Title: Auction platform for goods based on bitcoins
Post by: TheMechanic on January 24, 2014, 10:54:25 AM
Hi guys,

I'm building a new auction site based on bitcoins.

I will start the private beta in 35days and currently I'm inviting for the private beta and giving away 6 month free accounts meaning that there will be no fees...

I need the feedback of the crowd that such an app is of interest - please go to http://www.meecoin.com and request an invitation. The goal is to have at least 100 requests to continue the development.

Personally I think that bitcoins are great and we need more apps and places to spend and earn them, please confirm that to me. Its the community which backs the bitcoins up, so please let me feel that my work is really needed and that you are out there!

the mechanic

P.S. I'm looking for investors!

When you read that please tell me what's in your mind about it! No response is the worst case. I would prefer some criticism!

what kinds of goods? why do call it a coin, instead of bitcoin-auctions or something similar?

Site needs more details, there is basically nothing there to say what kind of thing this it. Is it like ebay, like madbid, something else?

If it's like ebay, how do you handle the problem of escrow?

Also,

Where is it based and operated. Will it be based in the US and only be for US or another country or can it be available for sellers and buyers worldwide.

@coinrevo: The domain was free and the site is based on bitcoins but maybe I rethink the name. Thx for the response

@monsterer: Its like ebay but for bitcoins only. Madbid is an interesting idea but who sells all the stuff so cheap?
Escrow: buyer pays 100% to meecoin which in turn pays 50% to the seller in advance. seller ships the item. buyer releases the remaining 50%. That's what I think makes sense. What do you think?

@Jacko: Its based in Austria/Europe and is available for sellers and buyers worldwide.

This is a great idea, but posting should be free. The seller will only pay your fee if he effectively sells his stuff, right?

I was just thinking about this today.  Somebody SERIOUSLY needs to do something about eBay + paypal monopoly.

What about enabling users to confirm their ebay identity and import their ebay feedback?  Maybe by listing something on ebay thru their account for $1, allowing your auction site to "purchse" it and deliver the good (a fraction of a bitcoin \ a mailed form envelope) to confirm identity.

Being able to duplicate ratings from ebay could add a lot of value ....

@coinrevo: Your question made me think about a new domain name and here it is: http://freeZ1.com

@rdnkjdi: The community has the chance to beat these giants. In a couple of days I will post tasks to be done on http://freeZ1.com to become the number one platform. Stay tuned!

@countryfree: The service will be free both for sellers and buyers (fair use). Donations will be welcome.

Obvious problem with that is that seller can con 50% of the cost price from the buyer.

To fix this properly you need an intermediary postage address, or set of trusted forwarders which confirm that the goods have at least been sent on receipt of the bitcoins.

Of course, that still doesn't solve the problem of 'not-as-described' goods being forwarded to buyers, but that is also ebay's problem.

Cheers, Paul.

I think that's would be great like ebay but much work to make it globall like ebay and much problem with BTC that is not stable and also the auction will grow as the BTC grow so it can take much time to make it globall. that's my opinion but the idea is good though

Stealthman, the price could be bound to US$ or EURO and updated automatically. But since the platform should be "based" on bitcoins that topic is open for discussions. Personally I think it should not be bound to a more stable currency.

Are donations the only way you plan to earn profits?

You could tack on a minimal fee (0.001 BTC or less) for each purchase and offer additional services, like advertising your item/auction on the site.

Additional services are fine and should be available. The basic usage shall be free of charge. I believe that we can achieve an outstanding product with unique features so that the people are willing to support the platform just because they are so satisfied with it. I thought its up to the seller to choose an optional percentage of the final price to support the platform.

The level of donations might be an information shown along with the user account, but that's open for discussion.
