Title: Is cryptocurrency ever going to replace Fiat?
Post by: Vjatri on June 14, 2018, 04:29:22 PM
Cryptocurrency is the future of all payment method due to the decentralized nature which grants financial freedom and power to the people. However, for it to replace cash or the Fiat, it will take years of awareness creation. Up to date, some people do not have access to internet whereas others do not know how to access it.

Hello, my opinion, I say Yes, it's possible! The cryptocurrency will become a popular payment method, Today, technology is growing and awareness of people is rising, so we just need a short time! It also depends on the level of acceptance of the user.

Nah, but it can play a big role in the worlds monetary system. The fact is that banks will be against it as it is endangering their existence. And its slow adoption and disinterest of the people will also be a big obstacle to overcome.

your statement is right. If we want to see cryptocurrency as fiat money it should raise awareness all over the world so that more people will involve in it. But as know that only 2% of people are aware of cryptocurrency, it will take a of of time to reach that position.

There many fintech projects on the blockchain that seek to make cryptocurrencies a good substitute to fiat. The only thing that is making fiat have an edge over the fiat today is that they cannot be spent adequately for day-to-day activities.

i think we would rather accept to use both and not necessarily one replacing the other. The world currently does not have the capacity to run only on cryptocurrency in everything that we do. Cryptocurrencies require the use of internet connectivity which places like Africa don't have much to talk about.

No. That is very much impossible thing to happen. Crypto currencies are not meant for that purpose because they are not having those characters which fiat is having. The fiat is very stable and regulated currency, they are systematic in their work and balances the economic stress properly. This is what we want from the crypto currencies first then only we can say that they will replace it.
Crypto currencies need to be regulated first, not just regulated but highly regulated one! They can get into the real world only after that and all we know that they are currently decentralised one and work on the public ledger. So its obvious that it wont work.

It takes time to learn cryptocurrency because cryptocurrency is based on technology that is quite complicated when done by parents and children. And cryptocurency cannot replace FIAT because FIAT is the legal state currency.

It takes time to trust it and this is the reason why many doesn't take a part of it. But going to the part of cryptocurrencies replacing fiat money, I still can't say if its going to happen but there's a possibility but with certain pros and cons that the government has to study first. Though there's already a technology about having cashless transactions and we are bound there. Idea can be like crypto's which will the government apply soon.

Yes, probably years will pass before we will be able to pay with cryptocurrencies for our goods and bills. But this day may not even ever come if people continue to treat cryptocurrencies the way they mainly do nowadays. Most of people in crypto community are holders and traders. They are interested in profits they can eventually hope to convert to fiat, not in replacing fiat. Our company wants to contribute to the adoption of cryptocurrencies. We will replace the payments that are currently proceeding in fiat into crypto payments, because they are a lot faster, cheaper and more efficient.

I think they won’t replace fiat money for a very long time. BUT there will be parallel economies independent from government’s violence and people will use all sorts of currencies to voluntary trade with each other.

Decentralization cannot be technically stopped (unless you destroy the Internet) so it’s just a matter of time when governments will become obsolete/irrelevant, and perhaps even slowly die out.

First, the government must solve the problem about poverty then maybe replacing fiat with cryptocurrency can be possible.

cryptocurrency  will replace fiat in the future . you will agree with me that the only thing in life that is permanent is change which is inevitable . the history of currency is changing from decade to decade ,in the old days there is what we called trade by barter where you have to exchange goods for goods , after then  it change to coins  as a mean of exchange , now recent time is now paper money as a means of exchange , we are now moving to digital money which is cryptocurrency.

Nope, most likely cryptocurrency is used as an alternative payment system from fiat. This will also depend on the regulations of each government to accept or not to accept cryptocurrency. Untill now, government regulation is an obstacle for cryptocurrency to grow and be recognized by many people. For people living in countries where using cryptocurrency is prohibited, there will be a lot of media or information that expresses negative information about cryptocurrency.

I don't think it will totally replace fiat, as cryptocurrency is digital and you can't literally pay with it everywhere, as you mentioned there is no internet in most of places. Although may be in 100 years or so everything is possible, but I doubt it. Many countries government will fight for fiat money to exist

It's possible to be honest. But I think fiat money and cryptocurrency should still cooperate and operate. We can't live the other one while making great things with the other one. Since there are a lot of companies that accept bitcoin as a payment which is a great step for all of us and the companies.

