Title: Why do altcoins follow bitcoin?
Post by: CryptAssist on June 08, 2018, 07:02:26 AM
Why is it that the moment BTC starts to sway, the other coins follow suit. It would be hard for everyone to sell that much at the same time. It seems beyond just panic selling. They seemed to be directly linked. Inf-fact, BTC going down should increase and encourage altoins as they raise in value compared to BTC as it falls so why this uniform sell off? Something seems weird about that to me. Any real theories, or explanations?

TL:DR Simply put, alt gains aren't an indication of more money moving into the market (at least right now), gains are pumped and lost because money is simply being moved around from one position to the next and not indicative of growth.

This is a really complex question and its going to take a lot to answer...

First of all, bitcoin's stability is the entire market..... imagine it as bitcoin being the trunk, ethereum is the larger branches.. and other altcoins are the leaves... Anytime the trunk isn't healthy the branches and leaves cannot flourish, and will quickly wilt or die.. but when bitcoin's trunk is really strong it creates a healthy cycle for the alts and branches to flourish.   The analogy doesn't answer the question though but it does explain how it operates..but the real question is why?   To me, the main reason this happens is not for fear or panic, but more for an opportunity.  People think of cryptocurrency as long-term investments,, which the market doesn't honor.  As you can see recently with alts pumping then pulling back as BTC needed some support, that simply no new money is coming into this space and is simply moving around.  For example.. look at Tron for its Mainnet or Verge for its lolpornhub announcement.. no new money came into this space for those events, money frankly just moved from one place to another.  Whales and smart money know when BTC is dropping to abandon alts not because they fear having them, but because they can capitalize on the capitulation of noobs and simply just pull their money away and wait for others that don't know whats going on to panic.  But hodling isn't the answer either, since usually when alts pump alot of the gains are often lost rotating from one place simply to another.  Imagine you have like a rotating face.. alts on one.. btc in another.. tether or USD in another.  Alts are completely out of position 2 out of 3 times.. and not only will they not gain, theyll lose to people leaving them to cause a position trade.   So the only way to really deal with this is to buy alts at the bottom of a BTC trend and sell them at the top of a BTC trend.. then either hold BTC to buy alts later or switch to tether and take advantage and double dip of staying in the right facing position.....

The next thing you're going to ask is why doesn't something like TRX/USDT disconnect.. the reason is it gets corrected by arbitrage algo bots.  If there is a way to make money with an unnatural gap selling TRX to USDT and selling USDT into BTC back into TRX, the unnatural gap will be closed.. so even in this instance USDT doesn't make any sense.. on top of that USDT is just an altcoin not proven to be backed up by anything so you'd STILL have to back into BTC or ETHER to cash out back into cash on your preferred exchange.

To be fair, I know it sucks, but its just the way it is.  The best way to deal with this is to do as everyone else does and move in and out of positions that will make you the most money... fundamentally I'm really bullish on a lot of alts, but if you're here to make money you have to play the smart game like everyone else.   People position trade and do whatever makes the most money.. until it becomes a more regulated market and the speculation becomes more real use cases, I would expect it to get worse before it gets better.

Personally i also do not understand why all crypto now move going up and down by the same times. Just like the price controlled by one group. A few years ago actually price action of each crypto is much different,  but now they move bullish and bearish at the same times.

It is just bassed on people sentiment, it is not because the price is sticked with bitcoin's pattern, that is just a theory.
Well, the price is only affected because of the price in BTC, but it does not affect much as many people think

The amounts of money involved were different though.. its harder to convince people to sell Ripple at fractions of a penny compared to 2.00... I do think it is slightly more position trade heavy in today's market simply because more people are gullible and whales are loading up the position trade manipulation because of the bear market to accumulate since thats the best you can really do now til we get out of this bearish trend.

I do think trading charts are an example of human sentiment than they are of specific coins or news.. Certain percentages of people will react in grouped ways to certain types of stimulus.. There are people who will dump along with whales at the top, a certain percentage that will be opportunistic and get out early, a certain amount of avg traders with a stop loss, noob traders into capitulation, etc.  The avg trader since the December runup I think is much easier to get to extreme bag hold and sell in capitulation over follow more sound strategies, so its easier for position traders and whales to get what they want since larger percentages of people give them the result they desire.

Maybe it is about the balance. Bitcoin is the biggest player in the cryptocurrency. Maybe that's why. In every action there will be equal or opposite reaction.

You can clearly see that the market is fluctuating at bitcoin prices, bitcoin is the most valuable and influential digital currency. Bitcoin price is only $ 100 - $ 200, then the market immediately got a huge adjustment. So when you trade altcoin you always need to follow bitcoin prices to be able to profit the most safely.

are they in a network of the same blockchain or because the nature of the digital currency is the same up and down simultaneously and that determines the value is the capacity of the user? if it is true I think every coin does not have its own specific criteria.

Bitcoin is the king in crypto space at least until now, bitcoin is considered a pioneer in cryptocurrency and so far the value refer to USD is the highest among all crypto space. It is also the volume and liquidity is the biggest so it is very reasonable if all alt coins are following bitcoin circumstances.

BTC is the most popular currency with the highest market volume.
Changes in market price are first reflected on btc before other coins.

Title: Re: Why do altcoins follow bitcoin?
Post by: Tytanowy Janusz on June 08, 2018, 02:05:16 PM
You are all right but there is something that is main reason for that. All alts fallow bitcoin mainy couse economic reason. Its pure math. Let me explain

Now 90% of any altcoin volume is made in pair alt/btc and only 10% in fiat/alt.

When in 90% altcoin is traded by bitcoin than bitoin drop have to make price drop of altcoin. Why? Beacuse calculated price (btc value x altcoin value in bitcoins) is getting lower and lower beacuse btc value is getting lower. Big USD market is making it more independent from bitcoin move, becuse arbitrage bots buys cheep bitcoin, cheep alft from it and sells it on usd market. So if its big enought it can cover bitcoin drop making alt/btc price higher.

Thats why etherum is more independent. It has big fiat market with great volume. But still not high enough.

How it looks like now (90% of altcoin volume in btc pair)?
1-Bitcoin price drop.
2-calculated altcoin price $ drop
3-arbitrage bots buys altcoins for btc and sell on usd market making drop there (because its not big enought and loosing with alt/btc market) - without pushing alt/btc price higher beacuse usd market is too small to do that.
4-people seeing price drop are selling to btc and then fiat or hold bitcoin what decrise alt/btc value what even more push price lower and make more investors sell.

