What if they could send bitcoins to an address and that turned my heat up? I wouldn't mind cause they were paying micropayments per 10mins that the heat is above a certain degree? Is this even possible or socially acceptable?

You would want code that could check the blockchain at an address and fetch the balance. If the balance changes, the new deposit (float) could be used as input to turn a knob on a physical device. The larger the deposit the greater the degree of turn. It could then control a thermostat or a fan or whatever. Title: Re: Is this even possible?
