Title: Russia 2018, another turning-point to the Crypto-community?
Post by: The Goodman on June 01, 2018, 03:07:07 PM
Come 14th June 2018, the world's biggest sporting event, the FIFA World Cup, will kick off in Russia. People from all walks of life will travel to Russia to witness this unique event. To some, this is an opportunity to be there, irrespective of whether their country has qualified or not.
Russia, as we all know, is one of the prominent countries that accepts the use of cryptocurrencies. For this reason, many hotels, restaurants, bars, night clubs, camping sites, tourists sites etc, will definitely make bitcoin a means of payment.
So, could Russia 2018 be an opportunity for cryptocurrencies to spread further far and wide? Could this be an opportunity for cryptocurrency to be made known to those who currently have no idea?
And could this be considered as another turning point to the crypto-community?

I have always harbored the feeling that this event will make crypto more popular and take it to another level. The only thing that we wish for is for the event to move on smoothly without any hindrance because we now live in a world where there are a lot of threats from other countries. People will definitely run out of cash due to certain reasons, and others will prefer a digital form of money as compared to physical cash due to security reasons. This i think will make cryptos popular in Russia for this event.

Yes I am also of the opinion as expressed by you.  FIFA is big event and that too in country like Russia where crypto currency is accepted will boost the currency of bitcoin.  Prices will also effected may be upwards.

I totally agree with your point about security issues being a main threat to this event. Things of that sort are usually unpredictable. But you would also agree with me that this is a global event and Russia will not take it lightly because it can easily dent the reputation of the country should this happen. Their military system is not weak and we all know that. So i think they would have started preparing for this event as long as you and i can imagine. But all the same, anything can always happen. So lets just hope and pray that the event moves on smoothly.

No, it's nowhere near that status.

For this reason, many hotels, restaurants, bars, night clubs, camping sites, tourists sites etc, will definitely make bitcoin a means of payment.

Assumptions...

Unfortunately, no, no and no.
A lot of people expected something from the Olympics in Rio (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1102662.0), a lot from the EURO 2016, yet...nothing happened.

Events like this are not going to affect the price anymore. Those are not the times of a Nascar and Superbowl ads.

It sure could be but I doubt any real rise will come of it. Maybe some people will use cryptos but I doubt it will cause a huge flair in crypto usage. I think the Olympics would be a better suited venue to increase awareness.

Why do you think so? In Russia there is not yet a wide application of crypto-currency, and the laws on the crypt are still being adopted. The FIFA World Cup is a massive event attracting a lot of tourists. There are many interesting attractions  In Russia that are worth seeing in addition to the World Cup. To my mind this event will not affect the development of the crypto currency.

I also think that the impact might not be so pronounced except FIFA makes an official declaration for the adoption of Bitcoin or if the community was proactive in coming up with ways to incentivized the buying of tickets, food, accommodation, etc with Bitcoin.

I do not think that the World Cup in Russia will somehow significantly influence the spread of crypto-currencies in this country. We should not forget that while in Russia there are no regulatory legal acts on the regulation of the crypto currency and in general, although the definition of its status, and in its State Duma there are several controversial bills, including the establishment of criminal liability for the use of crypto currency as a means of payment. Therefore, it is unlikely that bitcoin and other types of crypto currency will be used very widely. If it does, it will be isolated cases.

if those mentioned hotels bars and other places are the ones who attract tourists and have a sign there about crypto then definitely it will help the crypto community to grow more and become acceptable as there are so many tourist and the most importatn thing they are not poor.

I don't think so.
Maybe it would mean something for the mass adoption of crypto if they hand out the rewards in BTC instead of $ or Eur.

Meanwhile, in Russia there are only a few days before the adoption of the long-awaited documents in the innovative digital sphere. Already in the coming Tuesday, May 22, the first reading of the draft laws on crypto currency and crowdfunding will take place in the State Duma. In the first document, the notion of a "digital field" is fixed, the second is devoted to crowdfinding, and the third determines the general conditions for organizing the initial placement of coins (ICO) and the turnover of Fiats.

I suspect there will be an increase in prediction market products launching before WorldCup so that one can start betting on football matches with crypto. Although not sure how this add to the image of crypto if real life usage is gambling and porn.;)

Russia is definitely not a crypto-friendly country. Very recently, the Russian government is targeting ICOs and are trying to eliminate the spread of bitcoin usage stating that it mght cause some negative effects to their citizens. On a side note, they are looking to develop their own crypto which seems to be ironic on their stance against cryptocurrencies. Anyway, in regards to the FIFA world cup, most attendees are only there for the matches, and the very little crypto usage migt take place. It is indeed a big event but not the right one to inform the public about cryptocurrencies.

