Title: Transfer Bitcoins
Post by: sunil_ad on June 14, 2018, 03:10:59 PM
Need some help. I want to move some BTC from a paper wallet to a Ledger Nano S.
I have only recently set the Ledger up so dont know whether I can directly do it.
Do I have to go to something like Electrum?
Replies are much appreciated

You have to import the private key into a wallet. Just download the electrum wallet (the easiest and fastest one in my opinion) and select 'Import Private Key' on the setup guide.

You can then send it to your trezor address.

Thanks. Now when the importing or better sweeping the private key, Electrum has a box to enter Address. Can I directly give the Ledger address there?

I believe you have to set up your nano with electrum first so it can detect it...

Be very careful if transfering high amounts.

1 - Reset your nano.
2 - Update the firmware.
3- Create a new PIN and set of words.
4- Download Electrum or Chrome Apps
5- Check the public address.
6- Reset your nano again (3 times incorrect PIN)
7- Insert your set of words and restore your wallet
8- Check if your public address is the same.
9- If the same, you are free to go.

Thank you for the reply.

So there seems to be danger in just accepting the given wallet address!

Appreciate the hint.

I tried to download Electrum for windows but what I get is an .exe file.
It does not have provisions about Ledger, just setting up a wallet in Electrum etc.
I wonder what I am missing.

The danger is that you may have misspelled some word.

Or, if you didn't bought from official retailer, someone could have hacked it. The best is to always update its firmware first, create a new wallet, reset it and restore it (to see if you can restore it, if you have the right seed).

You do have to install Electrum in Windows first. You're supposed to create a wallet with it. After choosing the wallet type you wish to create, you are given the option to use a hardware device. You shouldn't run into any problems if you follow the step-by-step tutorial.

Import that private key you wrote on the paper to a wallet then send it to your ledger address. You should be very careful as you don't know how to do it.

I was in the process of configuring the Electrum by running the Electrum Installation wizard according to the tutorial above.

After the Ledger Nano was detected I got :
"NoneType object has no attribute 'handler' "

I retried by restarting Electrum, reconnecting the ledger etc. to no avail.

Any ideas?
