Title: Ledger manager and Ledger Wallet Bitcoin
Post by: sunil_ad on June 14, 2018, 04:08:46 PM
I am configuring a new Ledger Nano S.

When I connect the Ledger to my laptop after installing the 2 Chrome extensions, Ledger Manager and Ledger Wallet Bitcoin, nothing happens.

But the extensions open when connected to another computer.

I have contacted Ledger support. As per their instructions:
I have disabled cookies.
Disabled Anti-virus, Vpn and firewall.
No change.

Appreciate your ideas.

Do the following steps (itīs a bit tricky)
1- Connect ledger nano.
2- Open app Ledger Wallet Bitcoin
3- Unlock with your PIN
4- Select Bitcoin in your ledger nano.
5- The app will unlock

The app will open only when you click bitcoin wallet in ledger nano.
If that doen't work, try to swift 2-3 steps. The most important is that you click on BITCOIN using your ledger nano while the Bitcoin Wallet App is running.

Personally, I think electrum is a better client than chrome app. It works very well with ledger nano, try it. It has an option to open a hardware wallet. Better for advanced users.

Have you set up the Ledger yet? The device configuration and setup happens completely on the device itself and does not require a computer or any interaction with a computer.

It only needs some power source from the usd cable. This source is usually a computer, but can be a smartphone too or anything else with a usb or similar connection.

After receiving your nano s the usual steps are in this order:

1. Connect your nano s to your computer
2. Initialize your nano s (on the device itself; backup your 24 words, set PIN, ...)
(3.) Disconnect your nano s
4. Download the required applications (which you have done correctly)
5. Open the Ledger Manager chrome application
6. Connect your nano s to your computer and enter your pin.

Then you should be able to choose which apps to download onto your nano device.

7. Choose Bitcoin application and install it on your device (you may be prompted to 'allow ledger manager', confirm)
8. Close ledger manager application
9. Open your bitcoin chrome application
10. Connect, unlock your nano s and open the Bitcoin app on it by pressing both buttons
11. Your wallet should load.

It might help if you can provide us more information at which point of this process you encouter a problem.

Do the ledger chrome applications not recognize your nano s (after Step 6) ?
In this case this probably is caused by some windows driver errors. To fix it, assuming you are on windows, you can open the device manager (Start -> enter 'device manager').
Look at 'Human interface devices' to find a device with a yellow exclamation mark, right click and remove it.

Then disconnect your nano s and connect it again. This does work in most cases where windows is not recognizing the nano s properly.

Although, the OP is online today but didn't provided an answer to Achow101 question if the problem is fix or not and I think it better to setup the ledger wallet first if you havent since the device new as you stated. However, ledger manager is just a complement app to the Ledger wallet though it allows the configuration of new wallets, adding altcoins and updating software on the ledger device.

Thank you for the comprehensive guide.

I can successfully follow all the steps on a computer.(windows 8.x , 64 bit)

But when it comes to my laptop  ( Windows 7, 32 bit)  I can't obtain 7.

Like your advice

Thanks for the response. I set up the Ledger already on one computer. I also installed Ledger Manager and Ledger Wallet Bitcoin successfully.
But I can't connect to these Chrome Extensions when on my laptop.

What can be the problem?

I could not find anything under Human interface devices either. The only entry there says "Usb input device"

Does a device with a yellow exclamation mark appear the moment you plug in and unlock(!) your nano s?

If yes, then remove this device from the device manager (right click -> uninstall device). The driver will be automatically installed the next time you plug it in (hopefully without any errors).

Or does a device appear which does NOT have a yellow exclamation mark? In this case the driver should be fine. May not be windows' fault in this case.

Or does nothing appear at all in your device manager when you plug it in? This may be caused by a wrong cable (power cable are not equal to data transfer cable) or a broken USB port.

Nothing appears under Human Interface devices.  The port I have tested and works ok. So maybe I should change the cable. But this cable worked with another computer.

It only appears under Human interface devices after its unlocked by the PIN and the Bitcoin wallet selected (on the ledger device).

For me, it appears after it is connected and unlocked. No application on the nano s has to be opened (at least with my setup).

@OP: It may also appear under USB-controller. Does something appear ANYWHERE when you plug in / unlock your nano s ?
Do you hear the windows sound (the sound you always here when plugging in a USB device) ?

I am very grateful for saving my day. Now it is ok!
