Title: Bitmex/Derebit for noobs - Leveraged Trading. Longs and Shorts!
Post by: allmeat27 on May 28, 2018, 05:06:47 AM
Huge note: Bitmex is cracking down on it's no US users policy. You used to be able to sign up via VPN and it was fine if you never used the VPN again. Now, if you login using a US IP they flag you. This means you need to use a VPN every time you login. The new up and coming futures exchange is Deribit which I've started using instead of Bitmex. The volume is lower, BUT it doesn't have the "System Overload" problems that Bitmex does. The fees are also lower on Derebit.

Note, you do get 10% off fees if you sign up through a referral link. Feel free to use mine: https://www.bitmex.com/register/astVxa and https://www.deribit.com/reg-4025.4455, but even if you don't use mine, use someone's because it's 10% off fees, which adds up. You're literally throwing away 10% on every trade if you don't use a referral.

I kept seeing the Bitmex wrecked twitter thing and seeing mentions of leverage all over 4chan, but had absolutely no idea what it all meant. It also looked too complicated for me so I've always ignored it. Got bored today and it's actually much simpler than it seems. There's a ton of guides that go super in-depth and those made absolutely no sense to me, so I'm going to explain it from an idiot's perspective.

First of all, the draw of Futures Exchanges is you can do what's called Leveraged trading. In the simplest terms possible, it means you multiply your percentage gains/losses. If you go 10x leverage long on bitcoin and bitcoin gains 1%, you gain 10% more money. This is super cool for impatient people like me because it allows you to trade more actively without getting wrecked by fees, and it's ridiculously exciting.

Again, both Bitmex and Derebit don't allow US users, so unless you're outside the US, you need to register under a VPN (and continue using VPN on Bitmex, Derebit should just be register under it and you're done). I use NordVPN and it's only $3 a month.

Once you're registered, deposit some BTC into your Bitmex/Derebit wallet. When you first open the trade screen it's going to look super complicated. It's not.

Buying Long on a coin means you expect it to go up. Buying short on a coin means you expect it to go down. Playing those buys works like any other Exchange (i.e. Binance). You can set a limit price to buy in at and an amount. to buy.

Now you want to pick your leverage. In the menu below that, there's a slider. Again, each multiplier of leverage means every 1% = your leverage multiplier. 1% gain with a 25x leverage means 25% gain. I would start with 2x/3x leverage until you get a good handle on things.

The Cost number below the buy long/buy short number is the big one here. With leverage, you're essentially putting loaned money toward a coin. With 10x leverage, you can buy 1 BTC even if you only have .1 BTC (this is why the percentage gains are so drastic). However, this means you can lose it as well.

Let's say you bought 1 BTC at $10000, Long at 10x leverage (So you put in $1000). If BTC dropped 10% to $9000, you would lose all $1000 you put in. If it went to $11000, you would gain $1000 and double your money. Bitmex will auto "liquidate you" if you drop too far and don't have any more money to cover (10x leverage means if it drops more than 10% you lose all the money you put in. 25x leverage means if it drops more than 4% you lose all your money).

You can change orders on the fly and constantly adjust. Let's say BTC raised to $10100 (1%). You could then sell your long order and you will have gained 10% and now you can invest your $1100.

Note, on Derebit, each contract is $10 rather than $1, meaning a 10,000 contract order on Bitmex is the same as a 1,000 contract order on Derebit.

Like I said, there's a ton of guides out there that go into the more fancy TA and ways you can adjust orders, but this should provide a quick overview to get you started. They have a testnet site where you can practice with fake money first as well.

Riskiest option you choose if you do margin trading on any exchange specially on bitmex with x100 leverage .
people thing one right move will turn their 100 bucks into 200 with just 1% difference in predicted trend . but it is totally gamble , margin trading should be done with low leverage . i tell you reason why .

suppose you have 100 usd only on bitmex and do long btc at 7100usd at x100 leverage , after 15 mins btc dip upto 7015usd  and later it bounce back to 7400 usd . bcoz you had only 100 usd so in that case your order will be liquidated at 7029usd (1% of 7100 at x100 leverage) . even after choosing a right move you lost it just bcoz 1% dip .
correct me if i am wrong .

You are correct, but thats why I suggest using Cross leverage. If you have 100 USD on bitmex, only bet $20 of it. This will mean it can dip to 6850 (napkin math) before you lose your entire balance, but you can lose more than the $20 you put in. Check the tips thread for a full explanation.

Long worked out great. Lots of money to be made in these areas since it's bouncing back and forth constantly.

Thanks for the interesting and informative review and comments about Bitmex.  It sounds exciting and dangerous, one could win a lot and also lose a lot.  Don't know if I'm up for that level of action but am going to check it out!

