Title: Unlike Apple, Microsoft just approved my Bitcoin trading app!
Post by: Avalaxy on January 24, 2014, 09:49:15 PM
Big news: I built a Kraken app for Windows Phone 8. I recently added functionality that allows users to trade their bitcoins through the app, and Microsoft just approved this update! This is pretty big news because my app is the first and only bitcoin trading app for Windows Phone, and approving the update is kind of a big endorsement by Microsoft imho.

For those of you interested, here's the app: http://www.windowsphone.com/s?appid=a3857353-599a-434f-8293-398745723de6
And here's the thread about it: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=416005.0

Surprised you didn't put it on the biggest mobile market, Android.

Well, I'm a Microsoftdeveloper, I have a lot of experience in .NET/WinRT/Silverlight/C#/ASP.NET/etc. so it's not that surprising :) I'm also a Windows 8 and Windows Phone 8 user, got my dev licenses sponsored by Microsoft and I'm a Microsoft partner.

To be honest: developing for the WP8/Win8 platform is much, much better than developing for Android, it just lacks the users.

Apart from that: Windows Phone still lacks a lot of apps where the Play Store is really crowded. Whenever companies release an official app, the Android version is usually among them. I believe Payward will come with an official Kraken app for Android, so it would be a waste of my time if I developed my own app for Android because everyone would switch to the other app when it's released.

edit: just a quick note, Windows Phone is almost as big as iOS, I believe they're on par or even exceeded iOS in around 24 countries.

well, good thing you made it, but sadly i do use iOS. (I got my phone as a gift, i'd never buy any apple product myself, not because their products are bad, but because i loathe apple and their dictatorship policy).

it's my phone, i should be able to do whatever the fuck i want to do with it.

btw, i know not a single person who uses a windows phone, i know a shitton who use andriod though, and quite a few who use apple.

I am not a Windows Phone user, but nevertheless congratulations on your release. In bitcoinland we need as much diversity as we can get.

Congratulations to the OP in getting this app approved by the Microsoft overlords.

I am not a Windows Phone user or an iPhone user for the reasons stated above. Both IOS and Windows Phone / Windows RT are locked down platforms best suited for the telescreen application in George Orwell's 1984. I will argue that between the two Windows Phone / Windows RT is the better choice over IOS for the telescreens; however in the battle for the telescreen contract granted by the Ministry of Love, Apple has a huge lead over Microsoft.

I am not sure if this is an endorsement of Bitcoin on the part of Microsoft or a sign of desperation on the part of Microsoft. One must keep in mind here that both of these platforms and the values they represent pose a very significant security risk to Bitcoin at a very fundamental level.

it's the same as Apple love/hate things, the app is awesome, I hope the Apple realize that Bitcoin is used by their clients and stop limiting users to use their devices!

I congratulate the hell out of you, that's fantastic. Too bad however, that I don't know a single WP8 user to recommend this to.

It's because Apple censors too much, and they are developing their own payment system, and are afraid of BitCoin.

Wow that looks great, too bad I don't have wp8.
Can't wait for the android version.
It's good to know that microsoft isn't blocking the use of bitcoins.
Does the app also uses 2fa or only a pin or password?

It uses your API key. You can enter a 2fa password for your API key, that will work fine.

+1

Developing for the wrong platform if you want to get Bitcoiners using your app.

Didn't you read my reply to your first post? I already explained this. And who said "Android it lacks of users"? I've seen nobody say that.
