Title: Where are all the Bitcoin millionaires?
Post by: Prolifik on January 30, 2014, 04:30:18 AM
I thought by now I would see a few Bitcoin millionaires living large on youtube, but I'm seeing a lack of videos. Where are they?

I've been thinking this same thing. There should be some of you here who have been around to have gathered up thousands in the early days!

There's also a lack of litecoin mining rig videos. Some of you guys must have 100+ gpu operations.

A lot of people kicked the can down the road, picking up a few hundred bitcoins in the process...mining wasn't something a lot of people stuck with for long periods back then...remember, when Bitcoin was a year and a half old, mining was easy with a CPU and bitcoins were essentially worthless.  I've met a few guys in that general scenario and they're busy with their already busy lives...just a few hundred kilo bucks richer--not enough to last a lifetime of living large!

All of the people that i know that have serious weight in bitcoins want to stay under the radar. Most of them are already financially successful from other business ventures, and don't want to bring any unecessesary attention to themselves.

Right now I have no reason to promote bitcoin, and nobody in my part of the midwest has even heard of it. I've thought about advertising myself to these bitcoin millionaires.. if they really want bitcoin to spread they need to spread their coin around to people like myself would would promote it, who would use my laminated paper wallets as tips, or just leave them laying around in random places like at wally-world or the college campus,  and tell people where I work about it, wear the t-shirts in public, etc. As it stands I am completely silent about bitcoin because I have no vested interest in it.  I found out about it too late and I'm not paying 800 bucks a coin. The few times I have mentioned it at work people have no idea what it is and I drop the subject.

I doubt I'd get 2+ BTC anyways... I'm sure people have tried infinite ways to scam bitcoins from people here. If someone is serious about such a donation they can PM, and I will provide them the proof as I go along that I am indeed doing what I am saying with my bitcoin advertising.

If I was a bitcoin millionaire I'd maybe mention that I have 'a couple' bitcoins to co-workers, and beyond that I'd spend it very slowly in small chunks just on 'stuff' such as a 6-core ivy bridge processor from overstock.com, precious metals, or whatever I can find online that accepts bitcoin.. no huge sells, no tipping my hand that I even have any at all, to avoid capital gains on any 'gain'... but I don't have this problem. If I had a ton of bitcoins they'd all go into paper wallets, my laminated paper wallets, into chunks no larger than 5 BTC each... these same wallets would also be backed up in their raw image file format on truecrypt archives... but alas I'm a poor person instead with all the software but none of the bitcoins.

Good for you because what you describe as "promoting" is exactly what veteran bitcoiners DO NOT want..... its strategy for ponzi scheme and we had enough of that.

spreading bitcoin paper wallets around a ponzi?  If that's the case any form of advertising whatsoever is the same thing..... advertising during the super bowl?  I love the idea of paper wallets and would have a blast leaving them lay around as tips. I suppose it's best only tech savvy people are in bitcoin right now and the rest can join in when they are ready and there are services in place that protect the 'unwashed masses' from losing their money due to their insecurity... so I can see your point.  Best it take off when it's ready rather than explode and end up with tons of people losing their money and thus bad publicity.

I would expect at the current price having even a couple thousand BTC would be a life altering amount. It might not allow someone to quit their job forever, but that's a significant boost for a nice change. I'd like to see more stories like that.

Exactly. Let bitcoin grow organically and actually be useful (and used) for a large variety of services. The price will follow accordingly.

Kid... there are differences in advertising strategies, what you described is only for ponzi scheme, money-tree trusts....

Your tiny brain somehow think all advertisement is the same. You dont see ponzi scheme advertised on tv prime time do you? its only on day time where all the jobless retards sitting on their couches...

Bragging is frowned upon by a large part of the crypto community. I suspect this as well as privacy and safety to be the most significant factors.

Whatever happened to just appreciating just purchasing a single bitcoin early around $1 and it going up in value to ~$1000. I think you should just be happy with what you have and keep it to yourself, thats my motto.

Perhaps it is an incorrect assumption that millionaires spend their time making youtube videos and "living large". Maybe there are some nouveau riche types who cant wait to make it rain bitcoin at the club, but generally it is rational, sensible, adults who profit the most.

No, you're really just a fucktard, that's all.

No, theymos used to have a glowing bar on her ignore so new people could see she is highly ignore. this person has a very interesting history and is more or less ignored by the established bitcoin community. theymos really needs to fix that bar thing again.

Funny how the scammers come out of the woodwork every time the price moves a little. Back in 2011 you were supposedly running some mining farm nobody ever saw. Back in 2012 you were the chief shill running fake assets on the Global Scam Exchange. At which point you were also banned, for being pretty much the worst scum on this forum.

Now you're talking about "the community"? Why, because fucktards like this prolifik schmuck weren't around and don't have a clue?

Right-o.

That's a great point you have everyone sells when it gets to high and their intial investment was very small and they sold when it got in the big money as soon as possible because they didn't think this was going to happen.

There are more than 890 addresses with at least 1,200BTC in them.

I guess but most of those wallets may have been lost because they didn't realise the potential I bet if you take a look nothing has been transfered from those addresses in a very long time.

It's an interesting question. It would've taken vision, forgetfulness or lack of need to have not sold up a big chunk a long time ago if you had gathered a large amount.

Holding now seems to make a lot of sense. The psychology even 18 months ago must've been quite different.

If I had a big holding I most definitely wouldn't be telling anyone about it.

the sort of people BTC attracts and got it early on, and did not somehow loose keys, get scammed and Hodl till now, are likely self selecting for , smart, anon, quiet, resilient, not easily trolled types, scammed types.

They probably understand they not only gain nothing from being flagrant with their wealth, except paining increasingly large targets on their back from well...take a pick.

satoshi lead the way in this.....and most that hodl on will continue to self select. They are by and large not the type that will get much lasting gratification from ostentatious displays of wealth, but meaningful achievement, in stewardship of something better.

It just they way they would be wired.

Of course there will be outliers, but in the main I think this how it is.

I hodl my ubtc  horde in hope.....

Seems that some level of hodlings elevates one to a social status to where one does not stoop down and enter the den of troll-talk.

Of course that level varies from person to person...

And, or course, there are many reasons for a guy's interests to shift around (and money tends to produce these reasons at a higher rate.)  Those who no longer bless us with their presence are most probably doing much more productive things.  It's always a delight, however, to see a ghost of certain of them flutter through or be called back via some necro post.

You can find bitcoin millionaires in online casinos; usually, they are busy earning more bitcoin. I’ve heard many successful players in the gambling world because of bitcoin, that’s why I got interested to play too… hoping I could be one of the millionaires too. :)

More than 2500 addresses with at least 500BTC.

The millionaires are out there, they're just really quiet about it apparently.

While I myself am a po' boy, I've known a few millionaires. Most of them do NOT advertise, other than they tend to wear the finest clothes and not drive old junk. People pester the fuck out of a guy known to have money, and it costs money to prevent that.

Smart people with a moderate to large bankroll do their business quietly, unless there is a good reason not to. Lottery winners tend to be broke within a decade, cuz they "live large" instead of being careful with their money. If I were a millionaire, you would never know it. I'd have the money to purchase the peace and quiet that I like.

I was just thinking today that it'd be nice to be rich enough to be agoraphobic.