Unless you are an experienced trader I wouldn't touch leverage trading, it's very easy to get burned. There are plenty of people who lost on their portfolio's and tried to make up leverage trading on Bitmex. People that gambled away their livesavings and that of their family, people indebted because of a leverage trading addiction.

If you're a noob, then don't even bother with Bitmex or leverage trading unless you have a history of day-trading and feel confident you're up for it.

I am one example of your words. When the market was going down I saw how the capital decreased, but could not do anything, then I learned that you can play on the decline and decided to try and before you learn to spend 20% of its capital on the elimination. Now I trade only with stop loss and a small laverage

I'm pretty sure that referral links are not allowed on this forum. Best to take it out to ensure this thread or your account doesn't get red flagged because you can never tell when a DT member is raging and would want to take out some anger on your account.

That being said, info on leveraging is good. As usual, caveat! Invest wisely and only what you can lose.

I would but I do scalping rather than big moves, so it's like 10-15 trades a day. My suggestion would be find a good TA discord and make "theoretical" trades or play on test net until you feel comfortable.

Was VERY wrong about up. Use stop losses! Thinking 6500 is now resistance, longing to that.

Got close to 6500, but looks like it's back down for now. I'm in a quick long from 6050, but tight SL. Think its dump at 6150.

I've been watching tutorials some time ago, tried the demo account and still could not quite get it. The only thing I could understand is that if you're unsuccessful on ordinary exchanges, then there's nothing to do here. Would like to try out 100x however with some small amount, but it has nothing to do with trading, more like a gamble.

It's a calculated gamble. Even if you constantly make 60/40 decisions you still come out on top. Over time, you'll develop your own strategy for what works for your psyche. It's just as much mental as it is technical.

BitDEX trading floors take security seriously. They store all the money in versatile wallets that only allow access if most partners allow. Just as cold wallets are hidden away from the reach of potential hackers. That is the feature of the BitMEX trading platform we should trading longs

Although leverage is a very risky bet, it is better to bet on betting sites, and with a bit of timing it is possible to make a profit. The problem is greed, knowing the time to stop is important because it can become an addiction.

Investing with big leverage is not really for newbies and you need a lot of skill to succeed in that form. I have also invested in Bitmex with leverage over x10 and the results are quite good but recently when the market was volatile I was no longer involved in this form of investment.

Got pretty lucky and managed to profit on the quick downswing and then flipped to a long and caught this up swing. Super good day today. I think we'll see a retest of 6200 then back up for a bit, maybe 6.5 or something. We'll see how it goes, but definitely leaning long after a small retrace.

Another good day. Basically my strategy the last two days has been to find good entry points and then set smaller orders up to $100 passed that point. Even when I miss the entry really bad, it's eventually retracing way passed each one and I've done pretty well. Will likely get caught in one one of these times, but hoping this continues for sure!

I agree to this one for you to succeed on margin trading here in crypto world you have to a lot of knowledge in trading and all about cryptocurrency because if you are lack of knowledge and try your luck their for sure you money will be loss easily once you get leverage in your trade there. Leveraged trading of cryptocurrencies is just trading forex and I'll advise anyone that wants to venture into it to master some TA as it's very easy to get rekt with leveraged trading. Experience has taught me some lessons. I once lost over $1400 when ventured into trading with the requisite skills.

Note, you do get 10% off fees if you sign up through a referral link. Feel free to use mine: http://bitmex.com/register/BCCNeF , but even if you don't use mine, use someone's because it's 10% off fees, which adds up.

First of all, the draw of Bitmex is you can do what's called Leveraged trading. In the simplest terms possible, it means you multiply your percentage gains/losses. If you go 10x leverage long on bitcoin and bitcoin gains 1%, you gain 10% more money. This is super cool for impatient people like me because it allows you to trade more actively without getting wrecked by fees, and it's ridiculously exciting.

well
thank a lot for explanation
i hate bitmex for now .
its just like gambling.
better traditional trading ,i guess
also better you going to blackjack if u want quick money or quick burned.

I wanted to try leveraged trading but it's just like forex and extremely risky. You can get nice gains but if you get liquidated you lose it all. I know most people are making money by shorting the market, hence we are getting these market crashes all the time in 2018, this and the bitcoin futures is causing all the downside and downtrend. As soon as the prices go up again, all the shorters here just squeeze out any little profits, so small retail investors and holders now in crypto are the biggest losers. 2017 will never come back to us again that's for sure, now everyone can short Bitcoin without even owning it.

Yeah i burned my hand in Bitfinex and lost a total worth of 80 ETH? Which i actually earn it through investing in potential ICO and hold for months
But i lost my 80 ETH within weeks lul

Leverage trading is really something which can either make you bank or make you blank

Agreed, no matter how hard I tried, it looks more like a lottery to me. Sometimes I was right with my bets but I was getting kicked out with my stop-losses so frequently that I finally gave up. Tomorrow Bitfinex is going on technical maintenance, so there is going to be some heavy manipulation once again.

