Title: Stimulating with the help of +Merit
Post by: enaj825 on June 01, 2018, 06:33:23 AM
Can I ask for merit?

There is no need to do this and this behaviour is usually seen as 'merit begging' which is frowned upon by the community and may lead to you receiving negative feedback. Keep making quality, constructive posts and you will surely be rewarded over time.

I made this thread for discussion so as to test the above statement relative to the following threads, THE TABLE OF NEW BOUNTIES (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=3307997.0) and THE TABLE OF NEW SIGNATURES (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=3998963.0) both started by a user, tvplus006 (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=1311641).

In the opening post of those threads, there's a line there that I would like to solicit clarification and/or opinion whether it's some sort or form of "Merit Begging". If is NOT and it is allowed, therefore, we can use it too in order to get or accumulate merits like tvplus006 (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=1311641) did in his bounty threads and on his website, http://bounty.slavyansk.biz and http://bounty.slavyansk.biz/signatures.php.

Below are the quoted portions of the two threads as well as website links once the +Merit there is clicked it will lead to 'Merit a post'...

*you can stimulate regular updating of the table with the help of  +Merit (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=merit;msg=34520392) or any kind word :)

IMO, It's a direct way of begging for merits (deserves a negative rating).

Always remember to use a "web capturing service" like https://archive.fo/ (to archive its pages).

It's my belief too, but when I questioned him below is his reply (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=3307997.msg38714758#msg38714758),

In my post it’s written: “You can”, but not “Give me”. Bounty hunters give me merits because I work on this table for a long time and it’s high-quality.

I knew that you are not a Newbie :)
It's not clear why you started hunting for me. I'm doing a bad table for the community?
I removed it - if it's not legal

No, but when you do it for the wrong reasons (expecting something in return [directly/indirectly]), that's bad.

What you had in your post, could have been counted as "indirect begging" but the way you made it bold and changed its colors, it's too much.
- On top of that, you had "+Merit" hyperlinks on both tables (IMO, that's direct enough).

I removed it - if it's not legal
Good.