The world cup is far bigger than the Olympics, so why do you prefer that event to the world cup? Lets consider the country that will host it too, is crypto accepted in that country? I agree with you that the change may not be significant, but if there should be an event that will bring a change, then it should be the world cup.

First, Russia is not "crypto-progressive", in fact their government was very critical towards cryptocurrencies in the recent years, and many officials were calling for bans. It may be possible that they will actually ban most cryptocurrencies in the future and will only allow "tame"  cryptocurrencies like Ethereum.

There will be no massive adoption or use during the world cup, people would still be using fiat because it will be more convenient and faster. Cryptocurrencies are accepted only in few places, users need to usually wait at least a few minutes to get confirmations, merchants might be afraid about volatility and unclear legal status and so on - there are many obstacles and the benefits are not worth it for most people.

Russia 2018, may be another turning-point of the crypto-community. FIFA is going to be hosting a big tournament in Russia. And as long as it is legitimate in Russia, it is legitimate. So this will have an impact on its debt through FIFA. Bitcoin demand and usage and exchange will increase.

I  believe it too .somehow this event could be another way to promote cryptocurrency currency.since Russia accepted bitcoin..the event will be great help to the community ..

People all over the world will go there not only to see the world cup but also for vacation. Their will be huge money flow and people won't take fiat currency in their luggage. For security purpose and for convenience transaction crypto currency will be used abundantly which will give a positive impression in this sector.

The State Duma adopted in the first reading three draft laws on crypto-currencies. They define digital money as "other property", coins will not be recognized in Russia as a means of payment. Mining is proposed to be taxed, and the organizers of ICO will have to sign an agreement with each investor.

As for Russia, I will say the following. I do not think that at the world championships someone will create the opportunity to accept payments in cryptocurrencies for a simple reason - the demand for services and goods will be high without it. But, of course, there will be exceptions.
As for the adoption of the crypto currency this is not so simple. If you read the bill, it does not have the concept of a crypto currency as we used to see it. The state wants wallets to be attached to individuals for control purposes. Regulator at its discretion can limit the number of tokens bought by people and much more.

Sorry i doubt, even though many merchants accept bitcoin as the payment method at that event but seems like people prefer to hold their bitcoin instead of spending them, on the other hand, they will likely to pay the hotels with the cash or credit card as I can see in some biggest events before. I don't mean to spread the negative vibes here people see bitcoin nowadays as an investment tool.

Russia has received bitcoin in the country as a means of buying and selling transactions, and this year the world cup is being held in Russia and hopefully it will affect the value of bitcoin and hopefully there will be an increase.
because the whole world knows and definitely uses bitcoin and it will ease deals as long as they are in ruisa.

As in the Op, the upcoming event can add more users to the cryptocurrency network. Russia being a prominent part of cryptocurrency will surely use different strategies to fulfill all set of people from different nations. In this regard can see more acceptance for Cryptocurrency for their needs. Maybe that could be a break point for bitcoin by the ongoing year to grow further and reach much higher value.

I honestly find it strange that people keep on talking about Russia World Cup and bitcoin since there is absolutely no relationship between the two. Russia is not one of those countries with that much bitcoin adoption, specially not as a currency. bitcoin is legal over there and there are a lot of investors from Russia but that doesn't mean there will be some effects on bitcoin just because World Cup is there. it could have been true only if there were merchants over there accepting bitcoin payment. for example if the hotels, the airlines, the tickets to the games,... were being sold for bitcoin but since that is not the case here then there is no relationship either.

Russia, as we all know, is one of the prominent countries that accepts the use of cryptocurrencies. For this reason, many hotels, restaurants, bars, night clubs, camping sites, tourists sites etc, will definitely make bitcoin a means of payment.

Lol, its Russia, not Japan, S. Korea or even China. 99% of people here never heard about crypto, not to mention making transactions or accepting payments by crypto. And all payments in foreign currency and in crypto are officialy forbidden by Russian government. It means if you try to make a payment by crypto here you probably should have problems with police and "kazaky" :D. Its funny to see how btctalk users fantasizing in this topic because its soo far away from todays reality.