Took profit at 6425 and flipped to short. Likely a short term play.

I know this kind of investment. This is a game that has a huge impact on the market. This game is called Margin and it makes the market lacks stability. Whales usually control the market and control this game. Whoever invests heavily in these games, whales are willing to manipulate the market to make a profit from this game. Very dangerous and hope everyone should avoid these games!

Sitting out for a bit. Would like another long at 6325 or so. Or may short 6450.

Insanely boring last couples days. I'm betting on a quick drop then a climb ,but I have no idea when or how much.

I know about this game and this game has killed hundreds of people in my country. This is true and I advise that new investors should not participate in this type of investment. Some information I know is that whales are willing to manipulate the market just to win the player who bets high. Be careful and stay away from these types as soon as possible.

bitmex is not for noob places, there is a place of exchange too so there is very suitable for trading because the movement is very crowded and the fees there are not too expensive so you should be able to use the exchange as best as possible.

Post by: michellee on October 31, 2018, 04:34:18 AM
It's too difficult to trade on bitmex because it's different than the other exchanges and it's not recommended for noobs. In bitmex, you need to have skills to trade because it's leveraged trading which you will get a big loss if you make a mistake to determine the movements of the coins. So I think it's better to trade on the other exchange like bittrex, poloniex, binance.

Really wish I did 6215 instead of 6200. Missed the jump. Not sure what is happening next. I think it should have pumped higher so now I'm skeptical.

Almost longed 6330 as things were looking juicy but felt too risky :(

This still looks like it has some room to go. Maybe 6550?

Title: Re: Bitmex for noobs - Leveraged Trading. Longs and Shorts!
Post by: allmeat27 on November 06, 2018, 05:17:45 AM
6550 still seems possible, but 6420 seems to be a bit of a block. Scared to long here in fear of a quick 6050 drop. Sitting out tonight for sure.

Sometimes I wish I listened to my own calls. Currently short at 6520 rather than 6550 like I should be!

I opened a short at 6315 and exited all my alt coin positions last night. This seems obvious to retest the lower 6000's again. Will keep an eye to see if anything changes my mind.

Well I was 100% right but jumped back in way too earlier. Very surprised it went this low. Should bounce back to 6k but who knows at this point.

You can earn a lot and lost all of your money on bitmex. 100x leverage isn't a joke and when big position is closing, there is a spike.
There might be a big difference between bitmex and other exchanges

I got absolutely blasted. Wrecked multiple times. Lesson learned, quit trying to catch the bounce. I'm making smaller, quick trades right now because I have absolutely no idea where this is going. I'm hoping for another 4k test.

Took a bit of a hiatus. Bitmex cracked down on US users and the uncertainty of it made me pause a bit. I'm still using Bitmex a bit, but had to make new accounts.

I've switched primarily to Derebit (https://www.deribit.com/reg-4025.4455 for 10% off fees!). The fees are less there and there's no System Overloaded crap. However, the volume is much lower so it takes some getting used to.

Looking to long 3250 here.

Need to do a better job updating this! Been getting used to Derebit and not having to worry about system overload, has definitely altered mytrading strategy!

The long at 3250 was great, but took profit WAY too early. Currently playing swings. Possibly looking for a relong at 3650ish.

it looks like bitmex has very high price manipulation and lots of traders are trapped there, preferably for new traders who don't understand bitmex it's better not to use too much of your money to trade there.

Leverage trading is like poker.. You can win a couple times, but on the end of the road you will lose eveeythin.. Dont trade with the money that you dont have..
Stop-loss strategy will not help you..

I learned my lesson 10 years ago with forex trading..
I was making good money and fast, but after a while i start beginning losing and lost everything..

Buy for a good price with the money that you have and hold.. If there is a bullrun look at the market if there is enough interest then hold untill the top and sell before the panic starts.. The trick is selling before everyone else and buying when everyone else sold and the last guys are standing to hold. If you can analyse that you can make money in this crypto market..

Why does everybody use bitmex for margin trading? You can use 10x-20x leverage on futures , you don't need to pay high comissions and they have application on mobile

I know that without a doubt the intention behind the OP is good, but leverage trading is not for newbies I will say that leverage trading is not even for traders with some experience, you need to have several years of experience before using such a dangerous tool especially in the market of cryptocurrencies were the volatility is already incredibly high and could make you lose all your money in a matter of hours.

Deribit has been so much better than Bitmex (at least for non-US traders). I have realized some shorts there recently and the market seems less manipulated and tricky for newbies.
