Title: [GRC] Gridcoin Marketing and Strategy
Post by: anonerd on February 06, 2014, 09:59:25 PM
Promoting Gridcoin (http://www.gridcoin.us) - Mining for Scientific Progress
(In case you haven't read about it yet, feel lucky to meet the next big thing)

Quote
LATEST News from the community:
We are ready to launch Gridcoin-Research in Oktober!
The main discussion board is located at CCT. Therefore, there was little to be heard on BCT.
Development efforts were coordinated at https://cryptocointalk.com/forum/464-gridcoin-grc/

What is the new client about:

Gridcoin benefits society and medical research by redirecting the massive computational force of the global hashing network to scientific programs like cancer research, Alzheimer's, AIDS and Malaria countermeasures. Desktop computers help in distributed tasks that progress science at Universities (e.g. protein folding). No special mining equipment is needed, computing tasks are too general for ASICs, so the currency stays decentralized!
By introducing Proof-of-Research, we are able to direct nearly all of the available processing power to advance science. Only a small overhead is necessary to secure network logistics. Which is by design the smallest footprint possible, as our network security model is improving on industry leading Proof-of-Stake implementations already being energy efficient. Proof-of-Research factors in mandatory BOINC participation for all clients in a cryptographically strong way. All of this is open source, go look into it!

Let's collect the growing efforts to promote Gridcoin and add to it.
This is a structured approach to let everyone see where his help is currently needed the most.
Maybe you offer a service on your own? - Please feel encouraged to mention it below.
Each promotion or point of acceptance would love to have a maintainer and progress-information.

I will update the OP with all ideas to finally get GRC connect all those ppl's heads!

For POR you need coins in your account that are "staked". This is not like POW where you find blocks with actual hashing!! You either need to convert old GRC classic to new POR GRC or you have to wait till the around the 20th of October when the POR GRC starts trading on the exchanges and get some POR GRC  so you can start staking in your wallet!! IF you have no coins right now in your POR wallet you will not receive anything!! You need to have coins in your POR wallet!!

This wasn't clear to me as well. The wallet says "boinc mining" and it's not true.
Also it's a pity I have compiled, installed, worked on it and boinc-end and I'll not get anything for days, cause I need to have stake power for a coin which currently I can't buy.
Not everybody's been following the coin for months.
I've gotten in a couple weeks ago and read a lot of docs, but I didn't notice that for POR I need POS, and it seems I'm not the only one.
To be an early adopter is never easy :)

Before we start on any of that we have to wait for the voting of the new Logo and then we can go from there. Cryptsy and Crypto-Trade have been sent many messages and they are fully aware of Gridcoin. They will list it when they decide to, so there is nothing to be done there!

at least I could help promote the logo competition with my link.
my point is more like every additional thread on GRC helps the cause.
Maybe not everyone has the time to stay up to date with the ongoing campaigns, so I decided to keep track and list them.

Looks like a good start.  I agree with Traderman that most of this needs to wait until we get the logo (which is soon!).  But we do not have to wait to get the list going!
Maybe add a section on things that can be done (services you can buy) with your gridcoins.  A section on any Gridcoin promotions (links to threads of giveaways etc).  A section on advertising.  I am saving up  "Daily Bitcoins advertising credits" from here (http://dailybitcoins.org/index.php?aff=f8f44aa4cccfcc50116753c724b8f551) so that I can run some ads when we are ready.  You should also cross post this to https://cryptocointalk.com/forum/464-gridcoin-grc/ so that it hits the crypto folks as well.

All promotion is good.  Maybe you (and other Gridcoiners) can add;

"Add some science to your mining!  GRIDCOIN (http://www.gridcoin.us/)"

to your profile here so that every post you make is a small advert for Gridcoin

certainly, thanks for your appreciation!
as the list gets longer we will introduce categories for sure.
In fact, I would ask each keen participant to open up a new thread with their promotional idea to have it worked out there. To keep this readable we can simply maintain a list of efforts and link to their threads and maintainers.
cross-linkage to cryptocointalk will be done after some consolidation.
do you care to be enrolled in here as the first ad-campaign? :)

Yep - put me down in the "ad" department.  Not sure how much I can do - and I will need help coming up with a great ad to place.  I figured I would start a topic in the threads after we get the logo/coin design.
Also - very first line in this OP should be the link to the coin home page (http://www.gridcoin.us/) so that anyone seeing this and curious will know right away where to go. ;)

Also, to everyone asking where to advertise that you accept GRC for goods and/or services, you will want to post that on the "Marketplace" board under the "goods" or "services" sub-boards.