Not just in those countries but all around the world is the same story. Probably 10% of world population has heard about crypto and only few 1-2% do the trading. Future is bright.  ;D

strongly agree with your opinion on the security issues that are the main threat to this event. Such things are usually unpredictable. But you will also agree with me that this is a global event and Russia will not take lightly because it can easily damage the country's reputation if this happens. Their military system is not weak and we all know it. So I think they will start preparing for this event as long as you and I can imagine. But all these same events will not affect the development of crypto currency.

Russia is building a position for Bitcoin and other digital coins as part of efforts to reduce the risk of money laundering. While Russia's final stance remains unclear, previous developments have suggests a move towards more flexible views with this technology.

I'm not sure about that. What has FIFA to do with Cryptocurrency? I see absolutely no connection between these two, but it might be just me who knows lol. I expect a sales increase in all sports gambling websites which are accepting cryptocurrencies, but nothing more. The price is still manipulated by the big players and we'll stay low for as long as they want to keep BTC there. Afterwards we'll go boom boom to the moon  ;D

So, there you have it. It has come and gone and nothing has happened. The price even went down below the level where it was before the Soccer World Cup started.  ::)

Fifa comes to an end and all the general holiday ends! It is a great pity that so many football weeks have passed! In Russia it is not forbidden, but bitcoin is not allowed! Now in Russia there are two communities for and against! I'm sure that if the president himself speaks about this, as well as his surroundings! this means that Russia is moving in the right direction - the legalization of the bicconi and the crypto world! Of course, it was impossible to advertise bitcoin on football, but there are probably people who bought tickets for crypto coins!)))

The World Cup in Russia has already ended in football. This event was grandiose and extensive and it remains to collect statistics on the issue of demand, use and use of crypto currency in connection with this event. But I am sure that such large-scale projects are also contributing to the growing crypts.

Probably it would have been the first World Cup final with only two spectators one of them being Putin (whom nobody sane enough would ask for a ticket) and the other the one making sure Putin is not alone  ;D
Remember this fiasco (http://www.businessinsider.com/bitcoin-conference-stops-accepting-bitcoin-network-fees-congestion-2018-1)?

So, there you have it. It has come and gone and nothing has happened. The price even went down below the level where it was before the Soccer World Cup started.  ::)

Not too much of a surprise, isn't it?

The World Cup in Russia has already ended in football.

Can you please let me know who won, at what score and who scored in what minute?
I'll share 90% of the profits, I swear   ::)

I do not think that the football championship will have a significant impact on the cryptocurrency market. In Russia, there are no specific solutions for the settlement of cryptocurrencies. Do not forget that Russia is still under sanctions. Therefore, its capabilities are limited.

This big event, Fifa 2018 in Russia, will definitely uphold both the price and the popularity of bitcoin to some extent as Russia has officially announced recently a statement about legalizing the use of bitcoin in accompany with the other methods of digital payment. Moreover, this event will encourage the public who come from all over the world to adopt bitcoin as a main and easy way regarding common transactions, and those people, in turn, will reflect a positive impression abot bitcoin in general.

Sure, I believe the ongoing event is a great opportunity for the crypto community to expand. To some extent there would be an increase in the activities involving bitcoins and other cryptocurrencies; it has also led to the spearheading of vital projects such as the Sportsfix ICO which aims at allows fans to participate and engage with their favorite sporting events in a self-contained economy with all digital transactions employing smart contracts backed by blockchain technology.

Hmmm. Care to share what big tournament is FiFA hosting in Russia? World Cup 2018 has crowned France as the new champion so I don't know if you are aware of what you are saying here, it has ended 2 weeks ago. I also didn't fell that the World Cup has somewhat pushed bitcoin or crypto to the next level. Also, I'm very skeptics about Russia adopting crypto because if you have been following them, they always contradicts themselves, a indication that the government has and will not support bitcoin or crypto in general.

The last message is more suitable for characterizing the state of affairs in Russia with the crypto currency.
What can you expect from a country where crypto-currency sites, social networks are prohibited and a draft law on criminal responsibility for the use of crypto-currency as a means of payment is submitted to the legislature? Yes, and the latest statements of Russia's top officials on the introduction of crypto currency also do not inspire optimism.

We have already made sure that the World Football Championship has not had any positive impact on the development of the crypto currency in Russia. Yes, in principle, he could not do it. In general, Russia is still at a crossroads and is waiting for the decision of its legislative body, which has so far not adopted a single law from the proposed several bills. I do not think that Russia will adopt good laws with respect to the crypto currency. Under the present government this is hardly possible.
