Title: NEM - A good place to start for newcomers
Post by: Chaos514 on January 31, 2014, 11:22:50 PM
Welcome newcomers,

For those of you who are new to crypto-currency and that don’t want to invest hundreds/thousands of dollars in equipment, this post is for you.

First, let me give you a quick overview of the crypto-currency scene right now to help you focus your energy properly. We can divide the different coins in two categories the Proof-of-Work (PoW) currency and the Proof-of-Stake (PoS) currency.

“With Proof of Work, the probability of mining a block depends on the work done by the miner (e.g. CPU/GPU cycles spent checking hashes). With Proof of Stake, the resource that's compared is the amount of Bitcoin a miner holds - someone holding 1% of the Bitcoin can mine 1% of the "Proof of Stake blocks". [https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Proof_of_Stake]

What this mean, is that if you want make money by mining (for PoW currency), you will to invest in specialized hardware and hope to cover the cost in the long run. In the other hand, if you are looking to coins in the PoS category, you will need to acquire coins on an exchange or through an IPO which usually also requires money.

But there’s one currency that will allow you to get implicated in the wonderful world of crypto-currency without having to invest large sum of Money: NEM

NEM stand for the New Economy Movement. NEM aims at a completely fair distribution of the coin. So it means that everybody that shows interest in the coin will receive an equals shares once it launch. You can of course show your interest by paying a pre-determined entering fee, but you can also gain your stake for free by promoting NEM around. So it’s basically risk free.

Also, since NEM is a Proof-of-Stake (PoS) currency, you won’t need to invest in expensive hardware or to cannibalize your gaming computer for coin mining.

If you want to be part of this wonderful movement, please go read the following post:
