Title: Is Bitcoin Hack Proof or Not?
Post by: haimefx on June 12, 2018, 06:16:50 PM
As bitcoin and cryptocurrencies are becoming popular every blessed day and have caught the attention of Government and other regulatory authorities looking into how the market could be regulated. A lot of people are entering crypto and often one of the important questions noobs(new) ask is that if they invest in cryptocurrency, is their money and will they not wake one day and their bitcoins are gone. I will try to answer this question and give reasons why bitcoin itself is hack proof.

Bitcoin is a digital currency in which transactions are encrypted using cryptography. The concept was developed in 2009 by an unknown cryptography engineer named Satoshi Nakamoto. He launched this digital currency with a vision to create a peer to peer digital currency that will be free from a central authority or a single administration. These features of bitcoin has made it to gain widespread adoption. Bitcoin itself is hack proof as the technology behind it, the blockchain makes it extremely resistible to hack. Once the blockchain verifies transactions on it, nobody can change the transactions.

But people claim there are still cases of reported bitcoin hacks but here there is misconception to what is referred to as bitcoin hacks. Hacks happen due to compromising of private(owner) key or password to a third party by the person in possession of the bitcoin. What I mean by this is that if you are careless with your wallets; where you save your bitcoin, an hacker or scammer might get access to the email address link to your wallet, access and get away with your bitcoin. People have lost their bitcoin as a result of this. Bitcoin can also be lost during the process of transactions on an exchange. Hackers can simply hijack the exchange and also steal innocent parties bitcoins. A famous example is the hack of Mt Gox Exchange.

So bitcoin itself is almost impossible to hack and it is extremely hack proof, the hacking of bitcoin comes from breach in wallets and transaction processes. It is important to take security measurements to protect one's assets.

it's very unlikely bitcoin can be hacked. What can be hacked are the wallets where you store bitcoin. The only known vulnerability of bitcoin is possibiity of 51% attack, which is also pretty unlikely at this stage

It is nearly impossible to hack the bitcoin network and steal . The real problem is not everyone understand bitcoins. You will need to find the private key for a particular public address. The possibilities are limitless. The major problem is not everyone understands how bitcoin works which makes them to make choices that exposes them to fraud.

it seems that bitcoin will never get stolen or hacked because of the very high bitcoin security level makes bitcoin very difficult to steal, bitcoin has a high snagat snippet that makes bitcoin very safe.

yes I think the main factor is how someone can lose their wallet by scaming, because it is almost impossible to hack a complicated algorithm system

As long as any private keys or addresses is not leaked then Bitcoin is hack proof. And dont worry your addresses or keys can not be hacked because it has very complicated algorithm. The only chance of leaking private keys is by scam or intentionally given.

Bitcoin is not hacker proof, over the past few years there have been reports of bitcoin crimes,a few bitcoin data bases have been hacked,so it's not possible to say it's hacker proof, you can protect yourself by not giving out your wallet password and I d.

This interest me too.
Some years ago during the time of an online Market known as Silk road, Bitcoin was allegedly stolen from the their Wallet. Seems it was a  hack? It makes me wonder if that means Bitcoin has been hacked before and can be hacked again. Here is a post on the hack: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=463896.0

There are two Bitcoins:

Bitcoin protocol: The technology that makes up the protocol.
Bitcoin blockchain: The most popular implementation of the technology.
The Bitcoin protocol uses cryptographic technology that has not yet been hacked. (If it were hacked, there are much bigger problems to worry about).

The Bitcoin blockchain relies on a network of operators to make sure the blockchain/ledger/database tracking BTC accounts and balances is current and reliable.

What makes the Bitcoin blockchain theoretically reliable is that no single operator can make unilateral changes to the database. To do so would require controlling a majority of the computing power used to validate changes to the database.

There's a wrong concept in your question. The Bitcoin actually can't be hacked, it's too hard and difficult; what hackers do is put a trojan in some junk mail which the user open, steal all the info about the wallet (address, password, etc) and transfer to 2 or 4 accounts in order to lose tracks.

This is something very common and usually the targets are people who have a big amount of BTC in one account.

More likely than a double-spend hack is that the perceived anonymity of bitcoin transactions will be "hacked" via traffic pattern analysis tools.

Every transaction is public forever, and it's quite easy to follow the correlation of keys to individuals with a little bit of code.  Bitcoin's nowhere near as anonymous (or even pseudonymous) as people treat it.

