Title: KeyScrambler
Post by: Kouye on January 29, 2014, 11:05:06 PM
I paid for a 3 computers (premium) licence of this (apparently fine) soft:
http://www.qfxsoftware.com/ks-windows/which-keyscrambler.htm

Then asked:

Code:
Hi,

I (very) recently bought a premium version of your KS software, and was wondering about the "3 computers" feature.
Can I forward the key you sent to me to 2 friends?

Cheers!

And received, less than 2 hours apart:

Code:
Hi,

Sorry, licenses cannot be shared with friends. The three computers must be all within the same household or all be owned by you.

Please let us know if you have any additional questions, and thank you for being our customer.

Best regards,

Qian

Kinda disturbed by the answer content and signature, and considering unistalling it now.
Any opinion?

The answer and signature look reasonable to me.  It looks like they didn't specify it, and just assumed, people would know they were buying a single user license to install on computers they own; which is common.  If you want to get technical about it, and their T&Cs don't say otherwise, you could probably argue your case though with CC company etc.

If you want to install on friends PCs and bypass their intentions, then you need to pretend your friends PCs are your own and follow that procedure.

PS - their software is probably slightly outdated.  It won't help you against modern browser based attacks, but may do if you are using applications that have not specifically been targeted.
