Title: How to prevent this spammy service? community feedback
Post by: mdayonliner on June 23, 2018, 03:12:37 PM
Archive (http://archive.is/Tu7eI)
User zainhaider (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=2189075) just created a topic claiming s/he will do the following...

I will create bitcointalk accounts for you

Junior Member Account with 30+ activities and posts

Account with 70+ activities and posts

Account with 120+ activities and posts

✓ I will create a real and verified account for you
✓ Provide you email and password of bitcointalk account and associated account after completing the order
 ✓ 100% client satisfaction

Also they have created a fiverr (https://www.fiverr.com/zainhaider484/create-bitcointalk-accounts-for-you?arrived_from_manage_gigs=true&display_share=true) service for this too.

These are the activities are the root of all spam. The user will ( or already have alt accounts and spamming the forum ) definitely keep spam the forum with nonsense posts or using spambots for nonsense posting to make the account looks like they are promising.

How do we can prevent it from the root level?
Also, can I report those kind of topics to the moderator?

PS: Tagging the user for the time being after posting the topic.

Some other clever-clogs answered in that thread asking for the OP to raise the stakes ...:

no one will buy jr. member account from you because jr. member account is free and can reach to jr. member.  but if you want sell sr member a nd Hero member so i can buy it from you.
yaar jis mulk sy tum ho ossi mulk sy my bee hu aghar high ranked account hy tu batha do
I guess that the offerer can see himself grooming accounts right up to the moment the account requires merit to go any further. Merit at least sets a barrier there.

Merit at least sets a barrier there.
It does actually and thanks to the merit system. The business for these types of people are getting harder and harder.

It's seems clear spammy activity. I think we can report such as topic. As well as I have seen vod already tag him. Since starting I am fighting against spammer. Every one should make sound against spammer. Then may be we can reduce it.

LOL this is a total abuse of the forum rules. He/she is indirectly or directly trying to keep spamming the forum with new accounts every now and then. And the buyers will as well continue from where he stopped. Why buy an account at the first place because of numbers of activities and posts count? Is the forum not meant to be an educative platform? This should be looked into

I could provide a site for these accounts to be listed privately. Merit sources could then check the list before awarding any merits. This assumes that the accounts can be detected.

I will be gladly doing the detecting/listing job (if needed).

So what format should I use.

Table-wise? I have a html/php theme bought from themeforest which is an admin panel theme. I will update this post once I find it. Give me few mins.

We might be able to use open biblio - It lets you search for books by number or title

I'm in the van at the moment, so I'll have a look tomorrow. Maybe I'll install it for a test as well.

Damn! I can not find the themes I have bought from themeforest. I had more than 10 themes from themeforest. Nothing on their dashboard as well. I see they have changed the entire interface. Not, sure what to do.  I hope somewhere I have a backup.

Ok mate no problem. Let me know once you are ready.

It CV?
I am sorry I did not get it.

By the way found the theme  ;D

Here is the preview of the theme: http://psd2allconversion.com/templates/themeforest/html/horizon/html/default/light-sidebar/index.html

I have both php and html version. Problem is, we will need a database to maintain. I think going with the CMS will be better idea.

However, have all of these (below) themes. May be we can find a good one from here. These are WordPress thought or we can go with the one you were saying earlier.

We can't (unfortunately).

No (it's not against the forum rules).

It does actually and thanks to the merit system. The business for these types of people are getting harder and harder.
Would be nice to see/have merit requirements for Jr. members as well (then we'll see Newbie accounts for sale :D).

I think we can report such as topic.
If you meant to use the"Report to moderator" function, then "NO":

18. Having multiple accounts and account sales are allowed, but account sales are discouraged.

Why buy an account at the first place because of numbers of activities and posts count?
I guess it's some sort of a marketing gimmick.

Is the forum not meant to be an educative platform?
It used to but majority of the newcomers, are here for the wrong reason.

I could provide a site for these accounts to be listed privately. Merit sources could then check the list before awarding any merits. This assumes that the accounts can be detected.
That's the issue. In 99% of the cases, they remain undetected.

I can't use the package I weanted to - it requires php5, and I'm on 7 for the hosting account. I can't change it, as that will mess up my other instllations. I've installed Senayan library management software, and it looks as if I may be able to use that. I'll try to customise it this morning, It allows for a public search by reference or title ie. account number or name. It allows for categories, so I could list accounts as -

- Known alts
- Merit abusers
- Bought account
- Possible grooming account
- Account farmer

Using a variety of categories could help avoid making false accusations until we have definite proof of an abuse.

It looks as if Senayan is over complicated. It will do the job, but there are about 40 fields associated with each account.
it has a publisher feature, and this would allow the alt to be linked to the main account

I'm thinking of using a project management system now. This one looks possible - http://qdpm.net/
I'd be grateful for comments about it's suitability.

No (it's not against the forum rules).
However, I did yesterday. Still I can see the status is unhandled meaning mods still did not noticed it. Before I had 6 unhandled cases. It will be interesting for me to see the stand of the mods.

- No doubt LOL. Now-a-days the standard for merit is fairly high (Completely agree. Ref: pugman or LoyceV or Jet Cash, memory is not serving well  :P ) unless anything unusual happen (any kind of abusing).

I guess it's some sort of a marketing gimmick.
- Most probably, bounty/ANN bumping kind of stuffs.

I have no problem with handling any kind of CMS. It may take few hours for me to get myself familiarise with the entire new interface (if it actually is) but after a while I will be ok. I consider myself fairly tech savvy.

It seems ok for the version you are on (7) for your server.

PHP version >= 5.4
MySQL: 5.0 or newer, InnoDB storage engine
PDO drivers:  mysql

qdPM is a PHP5 tool relying on the symfony framework version 1.4. The framework files are bundled with the application, so you don’t need to install symfony before installing qdPM.

I'm changing tack now. I think a  genealogical data analysis program might be better. Given the structure of some of the alt names, this could help to group them.

I've sent you a new one as i deleted the old one - sorry

I can re-install if you think it is worth it, but it didn't look relevant to me in the end

The current one is also looking not relevant. Why not we start with a Google Spreadsheet for now, after all we need easy data entry and a easily readable table.

Demo: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1AuOiFcFoJ-ZGxJXLrff4msQ7Mzg6yZ-TE4cKYQkkops/edit?usp=sharing

I will send you the editable link in PM

I liked the way you could build a family tree based on names and a couple of other factors. There are too many vriables though, and I wondered if I could disable most of them. It looked s if you could include merit activity as well.

If so then I may need some how to do instructions from you. The whole interface is going over my head  ;D

By the way did you see the demo spreadsheet yet. We can improvise it (formatting and stuffs) if we decide working on the spreadsheet.

I'm going to give up on the cms hunt.

I might use it as a project to teach myself python or similar.

Anyway I will try to come up with a solution with the spreadsheet. I hope it will work.

If anyone can suggest a suitable CMS, then I'm happy to host it.