There is a big difference between hacking BITCOIN and stealing BITCOIN. One need to understand that BITCOIN can not be hacked however it can be stolen from your exchange wallet, your cloud bases wallet or any other source where the internet can reach. If you want to save your BITCOIN you can store them in hardware wallets like trezzor or ledger s. So BITCOIN can not be hacked, it can be stolen and transferred from your wallet to the hacker's wallet

Can’t hack the BTC blockchain, but it is doable to hack some exchanges, and individual wallets, especially online wallets. It could be done when a security supported by these home-grown exchanges is not adequate.

There is a possibility that your bitcoin will be hacked if you give your private key everything in your wallet will be lost for you to keep your private key if I ask bitcoin for hacking difficult because it is a crypto currency .

the only way to get hack is if the hackers find a way to get your private key, or you get manipulated to give your private key unintentionally.

So bitcoin itself is almost impossible to hack and it is extremely hack proof, the hacking of bitcoin comes from breach in wallets and transaction processes.

what does the bold part mean?!!
and this statement is misleading if not wrong. bitcoin IS unhackable period. 9 years of secure bitcoin after millions of hackers trying to hack it is  the proof of that.
all the things you read has nothing to do with wallets nor whatever that bold part means. the reasons for all of them is one thing: human error.
for example when you don't use cold storage and instead store your bitcoin on your desktop and then download some malware you can't say it was a "breach in my wallet". the reason was you not being careful.

Yes, Bitcoin is not hackable but the place when you store your bitcoins can be. Just like in a low security exchanges, Or in a desktop where you save your password. the hacker can only do is to steal your desktop data by sending you a fake software update.

Bitcoin is not hackable, exchanges and wallets are - you better keep your Bitcoins into a cold storage.

Nothing is hack-proof but BTC is so hack-resistant that it can be considered hack-proof for daily purposes. There of course is always a chance that new technology will scale computing power in one region so much that 51% will be possible (for example new type of computer that can main much faster but only one company has them)

Bitcoin is not hacked if you don't share your wallet key to others. Bitcoin security system is very hard.

Technically, blockchains are not unhackable, but it's extremely hard and expensive to pull off. An example are Sybil attacks, and again, this is highly improbable. Another example is an attack through ISPs, since nodes are relatively centralized.

For the most part, reported hacks happen in exchanges and wallets, not in the blockchain itself.

i think you are confusing "hack" with "attack" these are two different things.
a hack is called to something like your computer getting hacked and you lose sensitive information such as your passwords, private keys, money,...
an attack like the ones you listed here such as Sybil attack, the results of an attack are not severe as a hack and most of them don't even end up in losing anything.

as a simple example, DDoS "Attack" against a website only puts it out of service for a short time. but a website "Hack" means you change the things on that site, steal something like user information,...

The technology behind it is secure - for the current time. If quantum computers are developed then we might be looking at a different story. The thing with technology, though, is it evolves. If something were to happen to show that Btc was exploitable, there would be a fork or a replacement that wasn't vulnerable to that hack.

Currently, I'm not too concerned about it - I think we're a long ways from having the type of computer necessary to do this sort of thing.

how they hack person bitcoins.lets see here
They send mass email to users , whenever person click on link and open website , then some virus come and injected into computer and that stole all data.In this year million of accounts hacked so far due to phishing emails. Many users lost money by giving private key , or filling private key in other websites.

To save our money - Servers are required to install powerful antivirus to avoid scam and various types of virus injected into websites it can be by link also.
But bitcoin technology will change the world when it will widely accepted - more demand = more price of bitcoin

Yeah,  this is a lot of information that you may use to find if the bitcoin is a hack proof or not. But actually bitcoin is basically hack proof or hackable by anyone because of the technology what we have today. This may help us and also this may harm us by the terms of hackable. There are many ways to determined on how it can be done by the hacker and they will never leave anything from you.

I guess bitcoin is hack proof because of its high security, and maybe its important that its hack proof because there are so many people who are in this. Once it got hacked everyone is possible to be hacked.

Nothing in this world is actually hack proof as log as it is connected to a server or to a network there would still be a way to infiltrate or for a lack of a term to hack it. With a server it means that it runs on codes and codes can either be brute forced, inserted with a virus or a trojan or a worm to scoop up some valuable information or via a tumbler to completely break down the lockand have it open like a safe in which they can siphon up the precious bitcoin insode.