Thats why its so mechanical. Bitcoin drops and in the same second altcoin price drops. Bitcoin Price $ drop->Arbitrage bots->alt price $ drop->stoplos/trading bots leaves >alt/btc&$ price drop->investors sells->alt/btc&$ price drop-> next stoplos etc. thats how it looks. When it would be coues by investors decisions only ("ok ill sell becouse bitcoin - main currency- is droping") it wont be that fast i think.

Thats why when bitcoin drop 30% altcoins mostly drop 50%

It will also be possible when altcoins will have their reallife massured value. That will work like bigger usd market.

TL:DR Simply put, alt gains aren't an indication of more money moving into the market (at least right now), gains are pumped and lost because money is simply being moved around from one position to the next and not indicative of growth.
Agreed  :) Money are pumped into cryptocurrencies mostly by bitcoin. So if any alt drops it only changes hands (someone who has bitcoin now has alt and someone who has alt now has bitcoin - amount of fiat pumped into market is still the same). When bitcoin drops it means that someone pulled money from whole market.

Bitcoin is the oldest crypto currency, and also it is the most successful one with the highest potential and value, in addition, the Bitcoin's market is the biggest among crypto markets. So it is normal that altcoins follow Bitcoin and get influenced by its market and price.

I see this is a common occurrence or frequent occurrence of altcoin price movements will follow bitcoin prices. and I think it's because bitcoin is an icon among other coin types so everyone who will make a purchase on altcoin will follow the bitcoin price movement.

I think both of them is having some direct relationship as most of the time they dive together. I always connect them in a way such that when bitcoin is dropping then people are actually selling off the altcoins so that they can convert it to the bitcoin. But bitcoin market cap is really huge and thus when people are buying it or converting their altcoins into the bitcoin then doesn’t show up the hikes in BTC market immediately. This effect causes both the market to go down simultaneously. That’s my way of thinking of it, as I have always tried to find the answer for this one and gotten this after studying the market.

They are economicaly conected. Its not only investors decission. As op wrote it happends too fast. Read my post. I explained how it economicaly works -  how without any investors decision price drops only by arbitrage bots and trading bots. Of cours this is indicator. Investors are doing their job after it. But they are sellig altcoin during bitcoin drop becouse they know it will drop too by their traiding experience. Not becouse bitcoin is the biggest and every has to fallow it. If all altcoins would be separated (traded only with fiat or at liest 90% volume in fiat pair) than it would be like OP wrote. Bitcoin drop would incrise btc/alt price.

I think because bitcoin is the main coin and only some is independent enough even without bitcoin but most of them are very dependent on bitcoin and when it dumps it gets more and more affected.

Why is it that the moment BTC starts to sway, the other coins follow suit. It would be hard for everyone to sell that much at the same time. It seems beyond just panic selling. I think why all of the cryptocurrencies follow Bitcoin because it is the leader for all of the cryptocurrencies that's why they follow Bitcoin and the second reason from this is if your currency will travel solo there is no Assurance for the development of it so if you follow the steps followed by the Bitcoin there is little chance available fall back this is the reason for following Bitcoin.

Am I here the only person who came to explain hard topic instead of writing the same sh.... to only increase number of posts?
You realy think that your one sentence started with "i think" is not a SPAM here after atrocityx expaining exacly how it mentaly works in investors head and me explaining how it economicaly work.

because bitcoin is the reference of all coins, maybe that's a brief explanation. but in fact it is, when bitcoin down altcoin follows it. and some other reasons like panic when they see bitcoin prices go down, they will sell their altcoins. with altcoin reasons going down if bitcoin prices go down.

This depends on the coin. Ethereum, for example, is not very related as its blockchain structure and network serves different functionalities than Bitcoin. Take Litecoin, a smaller and more efficient bitcoin made to solve bitcoin’s problems. Where bitcoin can be used, litecoin, in theory, can be used better therefore they are much more closely tied.

The actual reason is investors are follow the Altcoins and Bitcoin so marketcap is similarly move to the same way. But peoples are expecting Bitcoin is controlled by altcoin. First we should think how Crypto market is pump and dump the main reason is supply and demand if you investing continuously automatically this will growing faster at the same time if you sell continuously it will down in the market. So investors are major in Crypto platform.

I just hope someday all the coins can be independent because Bitcoin is increasingly showing dominance throughout the market and the downward trend is still going on in recent months. I personally invested in many good projects but when looking at Bitcoin prices fell my investment also fell

Ether is not that related to bitcoin becouse it has bigger USD market. https://coinmarketcap.com/currencies/ethereum/#markets

As you can see its more like 50:50 or 40:60 instead of 90:10 to 99:1 in other alts (alt/BTC : ALT/fiat) . Thats why its price is more independent than other alts but still fallows bitcoin.

All cryptocurrencies rely on the Bitcoin; Bitcoin indicates the crypto market. Bitcoin has Almost half or more than half volume of the total crypto market cap; Bitcoin is the headquarters of the crypto. Without bitcoin, Crypto market will drop like zero, without it's we can't imagine a crypto market like at this moment. I think All coin made by following bitcoin technology; Though we called them Altcoin, they also help bitcoin to be worth over the world. If bitcoin pumps then other every coin will pump too, and if bitcoin goes down then all currencies will follow bitcoin! It's simple math.

You can see that the market has been fluctuating continuously over the years and it is difficult to predict, so it is very difficult to trade successfully. Bitocin prices in recent days are constantly adjusting, only a bit of bitcoin mitigation can cause the market to turn around and make the price of the alcohols fell sharply.

I am strongly of believe that at some point the correlation between Bitcoin and altcoins will no longer become a thing. It all comes down to how dumb and get rich quick minded people have no idea what they are doing here, and what they are investing in. The more professional this market becomes, the lower the correlation between crypto currencies is. Technically speaking, it makes no sense that one coin that is fundamentally different from Bitcoin, exactly follows its patterns. In the aforementioned scenario, it will translate into a situation where the far majority of the altcoins will lose a tremendous amount of value. Bitcoin's higher price is the only reason copy & paste coins are where they are right now....

The main reason for this is the greatest fear that people have. They are mainly afraid of the governments or "people in power" which include the bank owners and such, will decide to destroy cryptocurrencies and fight for them to become banned. If that happens they will not focus individually on every coin, but mainly on the most well known one and work on drafting the bills for all the rest once BTC has been dealt with.

Firstly, Bitcoin is first and self-proved crypto currency, and its decline in price causes the other altcoin holders to panic.
Secondly, Most altcoin based on Bitcoin, so when you want to buy a altcoin you must first get a Bitcoin, then you can get the altcoin with it and when the price of Bitcoin goes down it probably have to effect on the altcoin.

