Title: moving out with just $4000
Post by: accord01 on January 24, 2014, 03:42:59 AM
So say all I have is $4000.  Would it be suffice to survive on for 3 months?  1st and last month's rent plus 1 month.

Where? That wouldn't pay for a month in some places, but would leave you some wiggle rooms in others.

Do you know how much weed you can buy with $4K? I don't, hence asking.

You can make it work, but I suggest to find a quality room mate. Split the rent, etc.

Then put that money to work for you?  8)

Half of Mexico.

A hundred bucks in my town will get you enough to fill up two coffee mugs.

If you can be able to rent a studio type of room and you are expecting or if you actually have a decent job then you can manage to survive for like a month or 2. But if you don't have a job right now, then I guess it's time to start looking before you even think about moving out. It would suck if your money ran out and you don't have any job.

You should better tell us where you will be going because it depends on place to place still on an avg i would say cutting of on your few extra spending and finding a low graded house then it will be enough for 3 months !!! :)

Did you end up moving?

You still didn't tell us where you moved :) In the states people move with -4000$ bc they get a credit line to move

$4000 really is nothing for living on your own, as difficult it would be to accept, I would look at ways of using that money to dramatically increase your holdings before even considering living on your own, you also have to be prepared for the fact that cost of living is going to dramatically rise because of inflation.

4000 $ is good for living 3 months
renting a flat -> 250$ a month
bills ->~100$
350x3 = 1050
2950$ for food
if u dont cook , dinnner in china restaurant cost ~ 3,5$ * 90 = 315$

Yeah, but that's only 3 months, he needs to figure out ways of getting more passive income and the rent and food costs is likely to be ridiculous if he's going to live in a major city, your maths is way too optimistic :D

I would honestly suck it up and save up until you can really afford to move out, that's what I'm doing now, it can get really unbearable and claustrophobic at times so I know what it's like but it's better than being like everyone else and ending up with their parents a few months later because they can't pay the bills because that's seriously what is happening to everybody, don't move out until you have a good income you know you can keep going, you need to think in terms of 5 years or more not just a couple of months.

p.s. learn to cook no matter what, it will save you a lot of money

You can make it possible if you will control buying things which is not important, and just spend your money with things which is essential such as food, house rental fee, etc.

With my country, your budget is more than enough to stay for 6 months.

You can last about seven months here, either in a apartment, or the hotels in the bad neighborhoods. But that's down here in the South, so I wouldn't advise trying to go to the bad neighborhoods.

It would be nice if we had a general idea of OP's geographical location.
Near me 4k could easily last 3 months without one needing to find work,
and is A LOT more then most kids have before they do.

That is an amount of money in my country which some survive on for a year.

If you live in NYC or London I'd say you might struggle, in Bangkok I'd say you could last 6 months.

question is pointless without location

4k$ is enough for 1 year rent in my country too (not 3 bedrooms but I guess you would be fine with just one too :D)