So the question is if bitcoin is hack proof or not !
.
The first thing i want to say that Till now there is no way of tracking Bitcoin transaction . There is not even any way to know where it comes from or goes . So it is absolutely impossible to trace the trade and the machine .. So there is no way of hacking it online or offline ..

Yes there is a way of hacking the coins if someone knows your wallet address and password of that there is a high chance of getting your bitcoins hacked ..

Right now, the proof-of-work hashing algorithm is essentially hack proof, as it features 256 bits of encryption, which is well beyond the level that can be reasonably cracked even by the most powerful supercomputers. However, it's only matter of time until SHA-256 is cracked by brute force, possibly earlier if a genuine quantum computer goes online, but doesn't seem like this will happen any time soon as Google's D-wave isn't a real quantum processor.

I think even if something is so much secured, it is still made my man so there is a chance that it can be hacked.Security is man made so man can also make a way so that he can hack things like bitcoin or those online wallets. Technology is always progressing so we cannot always assure of the security of bitcoin. Although it is difficult to hack it for now.

As of this moment of this technology we have right now Bitcoin is still not hackable the decentralization of Distributed ledger technology like blockchain is what makes the bitcoin more secure for what we have heard or read from the news like hackers steal millions of bitcoins it is because the security issue of the exchanges and leaking private key but the blockchain data is still intact and unaltered.

Well, theoretically it could be hacked for double spending for example and refusable transactions, but it's wide descentralized and spread for alot of big wallets. But i a major group of individuals wanted to join in order to get a 51% total mining power (lets say all the chinese farmers joined together) probably they could be at least 51% of they mining hash power of the network and could stop validations etc etc..

Unlikely. Bitcoin cannot be hacked. What is being hacked are exchanges where you try to store your cryptos. and i think online wallets also. Just always be cautious with your transactions and safeguard you bitcoins.

it seems that bitcoin will never get stolen or hacked because of the very high bitcoin security level makes bitcoin very difficult to steal, bitcoin has a high snagat snippet that makes bitcoin very safe.
your right bitcoin has the highest security level the would be difficult to hack unlikely in the bank its easy to hack into there system.

The transaction of bitcoin and bitcoin in itself is hack-proof due to the decentralized blockchain it is using. But you are right, could be due to complacency, carelessness or just plain stupidity that people get hacked with their wallets and passwords.

Bitcoin is not hackable because of its very secure network and technology behind blockchain, bitcoin transaction is P2P & send via complex mathematics data because every transaction is proceed via multiple computers network. but many time exchanges is hacked and holders loose money so we need to hold our bitcoins in hardware wallet.

No, Bitcoin is a hackable that's why government has great concern with this topic. Government want it to be much securer to use as a exchange system. but there are lots of project initiated to minimize the cyberthreats. If one of the project can do this then it will be a great achievement by the cryptocurrency.

It’s just a matter of carelessness from users who don’t use Bitcoin safely. The security hole is not in Bitcoin, but on the device he used to access the wallet. Because many Bitcoin users are new players in investment and resulted in many are scammed and don’t really understand about technology make them an easy target for scammers.

It's great if anyone can find the gap in Bitcoin and of course the blockchain in general, we should be grateful to him who has been struggling to find a security gap after a long time no one can penetrate it and finally the cowards are looking for another alternative, it’s human error that often happens and the victims claimed their Bitcoin had been hacked

I think bitcoin itself is hack-proof but the bitcoin wallet account provider can be hacked at any time, their are many kind of hacking that can stole your account and the most victim are thus are the exchange sites as they are been stolen hundred of bitcoin in the past years as a result of bitcoin crash.

I don't think you can call it 'hack proof' when there have been exploits discovered in the past and such. That doesn't mean it's not extremely secure though. But it's important to keep a realistic view of the situation.

I'm thinking logically if bitcoin is existing for already 10 years or more and yet it was packed at least once so there's made me believe that it is hacking proof or just safe from it otherwise they would just hack it long time ago.

There are crypto-currency trojans that sit monitoring your computer waiting for what looks like the format of a crypto-currency account number. When it spots one, it comes awake and replaces the intended account you are transferring value to with their account number. Unless you are very aware of the switch, it will be game over if you hit the Send button.

in fact, it is very simple to do. we must keep the information of our accounts in places we trust. we should not enter risky sites with the device that we entered our accounts.
