Title: CPU mining
Post by: pastet89 on January 28, 2014, 04:26:10 PM
Hi,

I am pretty new to mining and wanted to ask, is it true, that CPU mineable coins like Quark for example can be mined only with usual PC, and if yes, what makes the mining more efficient, more CPU core frequency or what?
Is it true that these coins can not be mined with ASICs and GPUs? As I have heard different info on this, as GPUs can still be used.

Thanks.  :)

Imo the best CPU coin now, which can be mined only with CPU is Primecoin (XPM) - I'm mining it with my Athlon II X4 3.5Ghz (overclocked). It is slow, but still I'm making smth - the more threads/cores your CPU has will determine how many coins you will make a day. You can try to mine Datacoin too, which is Primecoin clone. Almost 99% of the rest CPU "only" coins already have a GPU miners, so u decide :)

does an amd 9370 handle xpm better than a 4770 ?  just thinking that the amd has 8 cores whereas the 4770 has 8 threads but only 4 physical cores ... couldn't find anyone mining on 9370 XPM so cannot say anything about results since they vary greatly to a cpu synthetic benchmark.
