The team is using it to create a FOMO to the investors and traders. It will be similar as trx or even eos, the launched of the mainnet doesn't give a lot of impact to the coin itself. Recently several new coins are coming to the market. Everyone has their strength. But this iost is doing well. Their team is really doing a lot of advertising to build trust on the investors. So it seems that these new coins will have a tough competition with iost.
