Title: Has the bar been raised too high
Post by: bobR on March 15, 2011, 08:58:16 PM
Did the raise the bar .... again ??
my machines are struggling to find shares

Enough
It already costs at least double in  electricity to find any gold
What IDIOT keeps advancing the difficulty  ????????

It's better if difficulty is ridiculously high.

If you're only in this for the 'free money' then you're sure to be disappointed.

I don't know whether you're for real, or whether this is an elaborate troll, but just in case... RTM (https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Difficulty#How_often_does_the_difficulty_change?).

Nope, difficulty hasn't increased since last increase a couple days ago.

the difficulty has increased rapidly as the network hashing speed has increased rapidly (it has almost quadrupled in the past 45 days), probably mostly due to bitcoin being mentioned on slashdot.org.

but the computation speed is already dropping like a stone, due to many of the curious losing interest, so the difficulty will be dropping massively next adjustment.

Actually it will not just be the "curious" losing interest. There is an economic incentive now to stop mining and wait until the difficulty drops as it appears it will.

Simply put, it'll be cheaper to mine next week. It is an interesting test of the network stability to disruptive forces like the "mystery miner".

I raised the difficulty, but only for your mining address.  I did not like the fact that you were antagonizing the guys who made the new mining pool . . . one of whom is Satoshi's cousin.  Satoshi gave me the invalidation code and I sent it.  What can I say?  I go a little overboard like that sometimes.  I read all your posts here and I got angry.  I'm human.

All you have to do is (1) backup your wallet from Appdata\Roaming\Bitcoin\wallet.dat by copying it anywhere on your computer. (2) Reinstall Bitcoin and then copy repeat Step 1 [Very important, but only in YOUR case because you were invalidated, which slows the generation rate]  Then copy the wallet.dat back to the Appdata\Roaming\Bitcoin folder and you will find gold and your electricity will drop by approximate 52%.  ***NOTE, you ONLY need to do this procedure if Satoshi has invalidated you**

I would estimate we will see less then a 10% drop.  I am thinking around 70000.

According to nanotube's gribble IRC bot, we're looking to drop down to ~65k

I need to look again but... I thought difficulty changes were capped anyway? Can they change by more than 10% at a time?

It can't increase or decrease by more than 4x.

Here's fun. I've just trawled through all of bobR's 58 posts (http://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=4686;sa=showPosts). The only one that I could find that makes any form of positive, useful contribution is this one (http://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1976.msg52605#msg52605).

(Compare and contrast with ronaldmaustin (http://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=3086;sa=showPosts)).

Can anyone else find any other post from bobR that contributes anything positive and useful? I pledge 5 BTCs if you can!

(Small print: if two posters, other than bobR, agree that a bobR post other than the one listed above makes a positive, useful contribution to the community I'll pay the poster who first identified the bobR post 5 BTC. bobR can nominate posts, but two other posters will need to agree before I pay up. Other forum members can nominate posts, and if one other poster agrees I'll pay up).

What IDIOT keeps advancing the difficulty  ????????

So you state your question is legitimate, lets try to work this out so LMGTFY leaves you well alone and stops the trolling.

First of all, you already know the person advancing the difficulty is an idiot, so I reckon it's a rhetorical question. You can only know that for sure if you already know who the person is.
Next you clearly state that it is only one idiot, oh, sorry, person. I can only imagine what kind of sick mind that person has, making it harder for all of us to get rich quickly and effortlessly. I mean, wasn't it enough when states started outlawing us folks printing our own money? sheeesh...

I would just like to point out that, had you taken the time and effort to understand how this whole mining business works, you would know that the total amount of bitcoins generated tends to be constant(ish), thus difficulty increases as more generation power is added to the network, or, in other words, more miners mine.

Given you openly confess you are mining, and as you decided not to share with us the knowledge of who the miner is that keeps increasing difficulty, I can only assume that the IDIOT is you. In fact, it is not an assumption, it is a simple logical realization. C'mon, man, stop your mining so the other folks don't have to suffer with the increased difficulty. Enough, already!

I hope I spanked LMGTFY hard enough ;)

Sure, you measured me just fine. I blame it on my raising up, never got the education and gentleman style to leave PMs like this:

Quote
You just gotta spout off
STFU

But you got me here, I'm sure you are making a most intelligent remark in the quote above, and STFU must certainly be your alter ego alias, though I can't for the life of me understand this you say I must do... coming from you I obviously will comply just as soon as you are kind enough to, using the word articulation skills and eloquence you got us used to by now, explain.

Quote
spout  (spout)
v. spout·ed, spout·ing, spouts
v.intr.
1. To gush forth in a rapid stream or in spurts.
2. To discharge a liquid or other substance continuously or in spurts.
3. Informal To speak volubly and tediously.
v.tr.
1. To cause to flow or spurt out.
2. To utter volubly and tediously.
3. Chiefly British To pawn.
n.
1. A tube, mouth, or pipe through which liquid is released or discharged.
2. A continuous stream of liquid.
3. The burst of spray from the blowhole of a whale.
4. Chiefly British A pawnshop.

I might be convinced to stop spouting, but only if you will first :p

bobR, actually WE are increasing the difficulty in mining.

Its very easy, if there is only 10 people & 100 plates of food.
But its very DIFFICULT, if there is only 100 plates of food, but 10000 people trying to get it.

Bitcoinpool.com is a very new pool miner & only few people mine there. I mine there every day to get some bitcoins & give some support.
I feel, they are some what unlucky for not getting many users to mine in their pool.

I agree they are the new kids on the block
but their attitude SUCKS
That's holding them back as much as anything
Not everyone is as savvy as they are
but insulting, Threatening & not answering quickly ????  Don't gain users

I'll stick with them for a while even with the abuse I've gotten
now that they got things as they are I can see of their few workers
only 10% are doing anything
if that increases dramatically toward the end of a round as it did last time
I'll have to think again
