What happened:
Five days ago, user tobericher (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2165755.msg40000561#msg40000561) (=the victim) deposited 16 Bitcoin to BITMIXCOIN.IO (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=1141881) (=the scammer).
A few hours later, escrow zazarb announced (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2165755.msg39746120#msg39746120) that he returned the 5 Bitcoin escrow he was holding for Bitmixcoin.
Yesterday, user tobericher posted for the first time, claiming his email about his 16 Bitcoin deposit was ignored by Bitmixcoin.
Today, tobericher emailed me his Letter of Guarantee, which I've verified to be authentic. I can confirm he sent 16 Bitcoin to Bitmixcoin's deposit address, and never received his mixed coins.

Amount Scammed:
16 Bitcoin, but if this is an exit scam, the total will go up much more. They claimed their weekly mixed amount (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2165755.msg34820165#msg34820165) was around 2500 Bitcoin.

Additional Notes:
The timing looks very much like an exit scam: wait until a big deposit comes in, take back the escrowed amount, and stop withdrawals.
If this is a technical glitch, please send the funds to the right address and I'll confirm that here.
It's not a technical glitch, scammer BITMIXCOIN.IO denies (https://archive.is/eagRg#selection-2125.0-2125.38) having received the deposit.

I do hope that this is not an exit scam simply because of the fact that there will likely be many more victims that will have to suffer as a result, and the amounts are going to end up being extremely big.

However, the correlation between the time when escrow is withdrawn by Bitmixcoin, and when the 16 BTC deposit was essentially delayed for 5+ days with apparently no competent support is too good to be a coincidence. The whole escrow thing by zazarb may have just been a thing done to falsely gain trust of people, since what good is that if they are able to withdraw that 5 BTC escrow at any time?

I think that we should give Bitmixcoin some more time to respond, though, before labelling this as a scam. But 4 days already elapsed since the deposit of the victim, so it goes without saying that it's safer to just not use their service at all for the time being.

Agreed. But until they respond, my red trust serves at a warning, and I'd gladly remove it if things are sorted out.

Please publish the letter of guarantee, which pretty easily can be manipulated or faked.

I have read the letter of guarantee so I can confirm that an address posted by bitmixcoin.io was sent 16+ btc.

If I remember correctly their plan was absolutely different and suddenly owner changed it. He waa claiming that escrow would grew from 10 bitcoin to 100 bitcoin once they become famous. But he got escrow back and claimed they were famous and it wasn't needed.
There is no doubt it's an exit scam, they just won in time too, no one looks everytime what's happening in their ANN thread.

I'm pretty sure an exit scam was the plan all along.

He also claimed to have 2500 Bitcoin, but refused to sign a message to prove any of it.

I'll just keep bumping this thread until he's at -64 or deeper. I've seen people get much more red much faster for much less.

Another victim:

I like how on the thread, they say that it's because LoyceV is an employee of Chipmixer (which isn't even the case) that he is somehow just creating all this drama, while completely disregarding the fact that the relevant proof is there and verified.

Safe to say that looking from their attitude alone, this is probably just an exit scam and they're trying to prolong the lifespan of it by getting in as many deposits as possible.

Claiming that they haven't received anything while there is evidence verified by both Vod and LoyceV is almost comical.

But anyways, be safe out there. Plenty of scam mixers, and always make sure you research on the newest reviews before you use any mixer.

Bitmixer's clone took back escrowed funds because they gained "enough trust" and they stole 19BTC. Well played.

Little piece of advice here, btw: You are not building a strong image for your brand with the way you talk.
I'd expect something better from a public representative for a service supposedly trusted with several thousand btc each week.

They did, according to the letter of guarantee I have been forwarded.
I've verified said letter (was expecting a PGP, but apparently they only use bitcoin signed messages, meh),
and the deposit address signed in that letter has received a ~16BTC transaction over a week before bitmixcoin.io claimed to NOT have received the btc.

I can confirm, the user deposited 16BTC to an address signed by bitmixcoin.io and the funds have not yet reached to target destination also signed by bitmixcoin.io

The user has told us to deposit to other address via email, for security reasons we wont reveal this address.
We asked the user to connect and verify it.

What kind of verification did you ask from the user before you were willing to change their destination address for $100k worth of bitcoin?
If I send BTC to you for the purpose of mixing them, I expect them to reach their destination specified in the letter of guarantee, not be intercepted during the mixing and be rerouted.
With changing the destination you did break your own letter of guarantee. I hope you are aware of what a dangerous precedence you are setting here.

What if for example their email was hacked and you were not communicating with the user that had originally deposited those funds to your mixer?
You're taking a huge risk by letting users change from addresses which you have signed.

You pointed out decent possibilities however if his email address was hacked we will cover his 16 bitcoins lost.
We took a huge risk only for this specific deposit since chipmixer employee went rouge on us.

Also, how would he/she prove that their email was hacked? Wouldn't it be easy for said customer to simply claim his email was hacked and profit 16 BTC. (all assuming this isn't BS). It seems like you did not request anything provable such as a signed message from the address the funds were supposed to be forwarded to. There is no place on the site where you can submit your email before mixing.

If you didn't receive those 16 bitcoins why are you refunding him now without any objections? Or, more likely, why were you previously denying the fact that you received money from the user, when clearly it can be seen on the letter of guarantee that he has deposited it? Also, why did you make comments about how the letter of guarantee could be easily manipulated at the start of this accuastion instead of trying to address the situation sooner?


Anyways, don't think that everyone's on you just because of Chipmixer. It's because you are a shady business.

Just for the record, CG is useless when it comes to mixing, do not attempt to mix your coins via crypto.games
I much prefer bitblender.io for that purpose.
(I'm taking a piss here, in case it wasn't obvious. gamble wherever you want and mix your coins where you feel comfortable doing so)

- Why did you claim to have not received the 16 BTC, when clearly you did?
- What verification have you received to agree to change the receiving address for $100k worth of BTC?
- Do you really believe bitcoin signed messages can be easily faked? If so, can you give us an example, eg sign a message from an address I give you?

I was pointing at changing the story (haven't received bitcoins- received bitcoins).
Also, there is "user has never sent us email" VS "we settled everything via email".

Maybe bitmixcoin can show us emails(in case user never shows up)?

Emails are actually easy manipulated, unlike bitcoin signed messages. (though the headers would be incorrect, but I *think* you can manually edit the header if the email is controlled by you to make it appear legit)

One cannot be too careful when we when it comes to investing in ICOs or in crypto-related projects.16 Bitcoins is a lot.I just wished that in some how there is a way he can recover those bitcoin back.I read other peoples comments,it seem the experience is similar.

I don't think there's much we can do about it. The domain is registered through namecheap.com:
Namecheap.com shows: How to Report a Fraudulent Website to a Registrar (https://www.namecheap.com/blog/how-to-report-a-fraudulent-website-to-a-registrar/), but I highly doubt they'll act on it.
I don't want to send them someone else's Letter of Guarantee, and I doubt they'd be willing to verify those to confirm the theft.

I've submitted a Domain abuse complaint with namecheap earlier anyway.
Previously done so with Giveawayethereum.win and it was handled quickly, though that was a more clearly cut case, as they were hosting an illegal ponzi scheme.
We'll see how/if they handle this case.

I don't know if they can "repossess" .io domains, or just take the site offline until it moves to a different host.
