Starting with empty block... fast diff adjustment etc. Sure you can do that with cpu coin too... @ least coin will be protected from auto switching pools... When actual launch comes everything will probably have been reset anyway and restarted. Simple fact is it was not a launch. It was a show explaining to people about crypto coins. Max coin was used as an example. For Max coin it was a great PR opportunity. Now they can get on with actual launch..