If you accept GRC for goods: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?board=51.0
If you accept GRC for services: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?board=52.0
This! and if you would like your offer to be referenced for the community to see, link here.

Just writing down my thought's, maybe it's helpfull in finding a strategy how to go further,

- It would be very good to speed up the development, considered actions to be taken can be,

 1) Get a moderator for the forums, main responsabilities are,
       - Filtering messages and report important issues to the dev and report back.
       - Give a reply to the questions that the community could not answer
       - etc.

Main goal is to get the dev. focused on the project, he should not get any negative energy from the forum, my advice to him would be do not spent any time on the forum, just rely on the moderators.

 2) Get some crowdfunding to help the dev. to pay for the expenses he has to make,

     - Use the Beacon GRC adress for spendings in Gridcoin, use it later to fund some kind of Gridcoin foundation
     - Ask for money on the landingpage off www.gridcoin.us to support the development, BTC, GRC, etc.
     - Let's raise a small amount of money to design a nice landingpage (www.99designs.de), we need a volunteer who has experience in branding a product, he can address all the needed marketing (the dev. should have his focus on the program).

3) Assign a team for this project, each member should have his focus on certain parts, the dev. can not do everything on his own.

hey groten, thanks for the bunch of inspiration!
To wrap it up, your suggestions as I understood lead us to the following projects:

1) Write reports on community activity regularly for the dev
<< devs could then decide whether this aggregation suffices their needs. can be started right away.

2a) Fund and Constitute a Gridcoin foundation
<< long-term goal, but really this is where we should be heading, even doge has a foundation

2b) work out a brand
<< this ought to follow the logo specification and is a mid-term goal, imho

3) assign a team
<< the community wont take the lead here, Rob has a small team already, afaik.
some community members like aysyr work closely with them.
Therefore, i'd suggest we bring up a pool of help offers from members, which dev board can assign subtasks to.

your ideas would definitely boost this network!
are you fine with the projects i concluded?
I'd like to enlist them alongside your nickname, if you agree.
Otherwise they get lost in the stream.

Thanks for the help!

I agree with the projects you listed. My main concern is that Gridcoin needs a visible team and some kind of Gridcoin foundation. It should be targeted as a bussiness with some very clear strategies and goals, therefore it needs a structured team with members who have all a clear target, responsability and focus, and preferably also the resources (that why I would be happy to fund this project).

That will help in maintaining and assigning the project tasks. Preferably Gridcoin should have their own forum on www.gridcoin.us, with subsections (structure) for all the things that need to be done/addressed, this makes it more visable and easier for the community to help on his or her own specialisation.

I agree that Rob probably already has a team and that he has the lead, I would like to see them taking soon some next steps and spread the giant workload. This is a fantastic project and can be very succesfull if you have a great team around you with brilliant guys or girls. And I speak for myself that I know how difficult it is to delegate and share, smart guys have the attitude to do everything by their own cos no one can do better (no offense to Rob btw).

No problem, thanks for the OP edit. I'm pretty tied up with my day job and other projects right now. I would love to more to help Gridcoin along besides post links for exchange support and what not, that's about all I have time for at the moment tho. Hopefully my schedule will open up enough sooner or later and I'll be able to do more for the GRC community!

Hi guys,

Just wanted to let you know.

Yesterday I sent e-mails to most of the major exchanges to add us and I think I have some good news for you.
Rob I hope you don't mind me taking this step, but I know you're super busy and wanted to help(also I included contact@gridcoin.us so they can contact you directly)

Overall the feedback on Gridcoin is very positive and exchanges are starting to see the value it's bringing to cryptocurrencies.

Swisscex really likes us and here's our new coin vote post, so please go there and support adding us.
https://swisscex.freshdesk.com/support/discussions/topics/1000010995 (https://swisscex.freshdesk.com/support/discussions/topics/1000010995)

Also I have received reply from Cryptsy that they really like Gridcoin and have moved it for review of the development team.
I started a new feature request for Gridcoin there too so please go there, vote and support.
https://cryptsy.freshdesk.com/support/discussions/topics/4000003275 (https://cryptsy.freshdesk.com/support/discussions/topics/4000003275)

edit: Also we are up for a voting at Nexxuscorp
https://features.nexxuscorp.com/coins (https://features.nexxuscorp.com/coins)

I'll let you know as soon as I have some more news.
Go to the sites, vote, show the great support this coin has from its community and we'll go really big! :)

Have a great day,
Andrew.

These two are the big ones!
Show your support, vote, send messages, spend some BTCs on it. If we get to one of these exchanges our market cap is going to skyrocket!

