The newbie will has a lot of mistakes. I also lost a lot of my money when i learn to trade. But after that, i have the experience and deeply understand about the trend and the time to buy and sell. The important thing to learn is in crypto, never belive and give the private key for anyone, keep the emotion and dont FOMO. btw, the traders also have the luck.

Holding is not really the best strategy as recommended by you. Traders have been doing shorting to make good money on daily basis and they have been successful with this.
Holding works for coins that have good market cap and would increase in a stable way over time. For example BTC and ETH. For other coins, holding is risky and it is better to do shorting more than holding long term.

Buying for a long term is a good method but you also need to check and look at your portfolio..You should check your altcoins once a day at on coinmarketcap. Buy and forget a good method but it is necessary to check your assets.

Then you have the other side of trading which is using your own knowledge and experience, some of that experience will have be earned by actually loosing money along the way ( consider this a tuition fee of the University of Trading)

Along with Patience, a very important emotion you must have is infact "Zero emotion"...  What I'm trying to say is:  The more emotional (afraid, worried, anxious, tense or even happy, glad, excited) the less you are in control of the trade, the trade is more in control of YOU! You don't need to attend special courses online or even offline because you can just sit in front of your computer and then search for some of the information that you are looking for and then you can see a lot of results where you can start reading and you can also do some searching in youtube which can help you a lot.

Learning in a youtube channel is fine but at the same time take the time to try to learn from books, learning form videos is a very slow process and learning is already a very slow process and you do not want to take more time than necessary to learn a lesson.

yes it is because cryptos are volatile . they can fluctuate according to thier own preference and not because people want , but still creating your own strategy is way more better when compared to trading it randomly .  even in gambling that luck is mainly involved , there were still people who insist to create thier own strategy or method/patterns just to possibly win the game and they did , i know because i was also one of those people who uses a strategy on everything that i do .
