders are in (this allows a lower cost as the printing would be done in a batch and without risk of not actually selling them). If there is popular demand another batch can be run, or even a new design.

EDIT: Alongside being Fairtrade, it is also organic and made using wind power.

I prefer to get some Litecoin tshirts, particularly one with 'Litecoin to da moon' text on it

p/s: I hold a small amount of LTC though :)

That could be done if there is enough demand. Probably looking at a minimum of 20 units to ensure a low enough price though.
