Title: Happy Paranoia Day!
Post by: NghtRppr on September 12, 2011, 06:40:37 AM
Here's one story...

Police temporarily detained and questioned three passengers at Detroit's Metropolitan Airport after the crew of a Frontier Airlines flight from Denver reported suspicious activity on board, and NORAD sent two F-16 jets to shadow the flight until it landed safely, airline and federal officials said.

The crew had reported that two people were spending "an extraordinarily long time" in a bathroom," Frontier spokesman Peter Kowalchuck said.

The three passengers, who were taken off the plane in handcuffs, were released Sunday night, and no charges were filed against them, airport spokesman Scott Wintner said. FBI Detroit spokeswoman Sandra Berchtold said authorities determined there was no real threat.

Here's another story...

The man was stopped about 9:30 a.m. at the Southwest Airlines checkpoint at Kansas City International Airport. Transportation security agents who detected suspicious items in his bag asked to examine them, and he was detained when he refused, airline and law enforcement officials said.

The suspicious items tested negative for explosive materials, according to a statement from the Transportation Security Administration. A bomb squad and bomb-sniffing dogs remained on the scene Sunday afternoon, and passengers were being rescreened.

FBI spokeswoman Bridget Patton declined to say what the man was carrying, but she said the bomb squad used a high-pressure water force to disrupt the package, allowing for evidence to be preserved.

May I examine your items? No? Alright then, I'll just detain you and blast them open with a water hose. Have a nice day, citizen.

Taking a dump on an airplane? Here's your handcuffs. Have a nice day, citizen.

God bless America. Land of the sheep. Home of the slave.

meh. 10th anniversary of 9/11. id bet my third nut that there was credible intel on an attack happening today.

i am no fan of the patriot act OR tsa (in fact, i have been extremely vocal against both in my private life) but i can certainly understand extra security today.

Taking a dump on an airplane?...

...

It was two people, they weren't taking a dump, they were joining the mile high club.

It's not clear to me that being somewhat paranoid on 9/11 was irrational or inappropriate. Frankly, it should continue for a few more days, as I'm sure terrorists are aware that once a sigh of relief is breathed at the anniversary's passing, everyone will let their guard down a little.

"One passenger became ill, another went to check on him, and there was never more than one person inside the restroom at any time."

Do you also think that it was appropriate to take someone of an airplane in handcuffs for "using the bathroom too long"?

I wasn't there. It might have been inappropriate. These are the actions of a few individuals assessing a situation, which are neither an argument for or against heightened security yesterday. Each situation is unique, as are the participating individuals.

Yes, it might have been.

Yes, it might have been.

And you're certain the rights of others will never get tread upon in your ideal world?

Ideal worlds exist only in fantasy. Try focusing on reality.
