Title: P2P Social Networks and Bitcoin
Post by: Kolbas on March 09, 2011, 10:05:27 AM
Today P2P is not only the technology allowing people to share files. Today it is a new philosophy, new model of social relations, leading to freedom. And not only Bitcoin tells us about it. There are new P2P social networks in developement stage, like Diaspora and some others. What if try to communicate and cooperate with them? Such projects needs to work together, because it's the same idea and same movement in whole. Combining efforts will lead to increasing popularity, new people using Bitcoin and p2p social networks.

Might not be a bad idea. If Diaspora launches an app platform like Facebook did, maybe Bitcoins can be the Facebook Credits of Diaspora...

Diaspora is supposed to be open-source.  So if they don't use bitcoin, we will.

That is true. Nothing is stopping us from integrating it . :)

Oh cool. I haven't really poked around with Diaspora yet, so I didn't realize it was open source. Looks like they're up on GitHub:

I don't use social network tools anyway.  I don't get the point of these stuffs,  so I'll probably won't use Diaspora.

I'm pretty sure I'm not the only one.

I agree.  However, contemplating the idea of monetary incentive may help some people to establish potential interest in participation.  However, the profit opportunity would have to be substantial enough for all participants in order to be useful.  How to incorporate profitability in p2p social networking, I have no idea, but it's an idea that popped into my head.

I can't see any reason why the usual methods (advertising and paying for special content, whether that be on the network itself or in an add-on) couldn't be adapted for p2p networks.

I am looking into Witcoin, and I'm liking it so far, except for the sexting messages that pop up on the main page.  O.O  Uhm.... anyway, I like the overall concept of spending bitcents to do things like post messages, reply to messages, and vote up messages. :)  Since I'm dirt poor, I don't like the idea of spending everything I have if no one will read and reply to my own posts.  Usually get a lot of replies to my posts on other sites, I'm very active, and draw a lot of activity from others.  If I could earn bitcents for that, cool. :)

As long as I have to live in this capitalist system, which I dislike, I want Bitcoin to be my primary currency! :)

You mean corporatist fascists system, right? I mean we haven't had capitalism for at least the last 100years anywhere in the entire world.

What I'd really like to see with Diaspora is Ripple integration.