Traders take clue from bitcoin behavior and react when bitcoins give a hint of direction of where it is going. Almost all altcoins in the market is paired with btc and hence the behavior of bitcoin influences other coins too.

Indeed the majority of altcoin can not be separated from bitcoin because the king of the world of cryptocurrency is bitcoin so traders must be able to observe its exchange rate movements to anticipate the occurrence of large losses later. When relying on altcoin in investing.

I guess it just psychology of the trader. They are like whales that mover of the price. I will simply be thinking like this: If bitcoin price is down, I'm afraid the other cryptocurrency(altcoin) will be down too because they want to save their asset to fiat. But it just short time. The same condition happens when bitcoin price going up, I will thinking to buy altcoins as much as possible and hope I will sell them to bitcoin to make a double profit when I sell them again in fiat.

It is simply because bitcoin is the king of all cryptocurrency and it is use as a medium of exchange in digital currency. You can't buy altcoins if you do not use bitcoin ,ethereum or dollar. Bitcoin is the primary coins with higher value in crypto and play the important rule as digital currency that's why if bitcoin price down altcoin also down.

You can see that the market has been fluctuating continuously over the years and it is unpredictable, the price of bitcoin and altcoin is constantly decreasing, only a small bitcoin adjustment can cause the price of altcoin drops very strongly. So when we trade altcoin it is always necessary to keep track of bitcoin prices so that we can handle every possible situation.

Ethereum is tether to bitcoins because all of the altcoins today that are being released in the market are based on ethereum coins and that is the reason why altcoins is always next to bitcoins.

Nice reply, I learnt a lot from this.

In my opinion, the majority of cryptocurrencies (like, Ethereum, Ripple, Cardano..) are the followers of Bitcoin in every development (pump, dump), that's why when there is a big decrease in the price of Btc, then most of cryptocurrencies will fall too. So there is a relation Between the king and the other coins. Furthermore, I think there are two categories on the market.
First category: (buying + selling) Bitcoin.
Second category: (buying + selling) cryptocurrencies.
So there is a balance in the market.

Yes I am sure appreciated that if your a currencyis more powerful in the centre of our problems and confusion then following is here I think while you are in new to this world there is nothing will be wrong with following the Bitcoin because it is the leader of all of the cryptocurrencies

In observing the market prices, you may feel and think that bitcoin is literally following bitcoin as in when the market price of bitcoin is low, the altcoin prices are also low. This shouldn't be your way of thinking because altcoin is never going to go along with bitcoin. You see, all coins have their own prices and they are all volatile in nature. The fluctuations in their prices are primarily caused by buying and selling or in other words trading, and also because of investing. At times like this when bitcoin is on dump, other people are selling their altcoins because they think that bitcoin will affect it, in other words naive traders go panic selling.

You are right in your observation but there are some altcoins that does not follow BTC. MTC and LOC are among them you can check their record in the market. Why every altcoin follow BTC because bitcoin is the king of market and very first crypto currency so it should have some effect on the market. Otherwise who will know that BTC is the king

In my opinion only popular altcoin that follow price of Bitcoin , this is because the market cap each coin down the same times. Some altcoin  that has low marketcap  and has strong  community has different price movement,  they bullish when BTC bearish,  this is because  the market cap of that altcoin  growing.

Because bitcoin is still King.
Traders usually exit altcoins when bitcoin goes down hard because they plan to buy sell at the highest possible price then buy back at a lower price to increase their holdings. That's just the best reason I can think of.

The simple fact is that BTC is a long-standing penny in the market, and they decide the fate of other coins, once the BTC falls, will affect some other altcoins, most of the investors. On the altcoin they always converted to BTC or ETH to switch to fiat so when the BTC fell they also lost confidence in the other altcoin, so the price of the altcoin fell.

Yes I agree on that, I believe that bitcoin is the  king of all crypto currency and if the bitcoin price drop the altcoin will also drop. It maybe follow the bitcoin price because bitcoin is the most trusted coin now a days in crypto so then if bitcoin experience a huge dump other coin will also drop because the trust of the investors trust on bitcoin really matters.

I have been observing this same trend and asking myself same question. But see what I think.
At present, everything relating to cryptocurrency and blockchian is tied to bitcoin. Therefore what affects bitcoin will definitely affect other coins.
Like it or not, there is still FUD in everyone in this space. And since bitcoin is the rallying point, any drop or rise in bitcoin sends signals to other coins.
I Also observed that the investors of bitcoin and alt coins are the same persons. Everyone holding altcoin most likely holds bitcoin too. So any impression about bitcoin is almost instantly transferred to other coins.

Yes, people who hold various cryptocurrencies like to sell them all when Bitcoin enters bear market and bus altcoins with profit from trading Bitcoin in its bull market.
I've done this a couple times myself. When I got some profits from Bitcoin trading I bought more altcoins and when Bitcoin started to go down i sold my altcoins expecting them to follow Bitcoin and go down.

definetly many people or bitcoiners observe this following situation that why should altcoins follow into bitcoin if theres things happen  occur's  like if bitcoin dump all altcoins also turns to down ,and if the bitcoin will grow its price value into the market all altcoins value will be carried away, therefore i conclude in my mind that bitcoin is the mainstream of all resources in cryptocurrency,so therefore anything happen in bitcoin, its would affect the whole scenario of crypto world.

I think it's from the idea that Bitcoin, being the highest value amongst all the coins, also serves as the main value controller for other coins. The cryptocurrency market itself also follows the track Bitcoin goes. When Bitcoin is down, most of the market asset and the market itself show a "red" margin, with the exception of some few coins ,but when Bitcoin is going up, the market is also in "green".

Bitcoin going down will never encourage altcoins to rise, as when Bitcoin starts to fall there is panic to gain more before Bitcoin falls more. When Bitcoin is falling people sell their coin and invest in Bitcoin and then withdraw the money which affects both Bitcoin and altcoin. Their main purpose is to buy more Bitcoin at a lower price and then when market starts to get stabilizing they will invest in altcoins again. For instance, today Bitcoin is down by 12% and nearly every coin followed the same trend and creating a RED market.

Altcoin have a little affect with other currencies in the market and especially the Bitcoin because both are cryptocurrencies and the market minds are almost equal and that is why when the Bitcoin market goes down then the Altcoin market also follow the decrease trend and if the Bitcoin price goes up then the market price of Altcoin also follow increase trend.

No... because BTC also has a matching fiat pair and any arbitrage opportunity would be snatched up and flipped by arbitration bots.. Bots scan multiple exchanges/pairs/whatever and any opportunity to make even 1% cash will be eaten up, flipped to btc/usd and back to btc/alt.