BTC38.com - One of the biggest exchanges in Asia

It would be nice to think that the crypto community would pour its hash into helping solve some of the wordls toughest computation problem. If crypto finds a cure for cancer (or helps) its media attention may go up a "little"  :)

Also, new site where Gridcoin is listed:

It's simmilar to coinmarketcap, shows marketcaps of cryptos and crypto stocks.
They can be nicely sorted by marketcap or by % change wich I think is a good feature.

If we all get active on the subreddit we can really start reaching out to people.
Once we get 200 suscribers, we can get added to /r/cryptocurrency - a subreddit with 50k suscribers; this will definetley improve our numbers!

Once the cpu mining features have returned i think that would be wise.
Doing so before then could just publicize a rough patch in development.

I've reached out to /r/einsteinium since they're a 'scientific' cryptocurrency and have got them to add us on their sidebar.

great move! :)

There is no such thing as bad publicity.  I think this is an opportunity to prove that development is moving forward and that new features and better security are always on the way.  Promotion is the only way to adoption and I am more than willing to help.  Transparency is lacking in the crypto space and investors love transparency.  Gridcoin is a great idea and that has had some growing pains because it is something different.  Most litecoin knockoffs just change a few lines of code and many don't even bother to make a custom wallet, Gridcoin is different and these improvements take time.  Miners and investors will get behind something if they know it has future plans and development.  Its like getting behind a startup, they may be losing money but if they have an idea that could change the world and they promote that idea investors line up around the block.

Very good points. Gridcoin is a very complicated project and I am surprised at how much it has grown and how much work we have put down so far on the Boinc network. Imagine if the rest of the crypto community gets on-board we will make international headline news in no time.

I think we need to ask coindesk to do an article on Gridcoin.

posted GRC summary information to http://coinwiki.info/en/Gridcoin

curecoin has a running testnet, which seems about to go public.
Most participants there haven't even haerd of Gridcoin yet.

Energy efficient Gridcoin has broken records in the few days since its major release.
The power it has put to BOINC distributed research net has quadrupled since. Worldposition jumped from #110 to #60. Each day taking another few places (http://boincstats.com/en/stats/-1/team/detail/118094994/charts)!

Better take your seat :)

New p2pool for Gridcoin, still on testnet only for now, but so far looks like everything is working. This will be the first method of mining GRC that will be share based on Boinc RAC (recent average credit). So you won't have to solve whole blocks anymore, now you get paid just like any other scrypt coin pool.

share-based science-pool coming!

Gridcoin surpasses 500,000,000 BOINC credits!

Amazing!

Gridcoin is a perfect example of coin that delivers on its promises. 500,000,000 million is a very impressive number.

When GRC makes it to the top 10 BOINC contributors, it will get a lot of media attention and influx of new miners.

I encourage everyone to start mining ASAP while the difficulty is still low.

Well put, look @ Bittrex now. Only new coins for a profit, then they delist them a week later. Would have to say the exchanges in the past that took of with everyones coins/money, were scams behind our back & Bittrex is SCAMMING everyone right in front of us ??? Knowing for sure that they are creating a % of all the new coins launching everyday (controlling bots on the exchange, as well as letting people trade with them self to gain volume & PnD), greed & more greed will catch up with them sooner or later!

Bittrex is chasing the quick buck. No care for the future. No care for cryptocurrencies. Once they have squeezed every penny out of the altcoin scene, they will disappear into the sunset leaving cryptoland a wasteland.

They could vindicate themselves by showcasing Gridcoin(and several others) for what it does and trying to take some moral high ground for a change.

News from the community:

Once PoR is released, and the wallet is out, it should be no problem. GRC has already proven itself and the concept is great.

Our new blockchain turns Gridcoin into the single most efficient beneficial cryptocurrency on earth (98% effective research).
Yet, things are usually more complicated than this statement suggests.
So getting started is still quite tedious. The new client has removed many obstacles but still need you to hold a small balance
to start computing on Proof-of-Research to help Science.
One way to get coins, is buying on c-cex.com or swisscex.com.
In addition, we came up with a free 20 GRC starter as promotional campaign at http://uscore.net

If you are interested in Gridcoin, we need your help!
Please cast your vote on reddit:

"We’re Team Koinify: Help us choose the next crypto / dApp / open sourced project you’d like to see community crowdfunded!

    Hey /r/Bitcoin,

Team [Koinify](https://www.koinify.com/) here. We’re a marketplace for decentralized applications (dApps), running crowdfunding campaigns to help fund dApp projects.

