Title: Non-scam Scrypt Miners
Post by: sup786 on February 01, 2014, 01:53:18 PM
Hello,

I am new to Scrypt Mining.  I am looking to invest in a Scrypt miner (LTC/Dogecoin).

Which ones are available and which companies are not scams??  I just saw a thread that Butterfly labs is also a scam (most likely).

Thanks all!

*Apologies if a similar thread already exists - but this is an important topic because a people can be scammed into spending thousands*

I was also interested in doing scrypt mining and came across an english company called Alpha Technology (http://www.alpha-t.net) that has a Viper Scrypt Miner that is supposed to hash at 5Mh/s. They have taken preorders and have sold out. I don't know anything about the credibility of the company and missed out on the pre-orders, but it should be interesting to keep an eye out on other bitcointalk members who did participate in the pre-orders to see what their experiences are when the miners start shipping this spring.

You can build GPU rigs for scrypt coin mining.

For the hashrate, you may check it here.

Thanks for the responses!

The Alpha-t looks like a scam.  Can anyone confirm that it's not?

Also any other scrypt miners coming out?

I'd be careful going with scrypt mining companies right now; at least until some have proven their worth. We have enough problems with the BTC ones. It's safer with Scrypt to simply build your own rigs.

Very much agree.
It is just too risky for you to make pre-orders from a new unproven manufacturer....

Furthermore that's preferable to wait for the first customer reviews, just my friendly reminder.

Well, if the whole thing is real, the manufacturer should send a few samples to trusted forum members.

Take this as an example. https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=421921.0
The OP on that thread sent out 3 units.

here is the name list for 3 pcs free review samples:
gmaxwell
Beastlymac
bobsag3
pls confirm your name, tel, address again by PM.

I am sure gmaxwell is not his alt account lol.  :D

On this note, be careful if others offer to send free samples. Someone in the past here did that to get people's addresses, then extorted them (threatening to mail them drugs and report it to the feds if they didn't pay a certain amount of BTC).

It was probably the middle of last year or so. It was a pretty bad situation.

The gridminers are reasonably well proven and are reasonably cheap for an entry level miner.

anyway, best for me is still to build up GPU rig, you can sell it later

silgle use chips become useless later and price is same, just count

btw friends, im in contact with case manufacturer and im trying to design 19" rack case for 6 gpu's, 2 PSU's and rest., front 120 or 140 fan, or better fully water-cooled rig
easy installation, good temps also for hot wether, coz im not fan of open rigs, despite of they look cool, its not good way, air flow is better than open air