The market in recent days is constantly falling sharply, you can see that bitcoin prices are constantly falling sharply and will likely reach the $ 6000 mark in the coming days. You can see that bitcoin costs a great deal on altcoin, just a small bitcoin variation that also causes the altcoin to drop sharply. So when you trade altcoin you always have to look at bitcoin to minimize the risk.

because most, if not all, of them have most of it's volume traded against BTC, which means:
when BTC falls, in oder to maintain it's value altcoin-X/BTC has to go up. When you don't have a rally going on on that altcoin this wont happen, since there is no (new) demand. So altcoin-x starts to lose value without even any selling going on, which than triggers actual selling of the coin.

when BTC rises it causes optimism for the whole market

Bitcoin is still the leader in the cryptocurrency market and anything that affects Bitcoin also affects all altcoins. That goes for government regulations, exchange hacks, etc.

Notice that all exchanges have different coins that they support for trading and different trading pairs but they all have Bitcoin (at least all the exchanges I have seen) and they all have BTC as the main trading pair.

I think Bitcoin being the market king and trend setter has great influence over the rest of the crypto market and this influence is actually due to the fact that Bitcoin has the ability to move a market in a given direction because it has been used by so many people that it has a great portion of the crypto market. By this I mean to say that Bitcoin acts like a monopoly ion the crypto market and has the ability to change the trends of other currencies.

Every coin have different number transaction and always follow trend depend bitcoin action. Because of that, coins prices can't predictable, there's no significant method or knowledge to know when it happen. As long you follow your strategy and set stop loss your asset will safe and never see market 24/7, it will make you stress and lost emotion control. This is all about the portion of the market Bitcoin has captured. The more portions a crypto has in the market, the more it has the ability to influence the market. No if we talk about Bitcoin, we already know it has captured a huge portion of the market and it can be thought of as monopoly which is actually the type of firm followed by the rest of the market. Since alt is also demanded a lot so when the price of Bitcoin go up, as a result of rise in the demand of alt, its price also go up.

Emotions comes for crypto generally. It doesn’t only assist bitcoin or altcoins. Both of them have a deep conception with emotions and especially in those scenarios where you are trading or investing in them. You have input all of your investment and hard earned money in the game and you would definitely be sensitive by taking them along. These both are equally affected by emotions.

It sounds like the body follows the head, so everytime people of the world hear Cryptocurrency  - they hear Bitcoin. So this is obvious, why all the currencies follow Bitcoin.

Lot's of posts, but not a single that really explains why altcoins follow bitcoin. It's still a mystery, there are not ETF like fonds where you buy a range of Cryptos or Alts. Only in that case it would make sense if a coin (i.e. Bitcoin) gets sold and other coins decline in price too

I think a lot of altcoin follow the price movement of bitcoin because altcoin price exchange depends on bitcoin price, when bitcoin rises then altcoin price will also rise but when bitcoin price drops altcoin will also decrease because altcoin do not have the courage to do very much increase when price bitcoin ride.

The fact that people wanting to speculate within the altcoin market are forced to buy Bitcoin first provides a constant bullish flow for Bitcoin, because when the shitcoin you are buying doesn't do well, people typically go back to Bitcoin and hold it in there to regain loses, since anywhere else and you may be holding a bag all the way down to stagnation ville.

Believe it or not, there are some hidden gems which have their own rallies during Bitcoin bear markets, these are extremely hard to find. For instance, I expected XSN to pump (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=3838147.msg37380716#msg37380716) due the hype that their TPoS solution would cause and it was a great hedge as my BTC count has gone up even if my USD count went down, and im interested in raising my BTC count up, not USD, for I know BTC will recover against USD eventually. So with a bit of research and a bit of luck you can still profit from altcoins during Bitcoin bear periods.

First thing of all is that, ethereum is tether to bitcoins so eth will increase its price further more if bitcoins will dump in the market, next thing that altcoins price today in the market are all based on ethereum so every coin is affected in the market.

There are many reasons for that, to begin with this is the market of cryptocurrencies and in order to buy most alts you need to first buy bitcoin, so if people are selling bitcoin then that means that less money is in the market of alts, also if you look at the market dominance of bitcoin it is almost 40%, while that is lower than in the past any movement of bitcoin influences the market greatly and alts cannot avoid being affected by it.

You can see that the market is fluctuating constantly and it is difficult to guess, so to be able to trade successfully at this time is very difficult to lose, bitcoin prices are dominating the market, only a correction Small bitcoin is also for the market to fall. So when you trade altcoin you always have to observe and monitor bitcoin prices.

Bitcoin is the mother of all cryptocurrency and others crypto currency are just copy cat of bitcoin protocol. However, all altcoin are traded against bitcoin and the cause of this current market dump was manipulation and FUD which leads to some market flood and panic sell. Meanwhile, so trader believe the only way to secure their fund is to dump their altcoin swap to bitcoin and then convert it into fiat currency.

The market is volatile and difficult to predict, so for you to trade successfully at this time is very difficult, the market is showing signs of falling into crisis and bitcoin price will be able to continued to fall deep. So the trade at this time of risk will be very high and you have to always observe and monitor bitcoin prices to be able to handle every situation when the bitcoin price drops.

Almost all the money come from the bitcoin market, so obviously when people move their funds from bitcoin to altcoins, bitcoin prices are affected and vice versa. That's why we always say that altcoins follows bitcoin. However, there are rare causes then both of the markets really shown good gains, just like we witnessed last year.

And I rarely see new investors going into altcoins in the beginning of their investment. Almost everyone loves to enter thru bitcoin market and once they gain confidence on how investments and trader operates, we will see some funds moving out of the bitcoin market and flowing into alts. So there's strong correlation between the two and that it how the market works.

Although altcoins are independent as a token, they couldn't avoid being affected by any price changes in bitcoin. Bitcoin may be the number one crypto but that doesn't mean that all remaining coins shall bow down to it. We have a volatile market that in anytime their prices can change but right now, it seems like when bitcoin is at dump, altcoins follows. As I have notice, traders are more likely to sell their coins when bitcoin dump because they think that altcoin will surely dump too. Imagine that there is already a panic sell in bitcoin and then there will also be in altcoins, the market will surely be on red.

Thanks for your sharing!

bitcoin is the largest digital currency, and most trusted for now. so, a decrease, or a high price increase will make a considerable influence on altcoin. besides, altcoin always has a backrest with bitcoin price, or ETH, so of course it will make a considerable effect.
Actually this is the crypto market and man promotions are almost the same about different coins. The main difference is in value which depends upon the demand of people, Bitcoin has highest value while Altcoin has different value that of Ethereum has different. So the main similarity is its digital nature and people consider it the same that is why these coins affect the same sometimes.