    -------------------------

As a giveback to the community, we’d like to run a donation-based, zero-fee crowdfunding campaign for an open-sourced crypto project to help with their exposure and funding. We’re now crowdsourcing the most attractive and impactful project in the ecosystem.

This crowdfunding campaign will have no fee, but still vest on our milestone based fund release structure, such that developer will have fully aligned incentives to deliver after the crowdfunding ends. We want to leverage our connections and influence for the greater good by helping an early stage project emerge from the shadows. It will be 100% donation driven, with all the money going directly to the team. Koinify will do its customary and expected due diligence on the team and the project, vetting and ensuring they are worthy of the campaign.

    -------------------------

What do you see as one of the most potentially disruptive areas/projects? Is it crypto infrastructure, is it a dApp, or is it an open sourced protocol? What project do you think will help push the crypto community forward as a whole?

Let us know in the comments below by telling us which project or team you’d like to see a crowdfunding campaign for, and why you believe they should be picked for the crowdfunding campaign. The raised BTC goal and time constraints will depend upon the project that is chosen by the community."

We will leave this thread open for 48 hours. After 48 hours, we will count the number of comments / votes. Let us know, and we can get this running as soon as possible.

    -------------------------

Examples: BitMesh, DarkWallet, BitSquare, FactomLinux, etc. Projects that haven’t received VC funding, are open sourced, and that would help our community and ecosystem grow stronger.

    http://www.reddit.com/r/Bitcoin/comments/2vkay6/were_team_koinify_help_us_choose_the_next_crypto/

Koinify is a large player: http://www.coindesk.com/koinify-1-million-smart-corporation-crowdfunding/
Getting featured would beam us to frontpages of all news channels in crypto, simply by earning their reddit vote.

they use a crowdfunding model that looks like handing tokens to newcomers so everyone can buy a share as they like.
Besides, they work closely together with project developers to support marketing of future milestones.
Thereby, a lot of interested folks could enter a position to get started with Gridcoin.

PICISI will be a crowdfunding website that accepts fiat and cryptocurrency.

It will be a very powerful vehicle for introducing CC to the broader world.  It will enable many different coin communities to get their respective coins lots of exposure
and use.  Utility is the highest function for a currency, with PICISI Organizers and Donors are gently immersed in a world where CC has meaningful and practical
financial value.   At PICISI CC gets a lot of attention.

When visitors come to the site to raise funds for things that interest them they will have the opportunity to collect fiat as well as CC.  There are two host currencies, one for fiat and one for CC.   The Organizer has three options: a) accept sponsorship, b) select from list of CCs, or c) PICISI coin (default).  If they select sponsorship they will actually get paid because of that selection.   That's a great way to introduce CC to someone.   As Host CC sponsor all CC donations (regardless of type) are immediately converted to your currency and remain in that currency until spent or for the duration of the campaign.  The Organizer has the opportunity to spend CC donations with a campaign contractor(s) who help Organizers create, develop, and/or promote their campaign.  Thereby having your currency 'respent'.

In addition to Host CC, there are 4 other sponsorship opportunities.

With regard to Gridcoin, your coin has a focus on Science and innovation so you will probably do well to sponsor campaigns in that area of the site.

For now, I'm specifically looking for people to endorse the PICISI plan -- tell me that you like the plan;  and I am also looking for sponsors to help me start and develop the site.
Of course I will display signage for supportive sponsors.

General sponsorship is wide open, donate any amount; your donation amount will determine where Gridcoin's name and logo appear on the sponsorship list.   Early sponsors at any level will likely get lots of long term attention.   Currently PICISI has 3 sponsors (Armis, Crypto Cloud Hosting, and The Einsteinium News); the current high donation equivalent is 100 USD, and low equivalent is 25 USD.  Your Gridcoin donation will be immediately converted to establish an USD equivalent value, the Gridcoin name and logo will be listed accordingly.

As you know coin community sponsorship will play a major role in the day-to-day operation of the site, your coin's sponsorship will likely inspire other coins to consider sponsorship too.  Please direct your Gridcoin donations to this address: G4TNd2xJU9WeNvPfbdzdCTQ5goNBeRSYBe and post the TX ID for proper association.

After which we can share the endorsement and sponsorship announcement here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=972973.0

The top 8 - 10 sponsor logos will be featured on the home page as follows:

Because mining does not mean solving meaningless hashes but doing simulations for science and there is an incredible potential for commercial applications, which can use the basically free computing power of gridcoin's miners for useful computations (eg. machine learning, data processing, rendering,....)

