By default it's going to be BTC. I don't know if deamon offers mBTC yet, though it's output should state the unit, if options are avaliable.
What's suggested of course is not quite the proof that public addresses would be; I won't be convinced until I see the private keys for that.

The private keys? I highly doubt he will give you his private keys as proof haha :D

Early Adopter.  Could be. 

Only way to prove it is to post a signed message of a public key associated with those bitcoins.

wow surprising poll, I figured this forum was filled with bitcoin millionaires, when in fact most people little to no coin.

Wow. I don't suppose you'd be willing to donate a small tip to a small-time guy like me  ;) How long have you been in the bitcoin game? Any advice for those of us who are just starting off?

Potentially people value the coins relative to the price they bought them.
Those who know their coins came cheap, perhaps will understand better the need to spend those to kick start the economy and encourage merchants.

My reaction exactly. I wonder if the early adopters have already cashed out back when it broke $100. I know I'd be tempted!

1. We are still early adopters. I tell people this when they say, "Whoa, $800 for a coin is too expensive!" Price is simply a number that reflects supply and demand.

2. I have regretted mining purchases but never bitcoin purchases. Case in point I bought 65 coins back when the price was sub $100 to buy ASIC chips for a DIY mining project. The project fell through but I was able to get a refund, thank god. That was a stressful time--I should have held onto them in the first place. Also think how many people bought now-obsolete mining gear for hundreds of bitcoins before the price shot up to $1000. It's almost too painful to think about.

I don't know about that either. I'm pretty new, so I've only got about BTC0.10

Thanks for the advice. I've been a bit skeptical about investing in mining, but it seems like it would be a decent investment over a long-term period. Then again, there's no telling how the market will look over a long-term period, so investing in mining is probably high-risk.

I have > 8 BTC seperated into 8 smaller 1 BTC paper wallets, and the rest on my phone.

I've received over 2 BTC according to my blockchain wallet.

When I get some more rigs running im generating a whole coin and tossing it in offline storage.
Just incase they go up to a million $ a coin in my lifetime.

I regret not getting into BTC when I first heard about it. I was working at a major tech company when it launched and a group of my friends got into it. Tons of them were server admins so they got into mining. I was into other stuff at the time. Despite being fascinated and having money to spare, I didn't get involved.

Several years later, I'm finally getting involved. I still consider right now to be 'early adopter' territory. We're JUST now seeing some more mainstream acceptance (with Overstock and Tiger Direct, among others). I really enjoy BTC and cryptocurrencies overall being considered as the internet of money. Imagine getting in on the internet a few  years after its inception? Or television? I believe cryptos are just as revolutionary (if not moreso).

For that matter, making any type of income online (BTC or otherwise) is still early adopter territory in the grand scheme of things. As far as I'm concerned, widespread high speed internet is little more than a decade old. Most of humanity still isn't online. If you can tap the internet to earn an income, that's cutting edge of humanity shit.

Anyway, I'm rambling. My point is - we're still early adopters in BTC. Invest what you can when you can. The price is always going to fluctuate. Stop worrying about the BTC/USD number and look more at what you can do with it.

Let's adopt BTC as a currency, not as a commodity. That's certainly still early adopter territory.

There are probably plenty of people on this forum who might have easily become millionaires if they'd held. You'd either have to had foresight, forgotten about it, didn't really care or were a true believer to have gathered over 1000 and clung to them all this time.

If you'd bought at 6 cents it would've been mighty hard to resist selling when it got to $1. Rinse and repeat all the way up to today.

I think it's easy to forget how precarious and close to failure Bitcoin looked at various times. Right now is a great time to buy. It's never looked stronger and 1 BTC is still within reach for many people.

It's also surprising that bitcoin millionaires don't come here to brag about their wealth. They must be some sort of weirdos. I bet if this were a "How much money you're worth?" thread, they would be all over this thread bragging about their fancy cars, fast women, and goat ranches. What is always interesting is stories of early adopters and how much they got to keep of their bitcoins, it is also possible that we are still all quite early adopters

If anyone is keeping that much money in bitcoin, most likely they are either already quite wealthy in fiat, or the money is the result of illicit activities. Otherwise the risk of holding is just too high for any rational person to tolerate.

Exactly. And besides... why brag if you own a large sum of coins? All you'd be doing is marking yourself as a target. I'll never share the number of coins in my cold storage. It's my number and nobody can have it.

Sometimes I see people betting on Prime Dice with whole BTC. I think that's a pretty millionaire move. Definitely way outside of my tax bracket!
