Title: Mixing HD 7950 with R9 280x
Post by: coldbreeze16 on January 30, 2014, 11:46:43 AM
I'm going to buy 2 R9 280x to add to my line up of HD 7950 for mining. What AMD drivers would be most appropriate?

Also I'm thinking about switching from Win 7 on a hard disk to either Xubuntu or SMOS 1.2. Are there any overclocking utilities for linux since the command line parameters for set vddc don't work?

Use Catalyst 13.12. There are modded drivers out there if you connect 5 or more cards. Someone said he could run 7 cards on Win 8.1 with standard drivers.

You can install Windows 7 on a 32GB USB pen http://www.rmprepusb.com/tutorials/win7onusb
I have a system mining that way

You will need SGMiner 4.0.0.

CGMiner doesn't like mixing different -g 1 and -g 2 (gpu thread) cards in the same config.

That's what I was looking for. Thanks. I'll be running two 7950 and two R9280x on one system with xubuntu 12.04. Can't I run two instances of cgminer one handling 7950s and one with R9's?

You theoretically could, but i've seen limited success even with that type of config.

SGMiner is pure awesome.  I'd give it a shot.