They follow bitcoin it is simply because most altcoins are in bitcoin's exchanger or market. When the price of bitcoin goes up the altcoins also therefor  when bitcoins are dumping they also does. But some altcoins are in ethereum or tether exchanges that's hwy they are not affected in bitcoin's status.
Yeah you are right. Many Altcoin are changes with bitcoin and the market cap is influenced by the cap of bitcoin. It is not good and I am against this strategy because many investors have small capital and they cannot invest in bitcoin. They want to hold some Altcoin and if they are on the way of bitcoin they there is no benefit to invest in such Altcoin. It is just a waste of time.

Very interesting point of view. Both markets are corelated as anyone planing to play the altcoin market needs to buy Bitcoin or Ethereum. But that would still only explain the synchronous volume pikes...it does not explain the pricing.

You can easily see the market in recent days is fluctuating continuously, bitcoin prices are constantly adjusting and cause prices of altcoin are constantly falling, so I think that at this point you Should be careful when trading, only a small fluctuation of the bitcoin price can also cause the price of altcoin drops very strongly.

The fact is that all the Crypto currency has always been very dependent on the price of Bitcoin. On the one hand, this is very wrong, Because I do not see any decentralization here, especially if large whales artificially manipulate the market. but in the near future I think this situation will change and Bitcoin will lose its importance in the crypto-currency world.

Doesn't that sound badly wrong (not in the way that you are wrong)? Altcoins focusing on different parts of the industry should at all times follow their own path, and not look at what Bitcoin is doing.

In current market it is understandable that all coins are moving in the same direction due to regulations, but even in the years before altcoins always followed Bitcoin's movements.

Ethereum for example has a completely different position in this industry, why should it go up or down with Bitcoin? I can buy or sell Ethereum from all services directly with fiat. I no longer need to use Bitcoin as bridge.

Well bitcoin is the first crypto was made and the value of it is no ordinary currency. The simplest explanation is that bitcoin is a coin that affects other Coins. with excellent capability it makes the bitcoin price very easy to influence altcoin price movements. bitcoin can be regarded as a superior thing, it is because bitcoin has a huge market share in the world of crypto. look at when there is a change in bitcoin prices then all altcoin will change, bitcoin like USD dollar and all affected by how everyone treats bitcoin in crypto world.

I can compare that i to why people follow some other people or to be exact to follow their idol of course there are something that bitcoins have that the altcoins wants and in order to achieve that of course they needed to follow the bitcoins in everyways. And there are also another thing maybe the bitcoins influence them on joining in this thing. They created their own altcoin because the bitcoins inspires them too be a part of the cryptocurrency and they wanted also to serve people and to enhance the capabilities of the bitcoins

Bitcoin could also crash down most of the altcoins price, due to exchange sites was having direct trades with bitcoin and crypto. You can see that the market is constantly fluctuating, only a small adjustment of bitcoin prices can cause the price of altcoin to fall sharply, so when trading altcoin you always have to observe bitcoin prices. Bitcoin is in a bearish long-term cycle so the current price increase of bitcoin is just in the short term, you should be careful when dealing with altcoin.

I think Bitcoin has a great share in the market like a monopoly in the traditional market and any rise or fall in the prices of Bitcoin can affect or influence the remaining crypto in the market.

But what a trader quest for is the profit maximization and nothing else because irrespective of the fluctuation of prices and the influence of Bitcoin over other currencies, profit can be gained by following some good strategies and plans.

Is true money moves and it seems no new entry of money on any particular coin so i think maybe if to say new investor decide to embrace say ethereum at the time while bitcoin seem stagnant where it is then it means market capitalizations moves and it may even cause a change in power in position if its strong enough..Good point I think the whole thing is about market capitalizations

It is true that indirectly bitcoin is connected to the altcoins, as price of bitcoin rises so altcoins rises itself but when bitcoin fell down it is only because bitcoin is the first digital currency and it was the first digital invention which I really appreciate to be invented, bitcoin made everything so high for us, now is easy to earn money only because bitcoin has given us a chance to become rich and become a successful investor.

bitcoin is the first coin in blockchain from bitcoin other coins came so all altcoins are following the decimal system from bitcoin in small units and paired up for trading if bitcoin falls all altcoins will follow eventually it is inter dependent
All altcoin in this market are priced with Bitcoin so when the BTC changes, most other altcoin also change their value. Since the market is small and the altcoin does not have a large enough community to be influenced by the BTC, I hope that when the market grows stronger, it will not.

You can see that the bitcoin price is affecting both the crypto market and of course it will greatly affect altcoin. Therefore, when trading or trading altcoin you must always observe and monitor the price of bitcoin to be able to handle each case can occur and reduce the risk. The market is volatile and difficult to predict so you need to have a specific trading plan.

Alt coins follow bitcoin because bitcoin is the main leader of cryptocurrencies. The influence of bitcoin has a big impact on alt coins.

Knowing bitcoin as the father of all coins, it is just normal to follow it's value. It is known to be the first cryptocurrency and it's at the top of all coins so it is just normal for altcoins to follow it. Bitcoin has a big impact in the flow of the market of all the altcoins.

It is not at all. But most trends are influenced by bitcoin prices. There is no doubt about the status of crypto - bitcoin king with the power of long-term development and popularity and the inherent utility. The bitcoin value is always associated with the data being analyzed for the next trend and movement of the market. Therefore, the altcoin always increase / decrease based on bitcoin.

Bitcoin will always affect the market price of crypto. It could be said as the main coin and all the news that affects the Bitcoin will certainly also affect Altcoin. Unlike when the price of Altcoin decreases then the price of Bitcoin will not experience the same conditions. Like a systematic thing, Bitcoin affects everything so quickly. So when we want to strengthen the crypto market then we have to start by increasing trust in Bitcoin, therefore for anyone who wants to see Altcoin price increases then they should start from Bitcoin.

It is just bassed on people sentiment, it is not because the price is sticked with bitcoin's pattern, that is just a theory.
Well, the price is only affected because of the price in BTC, but it does not affect much as many people think

in accordance with the laws of the market economy if the amount of supply is greater than the need then the price or value will tend to go down otherwise if the supply is less than the need then the price will tend to rise.

Most of the altcoin price is completely fluctuating because only when Bitcoin price starts decreasing, see whenever the price starts increasing automatically the price of altcoins will start increasing. So it means Bitcoin is a father of all cryptocurrency because it is a major currency which is currently ruining in cryptocurrency world.