Now with GRC Classic retiring in only 16 days, we will have the emission schedule off our backs and should give a propensity to appreciate easier!
We're going to need to issue an emergency bulletin in the next 4-5 days to tell everyone to BURN YOUR CLASSIC COINS before Classic becomes too cheap to solve new blocks and that will seize up the classic chain!
(If you perform a burn at the end of the schedule you may have to mine classic just to get it to confirm)

Thanks for your question the website is not ready for launch as of yet, it will be located at www.PICISI.com; as for twitter, and other social media here is that info:

e-mail: picisiproject@hotmail.com
Twitter: https://twitter.com/PICISIproject

Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/pages/Picisi/1580118548922587

Djnocide (PICISI Assistant Director) handles all of the social media accounts including the bitcointalk PICISI account.

Before the website is built I am 'setting the structural foundation', vocalizing my vision and strategy for PICISI though various article.  The 'project prep' also involves reaching specific prelaunch goals to insure stable and reliable growth after launch.

I've ordered a conceptual rendering of what I want the site to look like, here is the thread: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=988062.0;all  here is the product end result: https://i.imgur.com/RCUTLiV.jpg  The contractor did his best however the end result was not satisfactory.   Batesresearch volunteered to redo the PSD, that is what I was referring to in our PM.

Once a satisfactory PSD goes up, we will move some of the primary emphasis from structural development to community development.  We need more admins, we need more community members, and we need more community participation.  Currently we have a community of 30 people which is more than anticipated at this point, however engagement is far less than I expected.  The PSD should inspire more participation.

Once the final launch prerequisites are accomplished, a formal beginning will start -- creation of a PICISI ANN thread.  The site should be up within days of the announcement.   If the community is organized and engaged we will have an exchange in place shortly thereafter.

Given the specific launch prerequisites we will have a minimum of 8 CF campaigns, given the way the program works each campaign will enjoy some sponsorship, all campaigns will see massive promotion from: organizers, contractors, admins and/or engaged community.  Depending on how reasonable organizers are with their goals, we should have lots of success, of course my hope is for 100% inaugural campaign success.

Dear PICISI sponsor,

For a limited time (ends thursday ) PICISI is offering each PICISI sponsor a FREE article about their entity in relation to PICISI.

Please note that the story need not relate directly to crowdfunding, or cryptocurrency, the most important factor is an informative and compelling story, we will figure out how to include PICISI, Pi, and/or other essentials.

I invite you to take advantage of the opportunity to put your entity, you, or someone else related to your entity in the spotlight.

I still think the best kind of marketing is the one where you can get people that are actually interested in the idea of Gridcoin itself to join. There are a lot of people out there who are already into BOINC and for them joining GRC is a win-win: Thy continue to do what they do anyway and get cpryto-currency additionally.

That also explains the steady growth of GRC compared to other pump&dum coins.

Examples for marketing of this kind are:

there were a lot of things happening:

Press Release: PiGrid - get rewarded for helping research projects at home

Researchers already have technologies that can help in the fight against climate change and diseases.
Yet, those technologies often depend on large computational ressources for simulation and validation.
Now, a combination of innovations allows to incentivize progress.

In citizen science projects, each individual can volunteer to help.
By devoting spare computing time to research groups everyone could "recycle" idle working time of any computing device for a good cause.
BOINC[1] is a scientific network that has a paramount solution to manage the needed logistics:
it distributes small work units to participating computers for calculation and collects their results later while maintaining scalability.
On top of that, another innovation, Gridcoin[2], is able to reward participation in the BOINC network.
Gridcoin uses a blockchain algorithm to achieve fast and secure payments in a global, energy-efficient network.
While Bitcoin was consuming more than 15 Million US-Dollar in electricity each day[3], Gridcoin is able to strip energy waste and
dedicate 98% of globally networked ressources to scientific tasks.
This became possible by utilizing self-organizing properties of Bitcoin, asymmetric cryptography of Blackcoin[4] and
Gridcoins advanced blockchain concepts in "proof-of-research".

Still, a remaining problem is user adoption. The setup of Gridcoin combined with BOINC is time consuming and tricky.
This bars novices from easy access. In order to provide end users with a plug-n-play solution, PiGrid[5] has developed open-source software
that works out of the box and takes care of all related configurations and updates.
PiGrid can be used on existing hardware or bundled with pre-installed systems.
A graphical user interface allows choice of research projects via drag-and-drop, monitoring of progress and tracking rewards in Gridcoin.
The first generation of PiGrid solutions will be crowdfunded in this Kickstarter: http://pigrid.com/kickstarter

We'd be glad to hear whether you consider to mention PiGrid in any news coverage.
In case of specific questions, we are happy to answer your mail to press@pigrid.com.
Thank you for your time!