Yes, I think so, but we cannot see this will happen in the short time because we need each government from all country to accepting cryptocurrency as a new currency for their country. As you said, we need an internet connection to access cryptocurrency, and without that, the small country cannot use cryptocurrency. So it needs time before this could happen in the future and I think the governments need to build more infrastructure so their people can easily to access the internet.

I would like to say my point of view, it will not replace FIAT in all matters even a hundred years of promotion, this is because FIAT is a government assets backed by GOLD, it is the only currency that is backed by the government. Talking about crypto, yes it can be a payment option only for most transactions only, but it does not mean it will replace FIAT in all sense.

Would be interesting to see the statistics of number of transactions paid in crypto, compared to regular.  I guess, this percentage is still so small that it will take a very long time for crypto to replace the notes. Also, all  the countries would have to change their policies towards cryptocurrencies. And very poor countries are very far from buying bread with bitcoins. Therefore, there’s a long way to go

cryptocurrency as we know it today will never replace fiat. because cryptocurrency is two things:
- bitcoin which is the only currency that works fine but it is never meant to replace fiat so it will never do that.
- altcoins which are not even currencies to want to replace fiat and for many years we will remain in the same market where people are only interested in pumping altcoins more than anything else because of the money they can make from it.

All changes in the human mentality need time. Increasing the awareness of people regarding the use of cryptocurrencies as a payment method will certainly have a positive impact on their greater popularity. However, decentralization may be the reason why financial institutions controlling the flow of money may be a resistance to the development of cryptocurrency payments.

While cryptocurrency might be the future I dont think it can replace fiat. Fiat has been here for too long and has establish a lot just to be replaced by something new and fresh. Although I believe cryptocurrency will become an alternative instead of it replacing fiat. Fiat and cryptocurrency will go hand in hand one day.
Even with cryptocurrency being the future of payment, it obviously will not cut across every faction globally, and it would even take time before we even started seeing a wide usage as some are limited to technologies and facilities that would not make them even have an understanding of what cryptocurrency is.

What i see is that cryptocurrency will end up being an alternative to fiat when it comes to spending. There would be some group in the world that would obviously get to be using cryptocurrency for their daily lives and there would be some that would most definitely be stuck with fiat or mixing both one way or the other.

So I believe that cryptocurrency will never be able to replace fiat unless they become perfect and convenient for us to use.

Go to the reliable news site and watch the whole news about that. you are talking bullshit about that.
1 lack of regulation support from the government.
2 It's not even getting wide adoption from a lot of merchants or companies.
3 Not enough scalability
4 volatility

Does sound make sense for you to replace the fully regulated stable real currency just like fiat with crypto right now? some people said it's almost impossible.

Cryptocurrency is the future of all payment method due to the decentralized nature which grants financial freedom and power to the people. However, for it to replace cash or the Fiat, it will take years of awareness creation. Up to date, some people do not have access to internet whereas others do not know how to access it.

We will not even see it happening at all. It is not like we can see the future though, but it is one thing to be realistic and know that no matter what government worldwide will not just allow decentralization which is what cryptocurrency is all about to just be in the front light for everyone to use and then getting to see fiat being discarded.

We all know how government wants the control and the way I see it, cryptocurrency will apparently just go hand in hand with fiat, while the space is regulated so as to curtail some negative activities within the space.

It is a very long shot, but remember the only constant thing in the world is change, which means anything can happen regarding cryptocurrency. The fact that people want financial freedom and decentralized mode of payments which is offered   by cryptocurrency shows that it is surely going to be a reality. Replacing fiat? A very long shot but is not impossible.

Cryptocurrencies are much more reliable than fiat currencies. In a few years when the governments of all countries realize how profitable this may be for them, cryptocurrency will forever replace paper money.
It may replace fiat but i think it may take some time. Volatility of cryptocurrency will make it hard for government to control and regulate it.

Cryptocurrency is the future but not all the payment. Just think of isolated areas in different countries that does not know about the idea of internet? even we are on technological age we cannot deny the fact that there are still some group of people who does not welcome the uses of technology such as tribes for example Africa and Asian countries who are known as a very cultured countries. It would take a long long time for fiat to be a cryptocurrency.

While cryptocurrencies are without a doubt taking over the financial market, it will take a lifetime for them to take over FIAT currency in the real sense. The fact remains that fiat has been around for centuries and people are comfortable and used to the idea of giving paper money for services/products. Moreover, a lot of cultures aren't ready to adopt cryptos because they think there's something wrong with it. But whatever the case, if it does happen, it will take a really long time.