The entire market is governed by sentiments; so everything about cryptocurrency is linked to the pioneer ( Bitcoin). To the ordinary people that don't know much about cryptocurrency, the only thing they know as "internet money" is Bitcoin. Therefore it is normal to see every other coin being influence by Bitcoin.

Until now the trend still depend from how bitcoin goes in the market, most of those alts are still working beside bitcoin and they are riding with the trend, it will take some time before the market will be like stocks where the assets have its own venue and will move according to its progress and gained supports from the community that they cater.

Altcoins should not bow down to bitcoin but they do, and why this happens? Because an important part of the alts are not really independent projects, most of them are based on bitcoin and have only changed the code slightly and then they claim they created another coin, people realize this so if the technology is mostly the same it makes sense that when the price of bitcoin goes down altcoins follow as well.

Bitcoin is the King of cryptocurrency for now, and it is as a result of it successes that other altcoins where thought of and conceived; thus, BTC will always be a benchmark. And because BTC is king now, effects on it will have an effect on the other coins in the market. For a more vivid explanation, take for example the current trade war between the US and China at the moment, they are warring between themselves, but because these are the two largest economies in the world, especially with regards to export, other countries and their respective currencies will feel the heat. So unless the countries can find a way to be less dependent on China and US, the trend will continue. Thus, same applies to the altcoins, new or old altcoins have to find a way to grow thier own value and usefulness in the blockchain industry in order to be more independent. For example Ethereum is trying to have multiple uses for its token/coin like the smart contract, thus, people can build some on that, and they are not all that tied to BTC.

When you trade altcoin you always have to keep track of bitcoin because you can see that the market is constantly fluctuating at bitcoin prices, only a small bitcoin adjustment can make the market turn around and hard to guess. The price of bitcoin is always dominated by sharks, psychological panic fear, the market is in the down trend so when trading you need to always observe bitcoin prices.

Because most altcoins are valued for BTC, the fluctuation of BTC has a direct impact on altcoin. Obviously all markets need healthy adjustment after a steady rise. The current decline is not too much of a worry, though some people will probably panic and sell off. If Bitcoin prices can stay above $ 6,000, things will become quite interesting.

You can see that the adjustment of bitcoin prices greatly affects the altcoin and the market, only a small fluctuation of the bitocin price can cause the market to swing and the price of altcoin can be greatly reduced. So when you trade altcoin you always have to keep track of bitcoin prices, I advise you to only trade when the bitcoin price goes up or is rising.

It's a difficult question, actually. Some alts are moving totally independently from BTC price. Sometimes people just trade vs USD value. Some people dump their alts for BTC. And this winter BTC and alts were going up together. So it's no that simple.

Bitcoin is the king of crypto world and the rest of the cryptos are like ordinary people. People do what their kind ordered. Most of the people want to invest in bitcoin because of the reliability and authentication while Altcoin possess many scams. But know many people invest in Altcoin due to huge drop in bitcoin price. Some cryptos are growing and do not follow bitcoin.

It's not about of being top coins in the market but the reason is that,  altcoins are still depending on bitcoin's market trend. Personally i also do not understand why all crypto now move going up and down by the same times. Just like the price controlled by one group. A few years ago actually price action of each crypto is much different,  but now they move bullish and bearish at the same times.
You can see that when bitcoin prices fluctuate and adjust altcoin prices are adjusted accordingly, only a small fluctuation of bitcoin prices also cause the price of altcoin greatly reduced. Therefore, when trading altcoin we always have to observe and monitor bitcoin prices to be able to handle in time and avoid damage.

One more easy answer as my opinion, No one Cottage can't go without Engine and so imagine that altcoin is Cottage and the Bitcoin is Engine.  ;) ;)

When dealing with altcoin you have to always keep track of the bitcoin price because you can see that the bitcoin price is controlling the whole crypto market, only a small bitcoin adjustment can cause the altcoin price to fluctuate sharply. An accurate technical analysis, clear plan, but if bitcoin prices drop sharply, the price of altcoin will certainly decrease and you will lose very heavily.

This is simply because it is a matter of pairing. I'll give you a true to life example. For example, you are from a basketball team. Let's say your team's name is bitcoin. Well, if you fought let's say, Ethereum team. If you will shoot the ball more often and you scores, it diminish the winning rate of the ethereum team, thus, making your winning rate go higher. Just like bitcoin and other alts, it's a rivalry between each others throat. If bitcoin goes high, eth will go down. #BTCDominance.

I think it's because bitcoin is an icon among other coin types so everyone who will make a purchase on altcoin will follow the bitcoin price movement.

Well, the intermediate character is what we need to know first about bitcoin, all the exchanges and transactions of altcoin will be through bitcoin, so the change of bitcoin always has an influence on the whole market, we should accept the king collapsed, its era will collapse. More simply, we can understand that, when the price of bitcoin increase, normally, altcoin will decrease sharply in bitcoin value because people have cut the loss from altcoin to get bitcoin and sell it at high prices, and this situation is similar when the bitcoin decreases, the fear increases, people want to cut faster loss to buy lower bitcoin price

Its because off-springs always follows their parents.  ;D
In crypto bitcoin is the father of everything. When bitcoin falls as it has high volume people get FUD and sell altcoins and invest in bitcoin at the bottom to get maximum profit as they know buy sure bitcoin will recover. But my opinion is ethereum is much better than bitcoin when thinking about its usability.
Many ICOs, transactions use ethereum due to low fees and speed compared to bitcoin. So I believe we can shift from bitcoin to ethereum

Because most of the people consider bitcoin as the king of crypto so it not a big wonder that other currencies follow the bitcoin, this is happening because of us we just keep bitcoin price movement as sign of investing on the crypto currencies. But there is no need that the altcoins should follow the bitcoins all the time even some time the altcoin is dumping the bitcoin bumped and vice versa.

According to market logic when it is seen that when bitcoin value drops or decreases demand in bitcoin it will cause altcoin also to decrease, because I think all altcoin or most altcoin use bitcoin as the exchange rate at their value so automatic demand on altcoin will also decrease.

It is not a "following" if you ask me. Its mutual, altcoins do not go up after bitcoin goes up, altcoins go up together with bitcoin, at the same time. Back in the day when bitcoin went down altcoins went up, and when bitcoin went up than altcoins went down.

