Title: ASRock H110 not showing any signal
Post by: m4L on June 01, 2018, 09:53:59 PM
Hey guys,

I just tried to set up my first mining rig. After I had connected everything (and double checked everything), I tried to start my rig up.
However, I didnīt work. The problem was that my screen didnt get any signal.

After I did some research online, I saw that this might be a common problem with this mobo.
Does anyone have any idea what I could do? I tried only the onboard gpu, then tried just a gpu, but nothing worked - I never got a signal.

Here is a picture of my mobo:

This is my setup:

8GB Sapphire Radeon RX 580 Nitro+ Aktiv PCIe 3.0 x16 (Retail)
ASRock H110 Pro BTC+ Intel H110 So.1151 Dual Channel DDR4 ATX Retail
1200 Watt be quiet!
8GB Corsair Vengeance LPX schwarz DDR4-3000 DIMM CL15 Dual Kit
Intel Pentium G4400 2x 3.30GHz
250GB Samsung 850 Evo 2.5" (6.4cm) SATA 6Gb/s TLC Toggle (MZ-75E250B/EU)

Any ideas?

bent cpu pins? easy to do on intel boards - happened to me, even when slightly bent they sometimes partially work but with strange errors eg not reading all memory or pcie ports

amd threadripper tr4 boards have a much better cpu mounting - more expensive though

If no screen, you check if you have plug in the extra 2 molex and 1 sata needed to power the board.

In picture, i dont see plug in the pcie_pwr1 molex cable yet. check pcie_pwr2 and sata_pow1.

disconnect the pcie riser and gpu.

start up and see if boot screen appear and press F2

there is setting use onboard graphic, pcie or both.

You must set both when there are riser gpu in use.

bent cpu pins?

I also have experience with bent cpu pins before. That also possibly causing OP's problem.
OP you should check!

If no screen, you check if you have plug in the extra 2 molex and 1 sata needed to power the board.

Basically, that extra Molex used as GPUs extra power (PCIe bus), but I found some thread before with almost the same problem and solved with that (two extra Molex on board).

@OP
Have you tried to reset CMOS? Unplug and re-plug memory (RAM), boot your system without HDD (SSD) and plug the monitor at the onboard graphics.

You bought the wrong RAM. The fastest memory the ASRock H110 Pro BTC+ supports is 2400 MHz RAM with a Core i7 CPU only. Your Pentium G4400 only supports 2133 MHz RAM max.

Return it and buy this one or another module that's listed on the memory QVL.

Noted
So that was the issue is, make sense. That was a compatibility issue between memory (memory speed) and its processors, right?

Yes. Some motherboards will automatically down clock the memory to match the supported speed or in the Bios, but it's always best to buy components that are supported to avoid compatibility issues.

So I did sent back my mobo and changed my DDR4 Ram to a 2133 Mhz one.
It did not help, I still get no connection...

I just finished a boxing match with this board myself.  I tried to use a processor from a previous build and that TB 250 board had shorted out in a puff of smoke.  I had thought the CPU was undamaged.  The CPU worked in this board for about 2 weeks.  After that, the symptoms were just as you described.
I ordered a new CPU G4400 and when I installed it;  at first, same problem.  After hitting myself on the head, I noticed the CPU fan plug was not fully inserted and the CPU fan was not even spinning.  So double check the CPU and Fan with another one if possible.  Since you replaced the Mobo already, I would say your CPU may be next on the list to replace.
Also, don't use a DVI to HDMI adapter on the Mobo.  I found that I couldn't get into the bios with the adapter and had to find an old DVI to DVI cable that would work.
After setup, I am able to use a DVI adapter with HDMI dummy plug, but can't see anything until it hits windows loading screen.  This could be a simple setup in the bios fix, but just don't feel like hanging out in the 100 degree mining room messing around with it.  If it works...I don't mess with it!  Good Luck

Double check all of the board connections, 8-pin CPU power, 24-pin ATX cable, RAM, CPU and fan connection. Reset the CMOS by cutting the power at the PSU switch, waiting 15 seconds for the remaining power to drain and then removing the battery and shorting the CMOS jumper. Afterwards put the jumper back in the default position and directly connect the monitor to either the onbard DVI or a single GPU in the x16 PCI-E slot only. Power the PSU switch back on, power up and you should see the POST screen and enter the Bios. If successful, update to the latest Bios from a USB drive as explained in the manual before continuing with the Bios configuration.

Alright, the CPU fan is plugged in and running. Im using just the DVI adapter.
Do you really think my cpu is damaged?

Remove the DVI adapter and connect the monitor to a single GPU placed directly in the x16 PCI-E slot.

I canīt do that unfortunately. My Rig is already build and I the distance between its bottom and the Mobo is not high enough.
I have, however, connected a Riser to it and it does not work.

I placed the Riser directly in the x16 pcie and also have connected it with the psu

Ok Iīve done it - nothing has changed..

Double check the riser connections, try another riser or USB cable. If a known good riser/cable is still not working and you checked all the other things I mentioned, it could only be bad hardware. Either the mobo/cpu is bad or has bent pins or incompatible memory. What memory module are you using?

Bought this one: HyperX FURY HX421C14FBK2/8 - its mentioned on the official ASRock site as compatible.
This is my hdd: 250GB Samsung 850 Evo 2.5" (6.4cm) SATA 6Gb/s TLC Toggle

Check to see if the CPU slot on the mobo has bent pins.

Check to see if the CPU slot on the mobo has bent pins.

Done not working. Man, this is so annoying - gonna send it back tomorrow, cant be bothered any longer...

Can someone recommend a better one? Maybe compatible with my current set up mentioned above?

Will this one work out?

Asus 90MB0VY0-M0EAY0

I've had my H110 Pro BTC+ running with 13 RX 580's for almost a year since it came out without issue. Very easy board to configure for multiple cards. If anything, the PCI-E slot layout is poorly thought out since it will cause the usb connector on the riser to short out on the back of the adjacent PCI-E connector causing the GPU to not be recognized, but it's an easy fix with two pieces of electrical tape to cover the back of the riser connectors. Otherwise a solid board, but I get it can be frustraing when things are not working out.

The Asus B250 mining expert, Biostar TB250-BTC Pro or Gigabyte GA-B250-FinTech are also good choices for 12-13 GPU rigs and should work fine with your current hardware.

Hi I have the same problem with no image coming out of the DVI socket except with a graphics card plugged into the PCIx16 port BUT I have a 2400Mhz memory module could this be the problem?

This thread is 2 years old with a lot of baggage and no resolution. You should start a new thread and
provide more info on your specific setup and problem. If it works with a GPU it's not a RAM problem.

yes it's true but I didn't want to create a new post if the answer was so simple and already discovered
I have ram 2400 Ballistix with an Intel Celeron Pentium G4920 I would rather 2133mhz it looks like?

I solved my no signal issue simply by sticking the RAM in the other RAM slot of the mainboard.
