My speculation that Bitcoin will hit $600  (non-gox price) before the end of 3-22-14 HST.

Willing to put up 2 BTC to bet anyone on this call for fun (yes I know it isn't much but it's for the fun of it).

I'm a longer term bull but to make things a little interesting I've put forward this bet.

Will only accept bet with a user who has been on this forum for longer than 1 year's time. Escrow will be used for this.

In case no one accepts the bet in a reasonable amount of time, the offer expires February 5th, 2014 HST.

If you are using escrow, why would you require that the user has been on the forum for longer than 1 year?

Good point. Let's revise that. Let's say anyone can make the bet but we must use a reputable escrow.

Can you clarify?  When you say $600, do you mean in the $600s?  Or do you mean it will hit equal to or less than $600 some time prior to March 22?  

How about if the price on BitStamp at any point between now and March 22 starts with a $5xx, then you win the bet, otherwise you lose.   So if BitStamp hits $599.99, then you win; but if the low point is $600.00 or greater, then you lose.  (Not saying I want to take this bet, just trying to clarify the finer details).  

Let's use btc-e and bitstamp rates. If any of them touch $600 exactly or lower I win. If it doesn't I lose. Simple.

What if it goes to $550 but MISSES $600?  I mean maybe there are no bids at 600 exactly?  And what do you mean by "Bitcoin"?  Do you mean the market cap of all bitcoins or a single coin?  And what currency are you using?  You know, some other countries (Brazil for instance) use the $ symbol.

i'd be inclined to take the bet if it didnt include btc-e price

just like the december crash, stamp could go easily go lower than btce, possibly due to long squeezes.

Bitcoin is a bubble, it is declining, and I think OP is VERY optimistic. I think it will go to around $500 bucks.

This is a hero member, so the only modification to the terms is the escrow clause. If the OP doesn't take this, he's a pussy.

Once both parties get their BTC to escrow the bet is official.

I never bet on bitcoin NOT being volatile, but I do think the upside risk is lower than the downside. Kinda funny. I have my life savings in an unregulated cryptocurrency that can swing >70% in a week, but I'm a pussy  :P  I'd say good luck, but I hope you lose. A dip that big would be bad for merchant adoption at this critical period. Bitcoin would survive but be set back a number of months. I'll be buying if it dips below $780 to help prevent that from happening.

I agree with this, i think we're going to see $500-$600 range again. I'm still not convinced we can keep going up without the price bottoming out one more time, It's not unrealistic to expect this price. Especially if positive news come out of china, think about it big investors dont want to buy BTC for $800-$1000, they want to get in cheap to maximize their long term returns, so they will manipulate the market accordingly.


But i don't agree with those calling for $200-$300 , that will require a massive event that threatens Bitcoin's existence

the smart investors already had their cheap bitcoins......twice. 550 and 350. we could go back again, or we could be on the next wave. neither would surprise me. I think it's a pretty fair bet.

So many probable circumstances that can make bitcoin dip below 600, it's almost guaranteed.

Then you should bet as well, if it's almost guaranteed. Talk is cheap.

We all know that Bitcoin's meteoric rise was based largely on restriction of supply in typical cornered market form and all but the most blinded bull-tards can take a quick glance at the charts and see that things are looking pretty bearish for the coming weeks. To add to this, the long term RSI stochastic, the MACD, and the KDJ indicators are all pointing towards yet more down-time (they are screaming SELL SELL SELL).

All this talk of China ban hammer coming into full force, MtGox going down the tubes etc is besides the point. Bitcoin doesn't need a Black Swan event to make it correct much lower, it needs a Black Swan event to keep it held up or push it higher.

If any of those vocal 'HODLERS' out there think that Bitcoin is a pinch at $820, then they are welcome to pile in with so much capital until their hearts are content. Just think of the poor whales who have their annual yacht mooring bills coming up, they cant cover that with Bitcoins; they need your fiat now! Of course, the vocal HODLERS aren't in the market for ploughing fresh capital into Bitcoin, they simply recommend that everyone does but guess what? Everyone else isn't.

The new fiat entering exchanges can barely sustain the current prices, if there is no significant increase in bitcoin supply.
During January Google trends for bitcoin was in the 23 - 38 range, while litecoin did a bit worse (but didn't crash yet),
and dogecoin much better (up to to 100, recently at 50). So any real bad news that would bring a sudden influx of
bitcoins into the exchanges could tip the balance downwards.

To answer your question we are not using Gox numbers at all. In my view it is BS prices. Bitstamp and BTC-e prices will be used.

please explain how if OP lists his bitcoin for sale for $599 on bitstamp and someone buys it, that bitstamp wouldn't show $599 as a sale price.

my exchange doesn't let me cut through the orderbook for any specific order. If the price is 900 and I set an ask at 600, it'd get sold at $900

the seller doesn't set the price he wants to sell it for?? i guess it depends on volume.  if there's bids for $900, and you list for $600 it would sell at $900.