These days they act together, noone follows each other, they act together in an harmony. It used to be a bitcoin market with other altcoins, nowadays its "cryptomarket" not bitcoin market. Coins like ethereum showed that bitcoin is not alone and there are other coins as well.

if you know when the year 2016 to 2009 where Bitcoin is created, the different way is not like what you talk about, the fact is Bitcoin down then Altcoins up and if Bitcoins up then Altcoins down, because at that time FIAT has not entered much against the exchange Bitcoin and Altcoins.

if for now there are many FIAT who go into cryptocurrency, many Exchange emerging and can be sure, when Bitcoin getting fewer, Altcoins lot and Fiat many circulating and Exchange also a lot then one way to induce Bitcoin as its King cryptocurrency.

That was the way it was before. Tether came and so they could escape quickly into the same value as USD which aint right for me.

Before they sell bitcoins to buy altcoins so there is this trend that says "bitcoin down, altcoin up". Which really happens because of that reason.
Now it seems both can go down and sell it for Tether. What can we do about it? None. We wait for those sellers to buy back to bitcoin, besides they wont have any profit leaving it with just Tether.

Every major crypto exchange offers Bitcoin trading pairs. Example: Ether/Bitcoin, Litecoin/Bitcoin and so on and on. Some of the exchanges like Bitrex allows you to trade Crypto for USDT  (USDT is a crypto currency allegedly pegged to the US Dollar.

Some of the exchanges allows you to trade Fiat to crypto such as Coinbase, CEX-IO and others. Some of the Altcoins have out performed Bitcoin on a short therm or during specific periods. But there is no coin that has performed consistently as Bitcoin. Most of the major Altcoins follow the same trend.
Bitcoin is the King and Queen and all the Altcoin are at best following it. Bitcoin is the number one coin and, so Bitcoin decides the market price in General. And this would imply that all other altcoins are kind of pointless. And we all know it is not true, because some of the Altcoin have a great technology such as Ethereum smart contracts.

Yes I think this is just because Bitcoin is the king of all cryptocurrency and is used as a medium of exchange in digital currency. We can not buy Altcoin if we do not use Bitcoin and Ethereum or dollars. Bitcoin is the largest digital currency, and most trusted for now. so, a decrease, or a high price increase will make a big impact on Altcoin.

when bitcoin rises then altcoin prices will also rise but when bitcoin prices fall, altcoin will also decrease as altcoin does not have the courage to do very much increase while rising bitcoin prices and i think altcoin many follow bitcoin price movements because altcoin price exchange depends on the bitcoin price
One thing which is true about the Bitcoin is its action like base currency and is known as base currency of the crypto market which has affect on other crypto coins. This is due to its nature which creates same perception on the whole market as all are digital currencies so increase or decrease in the Bitcoin will have affect on other currencies too. Experts say that this affect will finish in future with the passage of time when these technologies get more success.

1.) Bitcoin has become the "gold standard" because the market is young.
2.) Democratic Market Psychology in a speculative market behaves more like a herd than expected.
3.) People are afraid of altcoins falling, switching to BTC causing a panic sell but not a panic buy

Decoupling altcoins from Bitcoin isn't easy. Consider a majority of Altcoins can only be bought by using BTC, not USD. That's one reason why they do follow each other in terms of the ups and downs. The other aspect is that Bitcoin is the leader, and alt coins tend to follow the leader. If Bitcoin is going up then the rest of the market must be healthy so altcoins go up. If Bitcoin is crashing, there must be a reason... so all the alt coins crash. This is the basic mentality. The health of the market is psychologically dictated by leaders. And it's not the only space to follow this approach. The Tech Stock sector does the exact same thing, like it did this past week. Multiple tech stocks dropped together. There are certainly more aspects to this, but don't expect the market to change this mentality anytime soon. We need multiple large players before we have some resistance to this All or Nothing approach to the movement of cryptos.

Being the leader or king of crypto whatever happens to bitcoin same thing will happen to altcoins. Altcoins exist because of bitcoin so there's no doubt that market price depends on the value of bitcoin. Rarely we see that some coins are on the green while bitcoin is red in the market mostly goes with the value of bitcoin whether it's up or down. That's how influential bitcoin price is in the market.

When trading altcoin we have to always observe and monitor bitcoin prices, you can see that bitcoin prices are constantly fluctuating and adjusting very strongly in the past days. Only a small bitcoin modification can cause the price of altcoin to fall sharply or to adjust in very large amplitudes. Therefore, when dealing altcoin you must always keep track of the bitcoin to be able to handle any adverse situation.

This is completely understandable, whales are slowly manipulating the market with the large number of bitcoins they hold, is very simple to make bitcoin prices increase or decrease, most of the remaining coin is based on bitcoin, bitcoin is the king of digital money and they take advantage

I like that way you explained about this topic mate, though it was a parabolic explanation but I get what your trying to emphasize it mate.
all of them actually are true when Bitcoin down then majority of the altcoins goes down too. Because, If they didn't follow Bitcoin for sure that coins will sure die in value.

Yes the prices of Altcoins follow the price of Bitcoin. The main reason responsible for this is that the Altcoin and Bitcoin pairing is traded mostly. Bitcoin being the first ranking coin can be traded for other Altcoins. Thus Bitcoin is the centre of the crypto economy which affects all the Altcoin. In addition this, all major cryptocurrency exchanges offer Bitcoin and Altcoin trading pairs.  Bitcoin is considered as the hallmark of the whole crypto market which is also the reason of such actions.

I think that recently it becomes very clear that the efirium can take a leading position in the crypto currency market. But both alts and btc are still verry promosing when it comes to investments and other usage . however there are sometimes ( maybe a co incedence ) that alts and btc value are almost identical to each other , it is maybe a cause of market manipulation.

In my opinion bitcoin is the first cryptocurrency that becomes successful. Maybe bitcoin dump its price now but it can make it to recover its price and pump up.

Altcoins follow bitcoin most likely because of  Bitcoin is the king of crypto world. Bitcoin is the oldest Cryptocurrancy currency, and it is also the most successful currency with the highest potential and value, in addition, the Bitcoin market is the largest among the Cryptocurrancy market. So it is only natural that Altcoin follows Bitcoin and is influenced by the market and its price. All cryptocurrancy now move up and down at the same time. Just as prices are controlled by one group.

Theories? You don't have to think of it or any stories because it was so simple and some would know it by their own observations throughout any of this times. Bitcoin act as a leader and a leader and its fellow members supports and trust it so when it crumbles expect a big fast crumble will create a panic and loss its trust in bitcoins, the same on it way up.

That depends, which coin are you talking about? Not all altcoins follows Bitcoin when it is going up or down some of them don’t. It’s only all these major altcoins like ETH, BCH, LTC, Monero and XRP that usually follows the movement of Bitcoin up and down. Others will likely go down if Bitcoin is going up and still even go down when Bitcoin is going down lol. The only time you will see go up is when Bitcoin price is balanced.