Cryptocurrency can never replace the national money of states. It is designed to create an alternative payment system, and not to replace the existing payment system. Due to many reasons, including high volatility, decentralized cryptocurrency will never replace fiat. Here our desire is small. Cryptocurrency can not support the development of the economy of a particular state, because it has nothing to do with it. Therefore, governments will never decide on such a replacement.

Fiat as we know it will not be replaced by the crypto currencies like Bitcoin.

~but~

Fiat is money for which the government decides (more or less directly) its value. Crypto is easy to build up and handle.

Just look at Venezuela. Centralized, government backed crypto is cheaper than bills and doesn't require expensive 3rd party (like Visa, WU..) and it's not unlikely to see in a not so far future such crypto coins become the new generation of fiat.

How will such people use cryptocurrencies and who will refund their funds if they forget / lose their wallet address or steal money from them? I don’t think that cryptocurrencies will force out Fiat, but they can exist with it at the same time.

It is very far for cryptocurrencies to replace fiat currency, this is because , cryptocurrencies are not fully recognized and accepted worldwide , so cryptocurrencies will be only used to high develop places with abundance of internet access.
I don't think so that cryptocurrency will ever replace fiat. I mean it could be possible but in near future that thing doesn't happen. Their are a lot of consequences behind this. First of all crypto-currencies is not accept worldwide, it still ban in many country and it is still it doesn't fully legal. Another reason behind is cryptocurrency are highly volatile in nature and because of this it price fluctuate time to time and this thing ultimately affects the global economy. And cryptocurrency complex nature is one of the main reasons behind this topic.

Do you remember pizza for 10000 btc and silk road. It was a beginning off goods/crypto exchange and crypto became a mean of payment. Everything in your hands, popularize crypto and you will see that in a few years people forget about fiat.
Do not deceive yourself mate as I believe there is no one who will end up forgetting fiat for anything at all as it is not everyone in the whole world that will basically have access to the crypto space due to one limitation or the other, and even for those who are in this space now, even with real life usage, there would still always be that occasion when fiat will be needed, and in that case, I believe what we will eventually see would be fiat and crypto space going hand in hand, and all those things about cryptocurrency replacing fiat, is something that does not sound plausible.

No, I don't think so. We truly need both of them and we should not forget that fiat currency is part of a country sovereignty which will not be easy to take away from any country unless we all come together for one world digital currency.
We will always need both of them. This has been mentioned several times on this forum and plenty of reasons given as to why cryptocurrency will not be replacing fiat. Asides from the fact that government will find a way to limit it based on the fact that it is a decentralized space, we will still get to see the avenue in which not everyone will be knowledgeable enough to be able to easily utilize the space to their own advantage, so at the end, it would just be some faction of people using fiat and some using cryptocurrency.

Where we can change our money? The other will answer my question "Of course in the exchange site" My point is what if our grandmother or grandfather doesn't know about the crypto? For example, Grandfa I will give you 50ETH so you can buy any want now. And grandfa said "What is 50ETH? Is that a new form of money?" How do we explain to them?

Crypto investments are one of the fastest growing investments in the world but I don't think crypto is ever going to replace fiat simply because of the huge acceptance of fiat. It is backed by the government therefore fiat are accepted everywhere in the world. I don't think Bitcoin would ever be able to become that much popular.
Another advantages of fiat is its offline use. Fiat transactions don't require the use of Internet whereas Internet money is nothing without Internet.

No, it will not going to happen, in the first place, cryptocurrencies are decentralized, it has no third-party that can interfere with its transactions such as banks, financial institution, tax related organization and almost anyting. Unlike the fiat, there is something that has an access in order to take a control of it.

Even if government ends up legalizing cryptocurrency, it will end up being regulated and of course it will be limited in a way, so whichever way, there would always be a room for fiat.

Government love being in control, and trust me, there is absolutely no way they will make fiat end up being rendered useless, and even if they do not, there is actually no way fiat will become useless in the long run, as this is a system and one way or the other, it will keep being there and in the end, cryptocurrency will just be another alternative form of payment but we all know not everyone will end up using it due to some limitations or the other globally, and that simply still keep making fiat relevant.

You guys should stop deceiving yourself, this cannot happen. Over time, as the world keep advancing with blockchain technology, there is a huge possibility that most countries will move to using the blockchain technology to put together a proper payment system rather than printing paper currencies, and in this case, there would be more of a migration, and in the long run, we will just see cryptocurrency and these new form of fiat being in coexistence over time.

Hence the idea of trying to think that at some point in the long run, cryptocurrency will get to replace fiat, is not something that can be possible.