Personally i also do not understand why all crypto now move going up and down by the same times. Just like the price controlled by one group. A few years ago actually price action of each crypto is much different,  but now they move bullish and bearish at the same times.
Most of the people are thinking that bitcoin is something like an indicator of health of cryptocurrencies market and if it is going down they think that all the cryptocurrencies are feeling bad right now and they lose their trust and become less demanded.

bitcoin attracts attention and makes it clear that he is a reliable asset. but those who want to buy cheap altcoin for the more expensive bitcoin-carry away the movement of these coins up, because they have already formed oversold

Bitcoin is a milestone for altcoin. if the price of bitcoin drop then the price of other cryptocurrency will also decrease. I think it's a natural thing that can happen anytime. price decreases and also rises in the world of cryptocurrency

I really can't give the whole technical details behind it but what I I know is this, Bitcoin is the first cryptocurrency and already been attached a higher value than any altcoins in the market. All altcoins have bitcoin pairs to trade with. This simply means that altcoins are all dependent on Bitcoin whether they want it or not. So when you observe the market you will notice that alts depends on Bitcoin a lot and follow it when it moves.

Market is so immature right now that people don't invest in the actual idea or use case. While utility backs the coin in long term, for traders/investors the present price influence is of more importance because they create trends. People right now invest according to bitcoin price movement because of its 40%+ market dominance. It has become a psychology that if Bitcoin moves up the market is in healthy situation, so there is an investment opportunity. Market will take time to mature when coins will be started to being valued according to their utility and use case instead of BTC price movement.

For me the reason why do the altcoins follow the bitcoin is because the bitcoin is the leader of all the coins in the market the bitcoin is the leading coin of all of. It has the highest price in the market. All of the investors invest in bitcoin because it gives a good profit, it is also the altcoin that has the easiest to used even it has a high fee not like the other coins it is not easy to used. Investing in bitcoin will give you a good profit.

It was because of ethereum that is tether to bitcoins and most of the altcoins today that has been released by ico's has a based price of ethereum so every altcoins in the market is affected when the price of bitcoins is dropping.

Bitcoin is the precursor of all the other altcoins. This is true because wherever  bitcoin leads the other altcoins will follow in the same direction. This has been happening even during the December rally altcoin exhibited their best outing then , just follow the trend to confirm your self.
The ones who are familiar with the history of thee crypto currencies must be very well aware of the fact that it was none other than that of the bitcoin which was the first ever crypto coin introduced to this world and that since that time, it is at the top of the list and is more or less like the backbone of the entire crypto market because of which, every other crypto coin is somehow dependent on this coin in different ways.

All coins have a simple relation. As bitcoin is the biggest coins off the market so it can be influenced altcoins. Normally when bitcoin drops then altcoins also drop or rock. At the moment altcoins remain green as bitcoin going drop day by day. Another reason is that bitcoin is the strong coin ever. So it has hot effect for altcoins.

because I think bitcoin has an effect on the price of altcoin and also the alternative to bitcoin and bitcoin is the first Cryptocurrency made therefore when bitcoin price increases all altcoin is also definitely increasing always following the market.

You can see that the market is currently in the downtrend stage, bitcoin prices are constantly fluctuating, only a small bitcoin adjustment can cause the market fluctuations very strong. You can see that the capitalization of altcoin at the moment is attributed to bitcoin, which is the main reason that bitcoin prices have increased and altcoin prices have fallen in recent days.

Bitcoin still takes half of the entire market for crypto currency. Naturally, when the main currency falls, investors panic sell altcoins. Now there are not enough altcoins which would have practical application, therefore the market is very speculative and strongly depends on the main currency. I hope that in a few years the situation will change.

It was hard to say that it can be change because bitcoin is what making cryptocurrency alive and being known. The altcoins based on bitcoin and yes, bitcoin takes all the money almost half of it that makes the capitulation in the altcoins deflates.

This could be manipulative.
Exactly this has been manipulated for so long time. I have been following bitcoin and other altcoins for so long time but this confusion is still a confusion. No one knows exactly or authentic that what is the real cause and reason behind this. What is the actual relation of bitcoin and altcoin? We need to solve this and we need to figure out what is reality that is hidden.

Because most of altcoins are shitcoins or not legit crypto project. But for me, it is also because, if Bitcoin is dumping, altcoins are also dumping because Bitcoin got very large market cap and most of the people nowadays are using Bitcoin to buy altcoins.

For me it is still just a theory that altcoins price is somehow connected to bitcoin downs and ups, that is only cause of whole market, bitcoin is going up when market has its recovers and that is why some altcoins "follow" price of bitcoin.

No, you have misunderstood, altcoin is now at the price of ETH, so the ETH decrease, the price of the atlcoin also sharply and vice versa, BTC less impact on the price of the atlcoin.

No, now you look at the market on coinmarketcap, they are now growing up contrary to each other, the current BTC price is rising but the whole market is falling, btc is blue and the remaining coin is tinged one Red. That is why many people still believe in BTC

Title: Re: Why do altcoins follow bitcoin?

Actually the reason behind this is all the altcoins, majority of them are paired with bitcoin as a medium of exchange.
So it's obvious that when btc rises people try to gain btc profits by selling their alts.
As long as alts are paired with btc it's quite obvious we'll see this type of trend.

Because Bitcoin is considered a benchmark, every Altcoin is based on it to show its worth. Bitcoin is like a king, and every Altcoin is a child of it. They always considered Bitcoin as a benchmark to set their prices.
I agree with you to some extend. As I think that bitcoin is a big hit in cryptocurrency field, it’s fame would be larger than altcoins. Although bitcoin is the oldest coin, it’s the prelude of the cryptocurrency and til now it kind of popular in  most parts of the world. Especially, we can’t deny its value is  much higher than altcoins, also the price is more expensive than others. The number of people joins in bitcoin market is pretty crowded, often people focus on bitcoin closely, thus when bitcoin market has any fluctuation, altcoins may follow to bitcoin’s direction.

I think this is a great post on why altcoins follow bitcoin. Bitcoin growth is an indication that altcoins are also reliable form of investment but when bitcoin drops, it has sort of ripple effect on all altcoins. that trunk analogy is great.

The foremost coin that got introduced was the bitcoins and the bitcoins really has a successful history on making advancement in the coins and the later on the coins which have been coming in the work is also due to bitcoins work process and if the bitcoins price seems to go down then whole the market comes into corrupt because one way or another every coin depends upon bitcoins and you will find fewer coins where the effect of bitcoin price is less affected over them but the altcoins are now under the eth so will say the same for that.
